Description
To survive as an alien tyrant's husband, he'll need to grab his new life by the horns. A late shift watching an empty cell in a middle-of-nowhere facility? Sign Grant up. If the money's good, he'll gladly take the peace and quiet of a long, boring night. And then he meets the prisoner: Subject B-31. Blue, beautiful, and inhuman. He's told to think of her as a test subject, not a person. He's told to ignore the sorrow on her face and the desperation in her crimson eyes. Maybe he should have listened. Because his rescue attempt quickly turns into an alien abduction. B-31 is Sykora, a princess of the tyrannical Taiikari Empire, who whisks Grant into a galaxy filled with alien cultures, deadly rivals, and the sinister smiles of the Taiikari royal court. Grant will have to learn a new life, and learn it fast. Because when the Princess of the Void looks at Grant, she doesn't just see a savior—she sees a husband. And she isn't asking. This story contains mature themes, explicit sexual content (though scenes have been censored for the RR release, with links provided to the full versions) and occasional graphic violence. It’s not suitable for readers under 18. Updates M and F. The writing is good and free of grammatical errors and the scenes with the couple are very good and exciting. - FeorlasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Amazing story so far. A nice deep-dive in Interstellar cultural differences, and how that can influence 'stuff' in subtle and overt ways. The scales rise believably with each volume, with enough downtime in between to explore the developing relationships between main and side characters.I am looking forward to future chapters, eager to read more of the cute blue aliens (with mind control powers and murder-plots and backstabbing and fish lovers and more)
- Brother_GeoffreyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0RR is a venture in searching, there is a quantity of books on here that are amateurish, or drag on or are not up to a higher standard. PoTV is not one of them.
I am a writer myself, I understand the craft and all the little things happening behind the scenes. I see each scene tick and each chapter walk.
Would I recommend this peice? Absolutely.
The first volume is my favourite, the romance, the characters, the questions and promises are all done very well. From there I was hooked as Dukerino dragged everyone through his universe, it's complexities, the interesting subtle details that let's the reader imagine more and more on their own.
If you want a good read, a fun read that doesn't shy away from sex or hide it behind a paywall then this is for you. If it isn't for you read.it anyway cause the sci-fi universe that the author had built is fascinating and a fun take on an intergalactic empire, one that isn't purely antagonistic.
This is for the author:
Take us back to earth, I'm still waiting for that fun culture shakeup that you promised and set up. Dangling a human here or a culture question there is well and good, but im hungry for more. Not to presume but I'm guessing the 4th volume is going to dip into that realm.
Also let me know if want a beta reader, or someone who can give you decent critiques and a perspective that knows the craft.
Overall:
This is a diamond in the rough, grab it, read it, enjoy it.
Finding professional quality work that doesn't drag on this site is a welcome addition to a readers repertoire.
Read this book. It's peak. - CommanderZhoraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The growing love between the main characters, the pov changes showing insight into their thoughts where all we had before was alien gibberish, the very well done, yet so subtle it’s almost imperceptible differences in ideology, theology and plain thought processes between alien species. It’s simply fantastic. You start off relating to the characters only to slowly have the wool dragged off your eyes to realize that yes, the aliens are trulyalien, the whole time. It’s wonderful how the characters have dynamic mindsets without falling into the old trope of humans dressed like aliens. They think, they believe, they act, different.Because they are. It’s a lovely blend of ideas, romance, and the underlying tone of resistance is not only futile, but ridiculous in the way an ant, or even a dozen ant colonies, killing a dragon is simply laughable. The Empire is eternal, not because they say they are, but because they have bent the galaxy to their will and now theyareeternal. In the same vein, Grant and Kora aren’t breaking the mold because it’s a nice ideal, because they are bending the status quo to their will and making their ideal a reality, not through fighting, not wholly anyway, but because their dedication is unbreakable. I love the characters, I love their struggles and growth. I love the world building and I frankly wish that this series was published because it would be on my shelf next to Dune and Shakespeare. Fantastic.
- CrunchRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've been following this series for a while as it releases on Scribblehub. It's a fun sci-fi series in itself, but it's also one of the few that actually bothers to examine the potential subtleties of an interstellar empire, where Good isn't always Nice and Nice isn't always Good. Grant and Sykora maintain a strong dynamic, being in many ways opposites but coming together to support each other. Sometimes, glassing a moon from orbit really is the correct decision. The author has shown themselves to have a fascination with music in previous stories which continues in Princess, which adds a lot of character even for someone like myself who is basically a musical dunce. I also appreciate the handling of Religion in the series. Far too many series either ignore it outright, or fall into uninteresting and disrespectful cliches. This series only touches lightly on it, but actually tries to take a nuanced approach, which is unfortunately rare.Great characters, great plot, occasionally lewd. Highly recommended. I don't like the weird shark people character design.
- Ashley_Assless_ChapsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This has been a fun story to read so far, in the relatively early stages. Male-focused romances are a pretty niche genre here, but it's nice to see a well-written story in that area. The science fiction side of things is also more interesting than the usual Kindle Unlimited fare. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
- DunimonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0All right, stream of conscious time:
Grammar is impeccable I see only one error about maybe every three to five chapters, and it's usually a style choice over a typo.
Character is a progressive and growing thing here. If you can't tell from the synopsis, this is a romance. It makes sense that the lovebirds are so focused on each other that you don't get a sense of the other characters as fast or as well. Without spoiling too much, characters are fleshed out eventually. The lovebirds are written well and I look forward to seeing them grow as people. If you've ever read a Sherrilyn Kenyon romance, this is already better than her middling works in some ways.
Style is pretty generic as far as these things go, but you're not here for the prose; you're here for the concepts. First Contact on a personal level and romance. There's so much subtext that's so easy to miss. I was initially concerned about where things would go once the first contact feel died down, but it didn't have a chance to before it renewed.
Storywise, it's good (see post script). Fresh. Some people may be against how un-alien the aliens are, but I think it's fine where it is. As the story progresses, we are finding more and more details that put alien motive behind human seeming decisions. Given the author's previous work, Wife after Death, I can understand the desire to not make the aliens too inhuman. It's restrictive to make a raunchy romance feel real when you make the aliens too abstract. I would heavily recommend everyone (even the author!) to read this book and then go read C.J. Cherry's Foreigner series. Foreigner is a political thriller/space opera that makes very alien aliens while doing its romance exquisitely.
TLDR: book is good, there is much book; go read this book 😉
P.S.
I want to preface this by disclaiming that I am not a writer. I've just been reading for a long time. This is NOT a dig at our Supreme Leader Wonderfully Cherished Author.
I call this book good because of the medium and th - ElohaitRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm honestly not sure what I was expecting going into this, but it is honestly a genuinely entertaining story. Part alien abduction, part romance, part Empire builder? It is an exceedingly unusual mix of genres, but it applies them all with a surprising deftness.Grant is an entertaining heart to the plot (both literally as the POV and metaphorically), and his attempts to get a handle on being a member of an amoral intergalactic empire made up of mind controlling cat/bat demon aliens is very entertaining. Even more so that when he starts to get a handle on one situation, he's often directly shipped off to another, whether it's another unique alien culture, or the intricacies of navigating politics or just a good old fashioned annexation. The story is progressing well so far and arcs don't drag on overlong, Grant's immediate goals change and evolve as the story proceeds, and better yet some of his earlier goals or assumptions sometimes fail or are totally altered when he discovers that there's more nuances to the situation he's in.The writing style and grammar is perfectly serviceable, I'm not going to wax poetic about prose but it tells a story in a competent manner. I can't say that I've noticed any egregiously bad syntax, and that's good enough for me.I think really what makes this stand out, is that it almost feels like it should be bad? I don't even mean that as a legitimate criticism, you describe a series about a guy being abducted by an extremely attractive alien princess who demands him as her husband and you might expect it to be shallow wish-fulfillment, but it's so much more than it could be.Alien cultures feel genuinely alien and are strangely well thought out, you're not going to be reading about humans but red or humans but blue, but interesting ideas on what alien races could be like.. and how they would be if forced under the thumb of an implacable authoritarian empire intent on controlling the known universe.Series has plenty of vigorously described
- FaintDiagramRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A thoroughly great scifi romance read with great devlopment of the two main characters.
A good development of the relationship dynamics between the main characters as the story progresses, showing how the the plot and actions taken by the cast have an effect on the point of view characters and how it changes them over time.
A good escalation of personal stakes that does well in balancing between how the stakes of the story escalate both for the main characters and for the setting as a whole.
Definitely looking forward to readming more as it comes out. - Foxbat40Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is about a man who is down on his luck who ends up taking a new job that isn't quite what it seems.
If you have seen Ex Machina the movie, then you know that to expect but that doesn't ruin the plot. So many things happen from battles of will, narrow escapes to political intrigue.
If you like romance and space based science fiction then this is the book for you.
It is not a harem.
It is not an empire builder or a LITRPG.
It is a story about complex people making the best of a tricky situationship.
It has some violence and discussions of sex and some sex scenes but that isn't the focus of this story.
This story builds a vibrant world consisting of an interstellar empire run by a very busy empress who is aided by nobles that often have to sacrifice freedom for power. It has multidimensional characters that interact and talk like real people. They don't just deliver lines.
Each chapter is a surprise and a joy to read.
