Legacy of the Gate is a wonderful tale in the Stargate tradition. It follows the adventures of Cate MacGregor, a seasoned RAAF officer, as she is plunged into the world of Stargate Command. The story is well paced and the characters are compelling to follow. There is a lot of detail in the dogfights that Cate and her squadron engage in adding to a sense of realism.
Cate is a well balanced character and the author is able to balance action with character development.  Cate's past, including her harrowing experiences in espionage and military operations add layers to her character, making her victories feel well earned and her struggles feel personal and relatable. In addition, Cate is a courageous and resilient leader, be it leading a squadron of F-302 fighter pilots or organizing a rag tag group of rebels.
Cate's interaction with established characters, especially with SG-1 add a wonderful touch to the tale. It felt like they were passing the torch of their legacy onto Cate. Additional elements like the Tok'ra and the Lucian Alliance add a sense of grounding to the beloved franchise.
Overall Legacy of the Gate is an excellent read and recommended for newcomers to the franchise or for the die hard fan.  I agree with Sam's assessment at the beginning of the story, Cate will make a hell of a leader of an SG Team one day and she is well on her way to doing so.
