Description

Erich Saphir was born to be a warrior.  A swordsman trained to harness and utilize elemental mana to let him fight far beyond his physical limits. It was not a position of power or glory, rather a cold reality of imperial taxes.  His family needed the tax break that came from him joining the army and fighting in the eternal war that waged between Hollendil and its neighboring planet on the dark, miles wide bridge that stretched between their world and the next.  Warriors bled and died by the score, little more than fuel for the Empire's imperial ambitions, but that was Erich's fate so he took up his sword.  After all, what else was he to do?But what if it was all a lie?  What if the world he lived in and the magic he was taught was nothing more than a ruse designed to keep his family weak and complacent? What if he could be something more? ----------------------------------------------Updating Mondays and Thursdays (or more!)What to Expect -Fantasy-Progression-No LitRPG but LitRPG like elements such as tiers and levels for abilities-Unique Magic System-Spellblades!-Weak to Strong MC with untapped potential-One POV-Traveling companions/party members-Minor dating/relationships that aren't the main focus of the storyWhat not to Expect-Grind Heavy dungeon crawls-Harems/Explicit Sex

The story has a great start. Decent character development and a few twits that keep it interesting. The main character is likeable. Curious to see where the story is going to go as the setting changes quite frequently,  but it fits the storyline and makes sense.
The arcs are a nice touch and help with knowing what's going on.

I'm really enjoying this. It's fresh, with an interesting magic system and political setup. The writing is good, as is true of all Cale's books (I've bought a few).
I'm looking forward to where this goes and how Erich progresses. It’s flying under the radar at the moment but is definitely worth a read.

I didn't wait to read more. I was hooked from chapter 3. That is a sign of a master at work, painting a gripping narrative that will have you craving for more.
Novel power system, well built world and their inhabitants, and a hero who doesn't know that he has op talent - until the story starts picking up speed. Great ingredients and a great recipe = great dish served on RR. Yummy. 😋

This isa very interesting story. There is usually concept of honour and sword and etc. But the way the hero advances through the tiers is what make this worth the ready. There is 3 main ways , through images, where you have gained a concept, then with Aether, which coming from killing people or monster, which converts to Mana in a body, which is used power you concept. If you want to see a new way of advanceing with interesting concepts this is a story for you.

I have been a big fan of Cale’s work since Blessed Time and Viceroys Pride, and this new work did not disappoint. Fantastic character development, and storytelling that kept me engaged from the first chapter to the last.  Erich is a wonderfully complex character and I am really looking forward to seeing where this series goes. If you’re looking for a smart and compelling new series to invest your time in, I highly recommend this book.

As with all of this author’s stories, this one has me hooked. The power system involves gathering aether to empower a Core Image that offers a connection to different elements that match your affinities. Then learning a skill to use those elements. So affinity level, image quality, and skill quality are all mixed to allow a wide potential of abilities of different power even for individuals at the same tier. Fascinating design and super exciting for the chapters to come.
Style: classic Cocop where each chapter is largely self sufficient and good at avoiding cliff hangers. My only complaint so far is how long it is taking to join the wider world - more early info dumping than I’d prefer or expect, but as we move past that it should pick back up.
    Grammar: no issues.
Story: promising. Lots of room to work with and grow into.
Characters: the weakest point so far in the story. The only relevant character in most chapters is the MC, and from their background of a rejected family member toiling away at a warrior school, he is largely still lacking in personality. I’m hoping this improves as his circumstances improve, and that more companions show soon.
