Description

After nearly bleeding to death alone and cold Magnus wakes up in a damp cave filled with giant spiders. Will he survive or will he perish like many others before him?

A story inspired by Defiance of the Fall and The Primal Hunter.

Cover generated by Stable Diffusion.

Please keep in mind this is my first writing experience, so do not expect the story to be perfect or even good for that matter.

Lastly and most importantly enjoy the story.

What I like the most is the prose and style of writing. It's very easy to get into it, and the chapter aren't too long, which makes it very binge-able. (Not sure if that's a word, but it not, it should be )
I hate spiders though, and all those limbs and carapace just creeps me the fuvk out. I wish magnus the best as the travels through my own personal hell.

Surviving the System is a well written LitRPG that draws some inspiration from other popular novels on the site. The author puts their own twist on the System and it is an enjoyable read.
The story flows smoothly and keeps you hooked, with chapters that lead on nicely from one to the next and don't drag on. It also uses a colour coded system for different rarity Skills, which looks nice as you are reading through and is a nice reminder of the different Skill Rarities as they Level Up.
So far Magnus has been thrown into challenge after challenge, with rewards to match the danger he is put in. It is nice to see a character earn their power instead of having it handed to them, which is something Surviving the System does very well. The fights are well written and you can feel the difference when Magnus progresses, something that is important to me when reading a LitRPG.
I haven't  noticed any spelling mistakes or major grammatical errors. The novel reads nice and there is nothing that takes you out of it from poor phrasing. Instead, the way it's written lets you get immersed.
At the point I am at, only two characters have been introduced. However, the main character Magnus is very well developed and has clear motivations for everything he does. The character is consistent and relatable, as well as being strong willed enough to be the protagonist of the story, and the side character that is introduced is written very well.
Overall, Surviving the System is an action packed LitRPG with a great start and a very promising future. I look forwards to seeing where the story leads and if Magnus will ever be free of having to deal with spiders.

This novel is filled to the brim with grammatical mistakes. If you, like me, cannot handle that, this isn't for you. If you don't care, then the novel has a bit of charm. As I haven't gotten very far into the story (ch 10), it hasn't had the most time to develop- but, so far, the character is... bland. From what I recall, there was a single instance of significant character development at the very start, where he decided, like all LitRPG protagonists, that this is actually an opportunity.
The style of the novel is a bit above average, but it's not enough to prop up the other flaws in the novel IMO.
The story hasn't had much time to develop, but it feels a bit aimless so far- like the author didn't really have any plans for the novel at all.
Overall, this review has a lot of criticism and not much positives, so you might be wondering why I gave it a 3.5 stars. Assuming 3 is the average score, I would, indeed, say that this is better than the average novel.
