Soulbound [An Assassin LitRPG]
Community Rating
Description
Eight thousand kills. Seventy years of work as an assassin. One equal. Elijah has executed countless missions in his lifetime, and succeeded in all but one. His greatest rival and fellow assassin, Avery, has eluded his bests attempts to kill her for decades. Both tasked with eliminating the other, the two have been locked in a deadly dance for years. But, as they prepare for one final confrontation, victory is stolen from both of them.
Bound together by their mutual hatred and time of death, the two are reincarnated into the world of Alpha 13-A and their souls linked together. A mysterious force intervenes in their revival, allowing them to keep their memories and abilities. In order to survive and rise to the top of this new world, the two must put their quest to kill each other on hold. This realm has seen monsters, demons, and incredible magic, but it's never faced the might of the two greatest assassins in the history of earth.

- Beaste01Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Came across this and gave it a try and really enjoyed it. It rattles along and doesn't take itself too seriously, but it is fun. The MCs obviously share some significant history and perhaps they'll be flashback episodes in the future but for the moment it's fun to follow along as they explore their new world.

Immediately this story grips the reader. Funny, entertaining, and incredibly charming(not what I expected from the title and cover). The relationship between the two main characters is the driving force behind this series. The two of them are well defined and despite their similarities in occupation, the way they execute (hehe) their plans and lack thereof is entirely different.
However, since there is a word count requirement for reviews on Royal Road I will express some issues I have noticed. One concern I have is the pacing. I think the pacing/passing of time is a little too fast. It feels like the characters get to the new world and then bam now they are in a small town, now a big city, and then immediately to a dungeon. Also, some scenes weren't allowed to breathe so to speak. This culminates into very low stakes(so far) and little to no understanding of their world.
Another minor concern I have pertains to the relationship between the two protagonists and how will evolve and affect the story down the line. So far so good. Finally, the power system is a tad lackluster(I'm assuming this will be fleshed out more as the characters increase in level) and the chapters are dreadfully short.
Fortunately, this is all fixable as the story progresses and may not concern other readers. - GibboxRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story kicks off quickly and plays the humour off well of 2 people who spent a lifetime trying to kill each other because someone told them to. It always feels like they're moving forward and the world building is satisfying as the story progresses. Pretty much MR & Mrs Smith movie but in fantasy and it's great.
- a usernameRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Saw this, and the premise seemed interesting. It still feels like it's in the early stages, but definitely worth reading right now, and seeing where it's going. the two main characters are distinct and, while not completely fleshed out right now, seem to have plenty left to explore and plenty of growing that they can do.
- drizzt6947Royal Road★★★★ 4.0As the title says, the story is great so far. The premise is interesting and there are hints of things we're yet to discover.
However, there are a few gripes I have which personally break immersion for me.
Example 1 : The two protagonists don't sound like people born in the 1950s. (Died around 2040 at 90 years old). They sound more like youngish people. No matter how old people try to keep up with times, there are some conversation habits they won't let go or pick up.
Example 2 : Girl who died on the titanic uses the word 'cool'. That's it.
Overall a great read and I hope the author revisits their literature later to fix these small issues. - Sir CremeRoyal Road★★★ 3.0The story is standard for a lit-rpg and is not different in the slightest. Despite the gimmick of the story being how the Mc and heroine are lifelong rivals, the way the author portrays their relationship is utterly mundane and uninteresting. There is no exploration of their relationship and their past and despite being people who lived out an entire life, they act like a 20yo
- DreamsRoyal Road★★★ 2.5The premise initially and based on the blurb makes it seem like you're gonna get to read about two old school assassins in an isekai setting. Instead, it ends up being a completley generic litrpg isekai story. Maybe an interesting premise but the author also hasn't decided to explore it at this point. Do something unique or interesting with it please, you can't have the worlds 2 best assassins who have been hunting each other forever have such a dull dynamic. Needs a buff on the litRPG mechanics as well, nothing exciting there.
Also there's like 20ish entries but they're each a couple pages max. It's gonna be tough to maintain readers with an almost month long hiatus at this point while also putting out some of the shorter chapters you'll see.
