- AtaxistraszaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.05 Stars for the keyboard warrior arc alone. I nearly died laughing. Won't try eating tacos again reading this smh.
A very enjoyable read, takes a break from many cultivation tropes and reinforces some others.
It truly feels and reads like a cultivation novel.
Highly reccomended for any fans of the genre who want a break from bad translations and endless young masters "courting death."
Edit: I just wanted to go back and update this after catching up to the author. My opinion and rating hasn't changed, but I wanted to highlight something that is hard to see only 40 chapters in. The characters, including our resident 'Old Monster' MC show genuine character growth, and leads to some really charming interactions between the cast.
At this point, all I can say to the negative reviewers is "You have eyes but cannot recognize Mt Tai!" - FortunaraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story
Bai Fanxian, an ancient alchemist master who awakens ten thousand years later in a modern cultivation world, d world now is much weaker than the one she remembers. D story doesn't rush into things but instead calmly shows how she builds a new life with the help of the Tang family and uses alchemy to prove who she is and what she is capable of
Style
D prose style is clear and easy to understand. It suits the genre of cultivation novels without being overly complicated mechanics. Descriptions are kept minimal rather than trying to be fancy. D writing keeps things moving without getting bogged down in unnecessary detail. You’re never left confused, but you’re also not drowning in exposition
Grammar
The sentence flow is pretty solid. There are some spots where phrases repeat or explanations go on a bit too long, but nothing that really pulls you out of the story
Character
Bai Fanxian comes across as a truly self-assured, and composed, without appearing silly. d story doesn't attempt to nerf her with fake weakness , so her impressive achievements seem natural
Overall
The focus stays on competence and watching power dynamics shift as people realize who they’re messing with. It’s a solid pick for anyone tired of protagonists who lose IQ points anytime d plot demands it
so If you like op protagonists, alchemy drama, and watching a weakened cultivation world react to someone who’s way beyond their level, this is worth checking out. - Guilherme VasconcellosRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’ve been reading novels here on RR for a few years and this is my first review cuz I’m lazy. Why did I decide to review this one?
This one is surely not the best written novel on royalroad, but I honestly dont understand the amount of bad reviews.
If you read the title and the plot of the novel and find it’s funny just go for it.
The novel is exactly what you would expect, nothing groundbreaking but it’s light, funny and not overly ambitious.
A much better novel than the reviews indicate. - JL2k5Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very entertaining power fantasy - give it a read! It has a super OP mc who confounds everyone around her with her power level, with enough obliviousness to make it entertaining! Aside from that, there isn’t too much plot, but she amasses followers and practices alchemy (as the summary describes)… Overall - hilarious and entertaining!
Edit:
After reading some of these other reviews, i feel that people on Royal Road don’t understand the concept of a person vs self conflict. In terms of the actual plot events:
This story, while not necessarily the most formal or conflicted, is more of a description of the MC finding herself and creating a life after being thrust into the future and learning all of her past memories and people are over/dead. - MilandaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So, this feels like it deserves more reviews. I figure I'll go into the good, the mid, and the bad of this story especially for someone considering picking it up.
The Good:
It very much gives a Xianxia meets Modern Wuxia vibe, our MC is a Jade Beauty Alchemist. From the get go we know she's silly overpowered and there are no real stakes for her, the author is upfront about it which makes it a pleasant slice of life with a bit of face slapping. It's got regular updates, cute side characters, and overall I'd recommend it to Wuxia enjoyers. The grammar gets better as time goes by which is nice as well, showing the authors growth and focus.
The Mid:
Most side characters are treated well because they're subservient or children. While they are fleshed out they're all pretty blatantly obsessed with MC. I'd honestly consider her a bit of a mary sue in the way she's always the center of attention if it wasn't overpowered MC Jade Beauty as a story basis. This is the entire premise, you know what you're getting into.
The Bad:
Honestly? The absolute worst offender in the story has to be the fact everything but the numbers screams Xianxia while the numbers chime in 'um actually, Wuxia'. The author really needs to rework that. Even without her actual age being young, everything about her time in the past screams Xianxia.
She's raised to a tier called 'semi immortal', and yet her lifespan is 300 years old and she accomplished everything she did in 25 years? Yet she also talks about losing herself developing a SINGLE elixir for 3 years, before 25? Yikes. Realistically she should be in her 50's at bare minimum just for her alchemy breakthroughs alone. - windcasterfuuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A very enjoyable read. Especially the chapter with the keyboard warrior Bai Fanxian that made me LOL. This novel takes a break from many cultivation tropes and reinforces some others.
Moreover this story is about a OP female lead with no romance that I really like. Bai Fanxian shows other that there are many paths of cultivations that women can be self-sufficient and powerful from her skills, as well as her being open-minded towards the current society that she finds herself in even if it takes time.
I hope that the author can continue to add more volumes in Kindle for this story as I really want to get the rest of the book volumes in my library. - xNullSkillzRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I am not really sure why there are so many negative reviews. the story is a very fun read.
Style wise, this story is very close to typical Xianxia or Wuxia stories. Including young masters and and all. But the story does innovate. With the modern setting and a female lead, it feels fresh compared to other stories of this genre.
In all I think this is a fun slice of life story in the Xianxia genre. Do not come into it, expecting a grand story and profound characters and you are good to go. - Readinglover7996Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story in general has been interesting and creative up until now, although the plots are sometimes a little bit too obvious or "scripted-feeling". The plot has been continued well throughout the story and is generally very consistent. The grammar is very good, with barely any mistakes, which helps elevate the reading experience. Updates/Chapters are posted regularly and consistently. Overall it is a very enjoyable story, and I recommend others to read it as well.
- WeldtRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5If you read it as something to enjoy passing the time and not anything deeper than that, it's quite fun read.I've noticed some stuff that don't make sense but honestly, I can't really care it's just like when I watch The Wire for the 10th time it's a type of guilty pleasure.
- aqaRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I was enjoying the first 50 chapters. The characters are charming. Storytelling slow paced but good. And sentenced flow nicely. It’s fun to see how the MC adjust from some ancient civilization to a far more modern world.Unfortunately around chapter 50 things take a turn for the worse. More and more one dimensional side characters are added, and the story focuses on them almost completely. While the MC is mostly used as a focal points for those side characters. Story progression slows even more, and many chapters are just slice off life.Another issue that starts to become obvious around that time, is the strong gender preferences the story enforces. After 100 chapters we’ve had 4 sick young girls, 0 boys. We’ve had a whole bunch of rude guy, 0 girls. Male attraction to the MC is all icky entitlement, female attraction to the MC is cute and deserves understanding. And quite a few similar themes.
