Description

An interplanetary mission entangles the lives of two brothers separated across worlds in a web of ancient grudges and fallen kingdoms.

“One wields fear…”

Among the skyscrapers of Chicago, Killian fancies himself a master of persuasion. With a touch and a glance, he’s able to bend the strongest of wills; terrify the toughest of thugs—until he finds himself on the run from both mobsters and the Feds alike.

When his escape lands him in the grasp of “the Enchantress”, he faces an unusual commission to another world and a reward he cannot refuse—to be rid of the shadows plaguing his nights. But will the cost be greater than he can bear?

“…the other desire.”

Beneath a foreign sun, Prince Aurelius investigates a strange substance preying on untapped desires, linked to various murders and vanishings throughout the Grand Chronikian Empire. As his rakish brother’s Ascension Ceremony draws near, unrest spreads and Aurelius’s chance to seize the title of Crown Prince for himself drifts further away.

When schemes disguise as fate, will blood prove thicker than a plot simmered for over a century?

This book has everything you could ever expect from an epic fantasy - excellent worldbuilding, fascinating lore, intricate mysteries, interconnected plotlines, lovable characters, and relatable themes of family and duty. BUT WAIT! There’s more! Palace intrigues, exciting heists, shady conspiracies, automatons and airships, forensics and crime investigation, blood magic, sea monsters and dragons! All of the above create a deliciously unique experience that effortlessly mixes the magic of fantasy, the technology of steampunk, and the mystery of noir, with a rich character-driven narrative.
The story revolves around two main plotlines, one about a charming prince bound to his duty, investigating a string of crimes occurring in his empire, the other about a roguish criminal from Earth with a heart of gold and a mysterious past. I’m not gonna spoil how the plotlines (and the two different worlds) converge, but the buildup is absolutely worthy of the eventual payoff. The author weaves the different threads of plot and mysteries so eloquently, and despite the significant length of the book, it never feels slow or boring. Every chapter feels like a mini arc in itself, focusing on a specific POV, rich in prose and worldbuilding, satisfying as a character-driven narrative, and continuously answering previously floated questions while simultaneously bringing forth new mysteries.
The style is immaculate, the grammar flawless, but the story and characters are the real stars here. There are a lot of side characters, some with more prominent roles than others, but all are memorable and complex (and often downright lovable).
What the author has written here is something really special and I’ve enjoyed every moment of it. Impossible to put down, so beautifully written and imagined, and with so many surprises and twists! You will gasp, you will laugh, and you will hold your breath with these characters who will burrow themselves into your soul. You just have to open your heart and di

Gilded Bloodlines is, and continues to be, a very enjoyable read. Right from the start, you're thrown into two very distinct yet similarly intriguing worlds. I love stories that unfold like puzzles, and the dual-reality premise here isn't just a gimmick; it's essential to the story's layered intrigue and steadily rising tension, which keeps me eager to read more. The gritty, grounded realism of organised crime pairs surprisingly well with the grand mysticism and political manoeuvring of the magical. Killian and Astraea are exactly my kind of characters: morally grey, sharp, and just the right amount of spunky! If you're a fan of noir fantasy, Gilded Bloodlines should definitely be on your follow list!

... which fulfils perfectly each and every promise.
This journey has started rather unpretentiously on my part, yet I found myself swallowed inside an intricate, challenging, impressive piece of art.
Every word used in this book has been meticulously picked and carefully placed upon poetically-filed sentences. This author's style is so very vivid, I could, without a doubt, recognize it between a hundredth after reading sixty-one chapters. Her voice sound unique, crafted for years, woven in a beautiful silk of literature I've rarely stumbled upon on Royal Road, and even published books. Her careful threading of terms is what grasped my attention, but the story and the characters are the ones that have made me stayed until the end.
    STORY:
You might want to keep a note on the side, to avoid missing some important information. Imagine multiple lines either following or crossing each other, for several chapters, until they finally merged and form a singular one, as thick as the number of characters, plots and sub-plots existing. Not a single chapter needing to be cut out of the main story, not a single moment of boredom, all of it designed and built to the tiniest of detail. As much as I would want to pour out all of my excitement and eagerness over the subject, diving in the intricacies would give up much of the suspense. But, suspense, there is. Investigations, treason, revelations, gut-wrenching, mind-blowing, head-twisting intrigues that will not only make you want to read more and more each day, but will also stir the deep need of curiosity. The universe of the Apeiron Chronicles is more than grand, more than multifaceted, it is a flawless, impeccable world which definitely deserves to be known.
    CHARACTERS:
I could spend literal days talking about Gilded Bloodlines' characters. They have supported the plot and sub-plots so well, the thin line between character-driven stories and plot-driven stories have blurred. Chapters alter point of views often, but each are alwa

(Note: I know the author from a shared writing group, which is how I discovered the story. However, none of my comments below are exaggerated. My feedback is genuine. The book really is amazing!)
    Overall
This was a fun read!! If you're into trad-pub style books, character-driven stories, witty exchanges, drama, and mystery, you're really going to enjoy Gilded Bloodlines. There's so much depth to the family drama. The found family aspect is also really moving. And the thriving friendship between Aurelius and his closest retainer is very charming.
The hooked me, and I tore through 1000 pages, all the way to the end, always eager to read more. So many twists!
    Story
There's so much going on, the book feels like it has everything. It's a blend of real and fantasy worlds, magic and machines. Heroes and villains wield fantastical abilities while grand vaults and the security of the realm are guarded by complex mechanical golems.
There are so many characters and so much intrigue and drama. Murder, politics, drugs, assassins, invasion, and plenty of friendship. The pace never slogs, always drawing you in to learn more, to see what happens next.
There are so many different threads woven throughout the story, and every time one mystery is unveiled, another one follows soon after. The world's secrets are unveiled like onion layers. It's amazing when all these different things begin to come together and build up to an explosive climax.
    Characters
The characters come alive, with each one receiving the perfect amount of page time per their importance in the story. The ambitious, well-loved golden prince takes the forefront in this arc, with plenty of noble and stalwart friends and allies supporting him as he fights to protect his nation's people. The gangster, Killian, takes a bit of a second seat this arc, but is a key player, incredibly amusing, and well set up to shine in future arcs.
The supporting cast are excellent, and all feel real and interesting. From dastardly assassins

I’ve been following Gilded Bloodlines for a while now, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. The story is written with love and packed with emotion. For readers who are looking for a comfier read, the prose is clear and easy to understand; those who are seeking a more challenging read can enjoy unraveling and guessing at the many exciting mysteries the story has to offer.
The settings introduced in the play are vast and colorful, the characters very much the same. From kings to pirates to an oblivious city boy, the story has so many characters from all different kinds of backgrounds to love and to root for. And while it’s easy to want to be attached to specific characters in a multi-POV story, every POV is enjoyable, and I always find myself excited to find out what happens next. The story and characters feel real and the things that they go through are honestly so, so fun that it almost feels like you’re going on an adventure with them.
Veski/Anna has done a fantastic job writing a story that is at times so exciting you can’t help but read the next chapter and at times so profound you really have to stop and enjoy the writing. I truly believe in this work, and I can’t wait to see where the story takes us. 😊
