This stretch ofStars Dancingis an absolute ride: hilarious Discord chaos on the surface, and then this slow, creeping emotional honesty underneath that hits harder the more you read.Sam/Ayela’s voice is the real weapon here. It’s witty, messy, overthinking, impulsive, and painfully human. The way the story captures that “online community whiplash” feeling is spot on: one minute you’re riding a high from validation and new connections, the next you’re spiralling because you overshared, misread the vibe, or suddenly wonder if any of it is real friendship. And it’s not written like a lecture, either — it’s written like someone living it in real time, which makes it land. The comedy is genuinely strong. The Discord banter, the constant pings, the awkward attempts to be cool, the misunderstandings, the “did I just get hit on??” moments… it’s all sharp and paced well. But what surprised me is how smoothly it turns into something more personal without losing momentum. The scenes with Nanna are a standout: warm, grounding, and quietly heartbreaking in the way only real family support can be. Those moments give the whole arc weight, so when the insecurity and paranoia creep in, it doesn’t feel manufactured — it feels inevitable.I also really like how this section threads in bigger themes (identity, authenticity, loneliness, ambition, grief) while still keeping it readable and entertaining. It’s a character-driven story thatknowswhat it’s doing, even when the protagonist feels like she doesn’t.If I had one tiny nitpick, it’s that the second-hand embarrassment is so strong at points that I had to take a breather… but honestly? That’s a compliment. It means it’s working. If you want a story that’s funny, heartfelt, and uncomfortably relatable about community, connection, and the weird emotional minefield of online spaces — this one delivers.P.S. I love that this story is not afraid to make up words we all used from our childhood. Use of language such as "absofuckinglutely" absolu

Throughly enjoying this series so far not just the story which I felt hooked on rather quickly (I like Sci-fi and I like Romatansy, but never read something that combines them and does it so well).
The way the story is written with dropping in little extracts of works from the world the story is written in is excellent and really adds to the richness of the world it's set in.
Information is revealed in a way that is easy to follow and doesn't feel too heavy/too info dumpy which can often be the case with sci-fi imo. So the world bulding / lore of the world / character building are all balanced nicely.
The author goes beyond as well often offering recommended music to listen to with certain chapters which I love and is something unique that I haven't tried before - but it adds so much!
Ryst comes across as a character with many dimensions to them and their voice is consistent throughout the first person POV across different "modes" such as journals and sleep journals too.
Overall, it feels like a fresh take in the genre and not like something I have read before. I would highly recommend giving this story a shot!

Overall: This story feels like it’s a lovely stroll in the park, but with a lot of reflection along the way. Some of it hard. Some of it light. And some of it confused. It’s a deep look inside the mind of a young woman who’s gone through a trauma and now experiencing an unexpected change. She’s just trying to figure it all out and understand this new person she is becoming.Style: the style is working for this story. It shows snippets of a broader world, while we zoom in and get a close up shot of a fracturing woman’s mind. She’s being broken open and we get to see all the pieces.Story: this is a slow burn, but it works for this story. We get to see a progression that’s obviously working up to big change for our main character and the reader has a front row seat to her agony, to her confusion, to her trying to figure out who she is now with all the change. As someone who has gone through life altering changes a few times, this feels real and lived in.Grammar: I only saw a few typos as I read. Mostly, this is a clean and sharp piece of writingCharacter: we do see a few characters in this story but the main Ryst is front and center. She has a lot of heart and instantly likable. Character feels flesh out and her inner chatter gives us a clear view of her progression through the fallout from her trauma and dissolved marriage. I look forward to seeing how her character progresses throughout the story and if she gets the answers she’s looking for.

Holy turds this is great stuff.
There are some stories that take a bit of wind up before they get their hooks into you. Then there are stories like this where a single chapter of text and BOOM, you're there. You want to see what's next and not at the same time. Dozens of chapters later you've lost more time than you care to admit paging to the next one.
I love that there is soooooo much more to explore and experience in Ayela's world. I can easily lose myself there for hours on end. It's like reading texts from a favorite friend without the expectation and heaviness of needing to reply.
I'm coming up for air to write a review because more people need to get in on this. Ayela-the-character is well crafted, well executed and a whole ass person in her own right. The supporting characters in her life and in Discord conversations are distinct individuals too. I don't know how Ayela-the-author keeps them all straight in her head, but damn.
This is a hilarious run down a familiar rabbit hole of writing, validation, friendship, love(?) and all things human. I'm a super fan and will be exploring more of Ayela's writing going forward.

From Chapter 1 itself it is already gripping! The urgent, fragmented style perfectly mirrors Ryst Nova’s disorientation... Fleeing between pillars, waking injured in a hospital, and slowly piecing together her husband’s DiBest-fueled attack. Vivid medical details, tense questioning, and raw, revealing conversations with Skyla and Neal pull you right into her pain and confusion.
It’s different from typical novels, but that’s exactly what makes it so unforgettable.

Just finished reading the first 9 chapters of Book five. A tale of a young author who gets swept up in a world known only as...Discord. The story takes place in the future and follows Sam, who goes by the Pen Name of Ayela, as she discovers Discord. From there we see her make connections with an author she admires as well as many other people on a Discord channel. In that space, and also her personal life, we discover she has a noticeable naivety about life and social interactions, as well as self-esteem issues. Something tells me that rough times may be ahead for our young author.
Now on to the nitty gritty.
Story: The story wasn't the type I would normally read, but it was very imaginative and easy to follow. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a sapphic story on Royal Road.
Grammar: By and large, the grammar was solid. There were a few things there that I won't nitpick about, because they were clearly stylistic in nature so they worked for the story.
Characters: Characters seemed well fleshed out and 3D overall.  The main character being the best example of this as the majority of those chapters was primarily on her. When secondary characters like her grandmother appeared, they were also given an appropriate amount of backstory for how long they were present.
Style: The style of the story was definitely a bit different than what I would normally read or see in other works, but it worked for this story.

Ayela Arcana has done it again with Book 5 of Stars Dancing. If Books 1-4 built this sprawling, heartfelt universe with telepathy, psychics, found family, and those rom-com space opera vibes, Book 5 shifts gears into something quieter, more intimate, and achingly real a slow-burn WLW romance centered on Sam (our messy, brilliant aspiring author writing under Ayela) and Coda. The prose here feels even more lyrical and purposeful than before. Sam's voice-raw, anxious, funny, occasionally self-sabotaging-is so authentic it hurts in the best way. You feel every flutter of her Discord notifications, every spiral of overthinking, every tiny victory when she lets someone in. Coda is the perfect counterpoint: steady, enigmatic, with just enough mystery to keep the tension simmering without ever feeling contrived.Their chemistry builds so gradually that when the sparks finally catch, it's electric. What I love most is how Ayla weaves the larger cosmic elements (dream walkers, Talented bonds, hints of the bigger 150-year arc) into the background without overshadowing the personal story. This book is cozy slice-of-life meets psychological depth meets tender sapphic romance. The themes of healing from trauma, finding belonging, and daring to be seen hit hard, especially for anyone who's ever felt like an outsider in their own life or creative work.No massive plot explosions here like in earlier volumes just deep character work, witty banter, vulnerable moments, and that delicious tension of two people circling each other across digital and psychic spaces. If you're here for the WLW slow-burn promised in Books 5-7, this delivers in spades.Minor nitpick: the pacing is deliberately leisurely, so if you prefer faster plots, it might test your patience-but that's the point. It's a book about connection, not conquest.Easily one of the strongest entries yet. 5 stars, heart eyes emoji, staying up way too late reading.Ayela, keep breaking my heart and putting it back together. Can't wait

Discordant is a wonderfully surprising and emotionally engaging story that pulls you in with humor and keeps you hooked with a deeply human look at loneliness, hope, and the strange comfort of online friendships. The writing is smooth, confident, and full of personality, and the narrative voice feels incredibly authentic in a way that makes the main character both lovable and painfully relatable. The story begins with light comedy and slice of life charm, but slowly reveals a more introspective and psychological side that elevates the entire experience. What really stands out is how accurately the author captures the chaotic rhythm of Discord culture, from the rapid fire conversations to the strange intimacy that develops between people who have never met face to face. The characters are memorable, distinct, and bursting with life, and each interaction feels natural rather than forced. The pacing is patient but never slow, and every chapter reveals a new layer of emotion or tension that makes you want to keep reading. Grammar and polish are excellent, making the experience smooth from start to finish.Discordant succeeds because it feels honest and grounded under all the humor, and it offers a heartfelt story that readers can genuinely connect with.

Reading Discordant feels like watching someone stumble into a community and somehow turn the chaos into something unexpectedly warm. It’s funny, intimate, awkward in the best ways, and far more emotionally real than I expected going in. What first looks like a comedy of Discord disasters slowly becomes a genuine portrait of loneliness, connection, and the strange comfort of finding “your people” online.I’ve read 21 chapters in total. Starting from the standalone "Discordant" publication and continuing through its addition to Volume 5 of "Stars Dancing." And I have to admit: it’s striking. Discord chats, first-person narration, DMs, timestamps… the whole mixed media structure shouldn’t work as smoothly as it does, but it does. Beautifully.Ayela captures exactly what it feels like to live inside a server full of people who share your hobby:chaos, jokes about smut 24/7, deep conversations at 3 AM, cat gifs, random life crises, and sudden flirting from people you’ve never met. It’s all very “Discord-ish”, if you ask me. Heh...Style: One of the most original aspects of this story is its format. It slides effortlessly from traditional novel prose into raw Discord chatlogs, complete with usernames (parody of real ones), internet slang, and emojis. It’s bold and playful, and it gives the whole narrative a sense of immediacy. There is a risk with this kind of format: too much chaos can dilute emotionally heavy moments, but the author balances it well. She knows exactly when to lean into the comedy and when to slow down a lil bit for sincerity. It really is “going from existential crises to debating whether lesbian mermaids kiss out of the water.” (Spoiler: they do.)Story: Simple! and that’s the whole point! It doesn’t try to be grand or dramatic, it’s cozy, direct, and comforting. Not "easy to digest" in the shallow sense, but genuinely soothing. It’s the kind of story you read to relax, to feel at home, to escape without leaving reality behind.Grammar: Ayela has shown solid

I'll be honest, my experience with the "romantasy" genre is mostly from being forced to watch Chinese romantasy shows by my wife. So, when I went into Stars Dancing, I had no idea what to expect. But I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
The novel starts with a powerful punch, introducing us to Dr. Ryst Nova, a strong martial artist who is also an obgyneca. After a horrific attack leaves her with both physical and mental scars, she decides to leave her past behind and find peace on a secluded desert planet. This journey of healing and self-discovery is the heart of the story, and it feels authentic and honest.
The world-building is very detailed without feeling overwhelming. I loved the idea of the "Known Cosmos" operating like a giant corporation, and the contrast between Ryst's high-tech, violent past and the more peaceful, rustic world she finds herself in is fascinating. The descriptions of the Shurwinn culture, their vegetarian diet, and their unique way of life are really clear and makes the world feel alive. The mystery of the "Warrior Nuns" and her cool new abilities, like being able to hear thoughts, adds a great layer of intrigue that kept me hooked.
I find that the book has a fresh take on the genre, blending sci-fi with fantasy and a lot of heart. It’s not just about the romance; it's about Ryst's journey to reclaim her life and find a new purpose. I have only read 10 chapters so far but it has left me wanting more, which is always a good sign! I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a unique romantasy sci-fi story, whether you're a fan of the genre or not.
