- HWPerfidyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story: We follow a mercenary named Venysa who works for the king. I’ll try not to reveal too many spoilers, but essentially, she suffers from a lot of guilt and the burden of her past. The story seems to be going in the direction of overcoming these difficulties and making amends, and I’m excited to see how the author executes this.
Worldbuilding is done well, giving us some details interspersed in between so that a world with dragons (or a world once filled with dragons) and poisonous ores and magic is slowly unravelled to us. It gives off a sense of mystery and leaves the reader hungering for more details, while avoiding the problem of infodumping.
Style: The writing style is very elegant, with plenty of vivid descriptions painting a picture of what happens in the story. Emotions are described really well,
Pacing is a bit fast for my tastes, but otherwise the story flows well and is comfortable to read.
Character: Characters have really distinct personalities, making it easy to tell them apart just from their dialogue alone. You can easily get ahold of what they’re like just from their behaviour and the way they talk, which is something I appreciate. Venysa’s struggles are also very well written, diving deep into her internal struggles and her regrets from her past.
Personally though, it felt like I didn’t have the time to get acquainted with Venysa before we’re dropped into situations that shake her resolve. Since I didn’t really know her as a character before the twist happened, I felt less empathetic than I might have been after witnessing her despair at the realisation.
Grammar: No mistakes that I could see
Overall: A really good start. I really enjoyed reading it! - gushyRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5To preface: This is apart of a review swap.

Overall: Queen of Dragons starts off really well, especially compared to other fics in Royal Road. It's definitely above the level of quality you'd expect and I was pleasantly surprised. This is a personal preference, but while I would not read this genre, I can definitely see the appeal to those who do enjoy a female MC struggling in a really dreary world.
Style: This falls back to what I had said earlier: the style's there (in first person) and you have the MC's thoughts against the rather depressing story. Though, while I believe the gloomy tone sometimes gets too much, it's really a matter of preference. I don't have any major complaints about the style, and I believe the author uses 1st person POV well.
Grammar: Yeah, I mean, grammar's good. Nothing to say here.
Story: The story comes to us in pieces, which is always a wonderful thing for an author to use because it builds the story and doesn't leave us with exposition dumps. I was constantly intrigued by the MC's past and what had happened all those years ago. I'm also wondering how the romance subplot will fit in (since the author advertised that on the review swap thread lol).
Character: The character work is great, though I will say this is only the first few chapters. We didn't have that much time (web serial wise) with them but they are obviously developed to a point. I had a few gripes, sometimes I wanted a little bit more from the supporting cast, but it's been good. I'm wondering how the MC will change throughout the course of the story, and I hope she doesn't remain moody for the entire thing (though since the romance subplot exists, she will probably change).
All in all, poggers.
