Description

Today wasn’t one of Fritz’s best days, in fact, he would’ve rated it as one of his worst. Mainly because he'd been beaten, kidnapped, stuffed in a cell with a slew of other captives then forced to climb a particularly malevolent Spire. It is said that with great risks come great rewards and that goes triply so for the Spires. Fritz is determined to make the best of the worst, climbing to the very top. If he can. The Spires have stood tall for thousands of years as cities, kingdoms and empires rise and fall around them. Inside the Spires are Treasures, Monsters and most importantly, Powers. Every floor conquered within gives a choice of magical Abilities or Attributes that, when built up and chosen well, could raise even a street urchin to a king or even beyond. Which is lucky for our hero, because he, his best friend and his crewareurchins; or thieves to be more precise, caught in a deadly peril, climb or die. What to expect. MC is not OP and is not a loner. Fighting in ‘Climber’ teams with the occasional solo battles. The crew will start off as inexperienced Climbers and will make mistakes, but they will learn. Weak to strong. A System granted and empowered by the Spires, based on chance, choice and actions. You’ve got to Climb Spires to get strong. Gaining Abilities and Aligning Attributes will be meaningful. --- *Minor Spoilers* --- MC will be a scout/stealth specialist focusing on Perception and Agility as well as Sense and eventually Shadow Powers (and more). Some unpowered action and fighting but MC and Crew get their first, well-earned Powers in * Chapter Spoiler* Chapter eight. *Chapter spoiler* --- *Spoilers Over* --- Long-ish Chapters 3300+ words. Updating Sundays, AEST. Patreon six chapters ahead.

A hidden gem. The characters in the book are simply very good. Their interactions are very funny. And the power system is also very solid and cool. This book deserved to be in the top 10, without a shadow of a doubt. I just think the cover of the book should be changed, it draws very little attention. For those who read this review, give the book a chance, you won't regret it.

I finally caught up, and what a ride!
It's well written. The characters have depths and a character of their own, the world building is good, albeit a bit small for now, but it seems like there's a lot to unravel.

Can't wait till we get to see the bigger spires.
I understand that the filler arcs outside the tower are important but they're a bit too long for me haha.
Great novel overall, the world building is very interesting and makes me want to go outside of the island to the other kingdoms and spires

The author maintains a nice blend of action and other types of challenges that keep the tension without becoming bland. Everything always has a clear reason behind it without stretching belief overmuch. Chapters always have a nice amount of meat in them.
The story has a nice flow to it. The tension is maintained well with nice breaks in between the action to build depth to everything going on. The story has a refreshing take on tower climbing and has a interesting protagonist in Fritz. Overall I have enjoyed the slow steady world building that has been steadily spread across the story without delving into long monologues.
The protagonist has a lot of depth and has a lot of growing to do. Nobody is overpowered and there is a clear sense of progression.
Grammar is clean with only an occasional typo here and there that is corrected rapidly.

The author does a great job building the world and power system within it. All the power the MC gets feels earned and all the emotion he is able to get the character to portray helps really build him out. Especially his internal struggle with his anger and grief. Much enjoyed will continue to read!

What can I say except this story is excellent. I could tell nearly immediately that I was going to enjoy it but throughout the story I just kept becoming more and more impressed. It clearly draws a lot of inspiration from 'The Lies of Locke Lamora' in a really wonderful way—the primary city is sinking and waterlogged, with a robust criminal hierarchy led by a powerful Underlord.
Style: The story oozes style, it's very funny in a way that reminds me of Discworld, I found myself laughing out loud on more than one occasion Also all of the item/power descriptions have the most charming little rhymes which really solidifies the identity of the stat system.
Grammar: Other than maybe two typos throughout I didn't notice any poor grammar or even awkward sentence construction.
Story: The story is compelling, though admittedly fits into fairly well-worn grooves. I did take a half star off because my only real criticism of the story is that the pacing could be just a hair faster. There are certain events I felt could have been skipped over with brief descriptions rather than complete scenes, but even this criticism mostly stems from my desire to see the story unfold more than any frustration with what we have.
Character: This is where I would give this story a 6/5 if I could, the characters are fantastic. Fritz and Bert's relationship is very reminiscent of Locke and Jean, which is probably the most compelling part of 'Lies,' without feeling like it's simply their story redone. All of the side characters feel fully realized and have strong voices of their own, the brief glimpses we see into their heads always feel like they're simply fleshing out the character we've seen all along.
It's a crime this story isn't more popular, you should read it.

I'll be following this keenly, thoroughly enjoyed reading so far. A well written dungeon crawler with notes of wordplay and poetry spread throughout demonstating effort, intent and playfulness from the writer.
Pacing is solid, while overall story progress is slow the progression in a flexible, high-potential and low-crunch magic system is consistent with characters growing without racing to OP status.
Action is quite constant but well balanced with interaction between likable characters - there is a persistent and natural feeling comedy in their banter that does an excellent job of lightening the action density while still allowing personality, growth and backstory to come through.
I haven't felt once that rationality was compromised to force a plot point or that the writer has forgotten something they've written - a frequent complaint and pet peeve I have with serials I've encountered here.
Exposition leans quite heavily on dialogue but it's frequency and the aforementioned humour mitigate any feeling of info-dumping and the nuance of any litrpg system kinda requires it regardless.
The setting and story are slow to develop but there are several threads in motion and while I'm left hungry for more if the quality persists I can only be grateful that there is indeed more to come.
The characters all feel individual - they have personality traits, history, goals and development that while not dwelt on are expounded on across their 'screen time'.
I'm no graduate but as far as grammar goes I've noticed a single misplaced comma across the journey to 'caught up'
Writer cares about their work and so do I, recommend entirely.

Good stuff, worth reading. Interesting party dynamics, solid, gradual world building, overall engaging. Definitely recommended.
Weak to strong. Setting will be familiar to anyone that has red spire stories, at the premise is nicely Incorporated to the world here. Lots of fights and party dynamics, likeable characters that survive difficult circumstances.

Why the heck this story isn't receiving any popularity that it deserves!? When in reality this is one complete package right here, From the character's and the dialogue its just superb, and then you have style which put it on above the rest, and let's not leave the story which is for me is one of its best qualities that focuses dungeon diving (literally) , you also got the politics that's still a mystery at the moment but we're getting i believe. Just read it

Spire’s spite is an incredibly well written work of fiction; the world building ( even though we,ve only see but a small part of the world so far) is very interesting and feels lived in, the characters Fritz and other are all very well written and their motivations make sense. The antagonist similarly all have agency and are not just created to move the plot along, ( for example it makes sense for there to be a crime lord controlling the rough part of the city). But my favourite part of the book by far is the power system: the way people gain power through climbing spires and the corresponding power levels just makes sense, personally I hate when characters double in strength overnight in other novels meanwhile in this novel every shred of power is earned and very strong people are correspondingly rare. When it comes to grammar and style the novel is flawless.Read this right now. I only wish there were more chapters per week
