The price for saving the world is the right to rule it.
After saving a faraway land, Lyn Rivers was cast back to Earth. Wanting the admiration, prestige, and glory of saving that realm, she forced her way back.
But she was forgotten, and someone else claimed credit for her deeds.
Now, with the power of a deity of destruction, she desires nothing more than to claim her place in history. To do that she will conquer dungeons, make alliances, destroy kingdoms, and build an empire.
After all, why ruin the world when you can bend it to your will?

Impeccably written with amazing detail in all the right places. No grammatical errors as far as I have found.
A well built world that is revealed fluidly. No giant info dump chapters to be found here.
Characters feel like they have depth and motivation. The characters aren't just spelled out for you, and yet with less than a chapter you can feel what they are like.
Over all a very enjoyable read, now back to binging the rest lol. - Dragonwolf~~~Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A realy nice Story. I realy like to read it. Hope it stays so good. - TorisenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Quite enjoying the story and flow. In places it does sound like bits of pieces of other stories I've read, but with my over 50 years and hundreds of stories I read. What doesn't? In any case I look forward to more of Lyn's adventures in saving all of the non-human races as well as saving the humans from themselves.
- spart1n158Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly the best subversive isekai I’ve read ever. Lyn is great. The plot points are expected, but the execution of them is absolutely unique without seeming forced. Just finished book two and can’t wait for the third. I feel like fifty words is too many words by about ten I don’t think I’ve ever managed to fill it without some bullshit at the end.
- liodretRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A reale good Story i love it 🥰
The Charakters have a realy good Evolution….
Go Lyn and kill this bitch Cecyl 😶
🫣☺️❤️😅😶
why do i have to put in 50 Words, sry i‘m Not so good in describing, but i think this sorry is Worth the Time:)
Fi - Maou RazonicaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The powers are well balanced, and the heroes aren't impossibly OP, so you can expect some good army building in the future where the army actually matters. The progression has been fast so far, the heroes are well-characterized, and one of the more fascinating things about the cast is just guessing which side they'll ultimately take. Their choices always make sense once it actually happens, but you can still be left guessing. And it has a magic system which again, is very fun and powerful in the right circumstances, but well balanced enough to let the armies still matter.
Go give it a shot! I recommend. - SaibinuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love this story! The characters and their backgrounds, the flow of the narrative... Everything comes together perfectly! The characters' motivations are understandable. They have a past and a present, as well as visions and plans for the future.
I like the author's style. I'm not usually a fan of First POV, because most of the time I feel that the author is choosing the easier path, perhaps hiding mistakes, and not having to juggle so many storylines or characters. But here, I didn't feel that at all.
Here, the author manages multiple storylines, giving each time to develop, while the characters have their own lives, and we as readers are aware of this and can experience their struggles and journeys, whether external or internal. So far, I really like this story and I look forward to the next chapters. - SultansCurse666Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5I don’t often leave reviews, but the current scores for this stories are well below what they should be, especially the character score.
Ruinous Return is a great twist on isekai stuff because it shows how all of these once-normal earth people deal with not just trauma from the war they were forced to fight, but also the trauma they suffered back on earth. So many of the major characters have suffered through horrible things that have broken them each in different ways, but they are all still human. I believe that this is what the author excels at most in this story, making each character feel like they could be a real person.
In addition to the amazing characters, there is a full spell casting language along with different cultures and peoples that make the setting feel lived in. Also, the uncovering of the world’s history and how all of the world’s “lore” has led up to the events of the story is fascinating.
The story also does a good job of showing the same scenario from multiple perspectives while still having good pacing.
also, minimal spelling/grammar mistakes.
This is one of my favorite stories on RR, and I always look forward to the next chapter. - HollexRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The author has created a magnificent world, quite creative and interesting civilizations, as well as races, although classic (elves, dwarves, beastmen...etc) and other names, but very good background and history.
One of the things I liked the most were the characters. Each one with their motivations, their personality, their tastes and especially their traumas that make them imperfect and for my taste more realistic and interesting whether they are heroes, natives or the protagonist.
Which brings us to the other point that I loved, mana cores, their mechanics and how they affect the user and change them. In essence how their mana cores corrupt the original person and change them, some for the better, some for the worse and some just change.
Clearly living up to the famous quote: "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely."
Now the only two points I didn't like personally and why I don't give it 5 stars.
The first and least important is that the protagonist is active in +18 issues but ‘Sexual content is strictly “fade to black” with nothing explicit.’ and honestly it would have been nice to have some +18 scenes.
This second point is the main reason why it does not have a 5* rating. And it's basically that the protagonist ALWAYS has the moral justification. Without going into details and spoilers, basically every time the protagonist is going to make a morally ambiguous decision something happens that directly resolves the ambiguity and makes it morally right. Honestly for me it feels like forced justifications and I would have liked a morally grey protagonist (with good and bad things).
Below in the spoiler I'll put a couple of cases (logically it's a spoiler and you'll have to read it on your own and risk it)
1. The protagonist's mana core manipulates the protagonist's emotions to rule them all, solution to justify the ambition? It is to create a paradise under her rule, where everyone lives happily, without racism and mistreatment.
2. To conque - BevansRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Good story so far (2 books in) I have really enjoyed the dedication to proper world building. The story feels like its has the good parts of a lit RPG without the excessive numbers or smut. Solid grammer and attention to details, a good amount of action, and no obtrusive writing mistakes. Definitely worth a read.
