Description
After his reincarnation into a world that blends reality with video game elements, Alex, a former recluse, uncovers a troubling aspect of his new world: slavery is permitted. Despite his ethical reservations, he is enthralled by the chance to finally end his years of quiet, lonely suffering when he meets the beautiful and powerful slave girl named Yua. And it just so happens that she’s up for sale. Giving into temptation, Alex spends nearly all the gold he has to his name to acquire her, he realizes just how disastrous his hasty decision truly was, and not merely due to his own troubled conscience. Now, Alex is compelled to exhaust himself fighting in the dungeons beneath the Great City of Amoranth to earn more gold and to secure Yua's safety, as her former master has threatened her life (and Alex’s) should he fail to repay the debt he incurred from her purchase. Trying to do right by her, even while dealing with her unending sass, he struggles to maintain what he now holds very dear. At the same time, Yua grapples with her perception of Alex, wondering if he embodies the same type of brutal and unforgiving master she always feared would one day claim her, even though deep down, she suspects she already knows the answer. https://twitter.com/LethalBacon115patreon.com/LethalBacon

- Jaybird#IDGAFRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If I could give it 10/10 stars I would. SO I have NEVER left a review for a book that didn’t deserve it. I’m a retired firefighter/paramedic and disabled. The ONLY thing I do is read and listen to music (with a little whiskey from time to time). I read/listen to an average of 450-475 hours a month. SO that being said let’s get into what is simply my own opinion on this creation.
Firstly LethalBacon (no such thing bacon is life) is a deeply methodical and meaningful author. It’s blatantly obvious that they took a considerable amount of time to consider this book from the heart. It was barbarically pointed out that some of the inspiration may or may not have come from other authors works. Well to the jack wagon who said that, NOTHING has been plagiarized. It’s not out of character for an author to draw inspiration from prior readings of other authors. Dare I say it’s often considered a form of respect. So there’s that…🍺
Secondly, all you grammar Nazis taking off points because of editing and all this other crap. Are you not aware that most of these authors on here are not using a publishing house? Most of them are college students or single parents or just simply are trying to earn some extra money using a passion that burns within them. You are being offered an opportunity for FREE to read their work and comment on things like character development, world development, plot line to be a sounding board to help them maybe rewrite parts of it and make it better not to critique word use punctuation and whether or not the sentence makes sense to you or not. So giving somebody three or 3 1/2 stars because they didn’t put a comma where you felt it should’ve went is absurd, especially since you’re probably not an English major or Teacher.
OK, sorry about that. I just had to put that out there because lethal bacon is a very good author. I feel like they have done the best they can to take their time to put out a reputable book, but not only makes sense but is also relatable. - Chadwick RyeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is pretty good. I love how the author has handled the main character and his inner dialogue and self hatred. I'm 20ish chapters into volume one and have really enjoyed the story so far. It's has a similar plot to a manga/anime that i know but the author has made the story their own and it feels like a completely different story just with similar beats. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. Also there is a villain in the early story that he handled supremely well. Had me sympathizing with the guy only to turn it on me. That's some good stuff. The early chapters with the inner dialogue are a bit tough to get through though but in my opinion they need to be so that you can understand where the main character's head is at. Yua's character is nice and falls into a certain trope but I feel like she is a good character and I am eager to see how she develops further. I also like that Lethal Bacon doesn't hold my hand as some really big name authors tend to do *Cough*(Yes Brandon, i get how your magic system works, stop telling me!) *Cough*. All together i give the story five stars as i am enjoying it deeply. Maybe I'm a bit biased to these type of stories but hey, i like what i like.
- Welds RainbowsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Straight up the MC hooked me on the story I'm recovering from severe social anxiety and the MC's internal issues really hooked me right from the start yes the initial set with truck and goddess up is pretty much played out and rehashed all over the genre but the story quickly goes off the rails into deeper territory.
- PhotemyRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is one of the best novels I've found on this site in a long time.
Much of what i read is isekai trash, albeit - that is indeed how I found this one - but I still believe my opinion counts at least for something.
Style&grammar in spoiler below, to save space.
The novel almost completely free of typos and weird word replacements one would get from grammar correction tools, much better than the average for this site. There are a couple, as is inevitable, but so few that it doesn't matter. The actual structure works. Except for very few occasions, the actual writing is never treated as more than a medium to convey the story. I've never once lost track of who's talking in dialogue, the paragraphs are clear, decently structured, but meaty.I don't remember seeing any.
As for the actual story.
If I had to sum it up in a single sentence, then... this is one of those novels where Everything Is A Coping Mechanism.
And, I mean that in the nicest way possible, and by itself, is neither a good or a bad thing. Treating it as such would be like saying "star wars is objectively worse than spongebob, because space opera, bleh".
The story is very character driven, and the characters are fun and interesting. However, I have a single critique here, which I've found the story does and which I think it suffers for. Many times, especially with important characters, they will suddenly and seemingly for no reason turn deeply one-dimensional. There is always a reason, but the problem is that it actually being explained can be... far. Tens of thousands of words amounts of far.
Chief culprit here is the catgirl you see on the cover, though the main character does it too sometimes to a lesser extent.
For a very long time - nearly half of the novel at the point I'm writing this, but that percentage will get lower because she since stopped - she turned into the most stereotypical japanese webnovel "Master is so Amazing〜〜〜♡♡" slave girl you can comprehend.
It's as offputting as it always is, - ultrachezRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The story draws inspiration from a known isekai harem story to almost craft it's own path and retain being interesting so far.
The writing style is a bit hap harard as it seems the author jumps from one point to another which can be jarring. Editing will definitely be required.
The MC is absolute cringe. I am not sure if that was the authors original intention to demonstrate character growth but it's too early to tell. The MC's inner monologue can definitely be cut down substantially to make the story more cohesive.
The other characters, especially Yua started off well but devolved into "Master is amazing" every three paragraphs which is a bit off a let down.
The leveling is outrageously fast, even with MC's cheats. Author could pace the story better. A good example at the time of this writing is that only 2 days have passed in the story. Perhaps, shifting the deadline to 30 days might help.
The world is a mixed bag and a bit consistent. At times there is wish fulfillment, then slice of life, then depression of the MC, and then cruelty.
My overall score is 3 but rated a star higher to encourage the author. - Michael MoodyRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Overall I liked the story. I wish the world so far as of book two was fleshed out more. I wish the MC writing by way of thinking was better but from responses to comments I believe author had a growth arc for the main character he wanted to process. So I understand fully his writing. I do appreciate his work and believe if you like the genre then you should read this book.
- RexRegisRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Finished Volume one, it's a decent read. Is it the best thing I've read on this site? No, however it is far, far from being the worst.
For the negatives, there are numerous small spelling mistakes throughout. There are times where the sentences don't read quite right, due to unnecessary additional words or minor grammar mistakes.
The MC's constant self-flagellation gets a bit grating, however after a certain incident, that does steadily reduce. There are occasions where a character seems to become a one-note "The MC is so amazing, he can do no wrong and his piss smells like candy and sunshine" hype-girl, however that is later explained by the character themselves.
As for the positives, it is refreshing to see one of these where the MC does genuinely feel bad for participating in the slave trade. Outside of some incidents, which do get explained, the characters do feel like actual people.
You can tell that actual thought has been put into the character interactions.
To put it simply, I'd say it's worth a read if you're looking for something you can relax with, just be prepared for the MC to have paragraphs upon paragraphs of internal monologues where he beats himself with a metaphorical whip, like he's 15th century Spanish monk repenting for the sin of looking at a married woman's ankle.
7/10
After finishing the second volume, can say that parts of my negative criticism only apply to the first volume.
There are still occasional spelling and grammar mistakes, missed words or additional words that make a sentence feel clunky, on average between six to twelve per chapter, but that's something a proofreader (or person in the comment section willing to spend more time than I am on going through the chapter again and giving the corrections) can fix.
The MC does still have moments of self-flagellation, but they are mercifully shorter, spread further apart and are more along the lines of "Wow, I'm an idiot, can't make that mistake again" instead of the "I'm an irredeemable p - MakionGamesRoyal Road★★★ 3.0This story is meh.. The MC is pretty dumb, like I wonder if later on it's revealed he's got real issues.
The story premise is great, though. Guy gets a new chance on life, and decides to win! Great!
Except...
I honestly wonder if the author has ever actually had sex. The scenes described are... Odd?? Like, a porn star would be amazed at what this MC can do.
The girls in this world seem to all have huge breasts, and they're all almost completely exposed. Well, OK, I guess. The MC's first and second wives come from a tribe where everyone's naked, and that's fine? Adult children will grind on their parents? That's very odd..
The dungeon work is actually well done. I actually wish the MC spent more time in the dungeons leveling up.
Instead, he spends most of his time ogling every single woman he comes across, to the point they're always ticked off at him.
Anyhow, I'm dropping this story. It's just a bit too weird. - OcerkinRoyal Road★★★ 3.0the MC of this story is dumber than a bag of rocks and has ZERO self control to the point that he eye fucks literally EVERY SINGLE FEMALE that he sees even when he is in serious situations he acts like a tween hopped up on so many hormones he is humping the couch if he sees something vaguely shaped like a woman.
add to the fact that he stutters and can barely speak to anyone even though HE HAS A PERK THAT BOOSTS HIS DAMN CONFIDENCE!
dont read this unless you want to read that amounts to "the boobs boobed boobily" over and over again every time a woman shows up in the story.
Edit: im bringing my rating up some because the author actually listens, regardless of if they change the story or not that is their choice but the fact they listen to critique is wonderful. - Marc1000Royal Road★★★ 2.5A young man with social anxiety starting an adventure in another world.
While I tried I couldn’t really get into the story as everything was just … too much.
The Mc has social anxiety and is extremely shy. Ok. But that shouldn’t automatically make him an idiot. Not reading a contract before signing or not checking on your belongings after a system-titled thief bumps into you isn’t something a supposedly rather intelligent young man should do.
And the way every encounter with a female gets over sexualized. I get it. He is horny and doesn’t know how to deal with it. But is it really necessary to describe the protagonist starring at a woman’s breast multiple times a chapter.
Thats not all of course. The rapid speed they gained levels and a huge sum of money in only 3 days. The many, many awkward encounters. The inner monologue. Zoning out multiple times during a conversation as if he was mentally disabled. All of it was too much.
Of course this is all just personal preference, but I would have enjoyed reading more, if the story and the actions of the protagonist were a bit more realistic.
