Description

On the war-torn world of Terra, where magic, might, and memory shape destiny, a displaced soul awakens in a new body with nothing but his fists and fragments of a forgotten past. Born again into a land divided by nations, affinities, and ancient secrets, Marcus must navigate shifting alliances, corrupt academies, and the rising tide of a force older than civilization itself.

Gifted with a power unlike any other—but bound by the fear of losing himself to it—Marcus trains alongside warriors, scholars, and outcasts in hopes of finding purpose beyond survival. As dungeons grow restless and the balance of power teeters on the edge, one question echoes louder than all others:

Can strength build a future... or only break what's left?

Power of a Pugilist is a character-driven epic that blends martial arts, magical systems, and evolving political intrigue in a world where fighting isn’t just a means to an end—it’s how you define who you are.

I've always been a fan of monks and other brawler archetype characters, so I hoped this would be a new fun read. Unfortunately, only a few chapters in and I'm struggling to move forward.
The writing is generally fine, but the author makes some odd choices that would hopefully be resolved by either an editor or even just a few minutes of thought. This is a LitRPG, which means stats and systems. Fine. But in the most recent chapter I read, these stats are listed as written numbers. For example:
    Strength: three
Why would someone do this?! It combines the worst part of LitRPG and non-LitRPG.
Additionally, the exposition in this story is rough. The main character is isekai'd and immediately gets a full breakdown of the world effectively read out loud to him by the first people he meets, including stuff that most people would learn in their early childhood. If you're going to have a character do a full explanation of the world that a toddler should have learned, have the divine doing the isekai process do it. At least that divine actually has a valid reason to do so. Otherwise, show the audience over time instead.
In short, there's some potential and I may revisit it and revise this review when I do, but for now it drastically needs an editor.

First three chapters have standard numbers for stats, fourth onwards it will try to gouge your eyes, with the written numbers in letters instead of numbers, honestly it made me feel unwell, Italian when you write something in such a bizarre way that makes you feel like throwing up. I dig the idea but I'm not gonna let you dig my eyes, with your choice of writing.
