Description

Ash Vale was a raw recruit when the near-mythic party Bright Hollow plucked him from obscurity, only for a single, brutal night to wipe every member from existence and leave him the shuddering, sole survivor. Three years later, Ash drifts through Valmaris with a cracked sword and a heart splintered by survivor’s guilt, rejected by every guild that once hailed Bright Hollow as legend. Refusing to disappear, he begins piecing together his own band of misfits, Emberlight, hoping their fledgling strength can justify the life he feels he stole. As guild rivalries ignite the War of Imperium and the long-dormant Night Warden emerges with a fallen hero in its shadow, Ash must decide whether to keep fleeing the ghosts that whisper he didn’t deserve to live—or to wield his lingering guilt like steel and stand for those who still can.

I was convinced this would be another trope where the MC started out overpowered, or with some kind of special ability, however that is not the case. The main character is a rookie status adventurer who happened to be recruited by a powerful party, but before they could help the MC build a meaningful foundation in what it means to be an adventurer, they die.
The detailed settings and world building is chefs kiss. Despite the chapter length varying from short to long, the story settings are heavily detailed as to bring out a robust vivid imagery as you follow along.
Every character is well thought out, and have their own identity. Each new chapter presents more character and story lore that adds to their personality.
Fight scenes are satisfyingly well done in the later chapters. Each character has their own unique quirk that force the team to struggle in battles. This might be because they’re all low ranking adventurer’s with little to no battle experience, but this dynamic sets up the party for future growth.
The theme of unity and hope between misfits is an excellent twist on the story after the MC loses his old party. There is a familiar theme of resurrection and redemption sprinkled out into every chapter, and even the naming sense is tied back to the plot progression.
This is a slow progression type of story, where the MC starts off weak. There’s not much else to say, other than that the story is well written. Keep it up!

This story, once you strip away all the utterly sappy unreadable shit, and the overly cliché, amongst it's other faults, has the makings of a good one.
It feels rushed, with the basics for a good world building and characterization there, but warped. We don't have clear explanations of all kinds of things about the world which are mentioned.
The story progress is rushed. It's too unrealistic, even fantastically. It's too fast overall and feels like I'm reading a summarised set of time skips rarhan than the story itself.
The characters are too one dimensional despite there being enough info to be better. Sometimes they don't even fit their own backstory, or randomly change altogether for a short before continuing from where they were. The reveals of the back stories are also very awkward and feel like a waste of good plot devices that would have better served in later chapters than when they were explained. There's a crucial lack of consistency in how it goes.
The first chapter is decent, and the content shows the author has some plan for the story but it feels like he fleshed it out halfway and then go lost in how to execute the plans he'd made. It tried to stick to clear themes but....
The grammar isn't bad but can't make up for the overall weakness of the story.
I hope it improves in later chapters but so far it has been rather disappointing.
