Rivera's Repairs: Dungeon Repairwoman
Community Rating
Description
Tess Rivera doesn't need a combat class to survive. She needs one that can fix a dying city. Nineteen-year-old repair technician Tess lives on Tertius-Prime, a crumbling megacity built atop a dungeon that's been "cleared" for twenty years. The Aether barely flows. The power grid fails nightly. Her father's health is declining, and their freighter-home is one broken component away from becoming a coffin. When desperation drives her into the dungeon's outdated tutorial system, it malfunctions. Tess fixes it herself, and accidentally gets branded with a {null} class that no one's ever heard of. No combat skills. No normal leveling. Just the ability to see dungeon code, interface with broken systems, and talk to an AI that's been alone for far too long. Turns out the "cleared" dungeon isn't empty—it's just been abandoned. And Tess's "broken" class might be exactly what's needed to wake it back up. What to Expect: > Progression through crafting/repair, not combat> Wholesome AI companion learning to trust again> Slice-of-life repair jobs building to larger mysteries> Found family and community building> System-light LitRPG with custom skill creation> Science fantasy setting (Dungeon-core meets Dune meets Culture) Comp Titles:Beware of Chicken(cozy competence)The Wandering Inn(slice-of-life, found family)Prophecy Approved Companion(sentient AI learning personhood)Arcane Ascension(crafting progression) [Writeathon 2025 Winner]

I am very pleased with a number of aspects with this story.
The number of times that a multiple chapter arc was teased and then the main character just goes "nope." Frankly, I have all the respect for a character who is both aware that no is a complete sentence and knows how to apply it with out being a jerk.
This story proves the saying that creativity is defined by restrictions. - 16NF7Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Damn….Is what is going through my mind as I caught up to the current chapter. It has been a while for me to get grabbed by a story and then follow along in a voracious urge to keep reading. Take your time and read a few chapters. It’s a nice take on a system with intergalactic travel and dungeons systems. More of the latter and stuff hinted at for later ….maybe… I’m still reading to learn more.
- BadTimingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very promising start, the prose is excellent, and the universe is promising. So far excellent exposition without being lengthy.I am waiting on a few more character introductions, as the two we have so far could get stale after a while on their own, but so far I am hooked.
- Felessan38Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I seem to like stories that I can learn along with the MC and this one does it well. Excellent character interaction with those around her. Solid plot building. It leaves a lot of room to explore further. Wholesome family, to give the tension release. It has left me wanting more for Tess. I can't wait for further issues. Great job, please don't set this one to the side for long.
- ChirovRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The world building is a high point, and I can't wait to see where some of these story elements are going. All of the characters are very well written and have clear voice, the main characters are all super endearing, and even the villainous character is as understandable and relatable as she is evil in her mundanity.
- Dave_5kRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Greatly enjoying the story so far, including extra chapters on Patreon.
I wouldn't particularly agree with the blurb that describes this as "cosy", lots of action and conflict right from the get-go, and continuing throughout book 1. I'd describe it as more of a sci-fi adventure/progression story with LitRPG elements. Even though the main character doesn't have a combat class or any direct combat abilities (at least so far), she manages to get involved in the fringes of far too many conflicts for her own good!
The Dungeon Core AI backstory and ongoing mysterious history leading to the current crippled state have played very well for me. I'm enjoying the exploration of the mystery of what happened in the past to get where they are now, with hints of a much larger conflict in the background, among multi-stellar corporations, aristocratic nobles, guilds, and dungeon AI.
Not caught any issues with grammar, one minor complaint is that while still early we have had relatively limited interaction or development with other characters other than between the main character and the dungeon AI "Bee".
Overall, Rivera's Repair is one of my RoyalRoad favorites with two sympathetic MC's (Rivera and "Bee", the dungeon AI), both with very limited power right now but with lots of room to grow and develop together. - DeathSeekerRRRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like this novel and craving for more but there is no way for me to force author to write fast and do a mass update upto 100 or maybe 200+ chapter in few days. Now about the pros and cons:Pros: The writing is wonderful with lot of technical details that I love, world building kinda nice and cozy and I love the characters so farCons: There is none as of now but I kinda get irritated howsometimes Dungeon or Bee interacts, not in technical aspect but something more raw.
- E. KarklinsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Read this to tag along with a competent character you cheer for and a robot that you feel for. And to explore dungeons of course.
Tess is a great character to follow through the story because not only is she competent from the get-go, but we also get to watch her begin to thrive as she gains access to the magic of the world.
The author does a good job painting the picture of the world she lives in. It’s done without bearing down too heavily about how rough and downtrodden the city is, making it just enough for you to understand what the baseline is as Tess begins to explore. It’s perfect for letting you understand the significance of the repairs Tess can do. Plus the author throws in some occasional flair that helps make the setting his own.
System elements are pleasant to read, a type of logic that feels just different enough while still easy to follow.
Characters in this world feel like real adults that actually live there. I’m sold on that alone. Plus the humour meshes well with the story instead of taking me out of it.
This is a story you'll want to follow. - 4iiiidnerdRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Unfortunately, the brightest light we see in adventure is too often explosive or weapons-laden, maybe with claws, tooth, and power. This story is more about exploration, discovery, learning, repair, configuration. There’s some mystery and opportunities for solid critical thinking. This is a welcome break from “crafters stick to their shop”, and a good introduction so far to the technical side of dungeon delving and city utility design. Refrigerator repair has gone rogue
- HikinBearRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A surprisingly readable story about a talented mechanic who becomes something more. The MC is a stubborn young lady who is more of a Tech Savant with repairing things and following in her father’s footsteps. The MC somehow is gifted a non-class of ‘Null’, which is both powerful and limited.
The world building is good with hints of a deeper, layered world. The environment is a slum with structures around higher class living in higher rings with a ‘Corporation’ being in charge of everything.
An alternate ending for Book 1 might be “No Good Deed goes unpunished”. The MC saving the life of a Nobel sets off a chain of events and sets her up for Book 2.
The Pacing is good and the characters are excellent. I recommend this!
