I will start off by saying i've seen some episodes of Pokémon, know who Ash, Misty and Brock are and have a general idea on some of the names that come up in the story, and so far i would say that if the script i've read so far would become animated it certainly would have made it to season 4.
I can also admit that i've read a couple other Pokémon stories on RR so i'm starting to get an idea on both the "main" story and that of some of the games, to my understanding, this story follows the animated story which i suppose means a wider target-audience and so far i would say it hits the highlights of the story as well as incorporating some lore from other parts, making this story somewhat educational.
The protagonist is likeable as well as relatable, so understanding his thoughts and actions are not a problem.
The story itself is fluent, as in you won't experience sudden "stutters" like when an author have gone back and forth on an idea for a chapter, if anything it seems to be polished to a degree that i've seen many stories fall short of on RR.
of the 17 chapters so far, you get a good length of text (apparently 347 pages), that is also paced well.
If i were to accuse the author of anything, it would have to be "this is not on of their first stories"

This story is well written and detailed without being to detailed. Like a good Pokemon story should be it focuses on Ethan's journey keeping it real but limiting the angst. Follows more the Anime then the games or Manga while making changes because the MC is there.
The MC is likeable, but not a pushover.
The story is fairly light while still interesting.
Grammar is very good better then most on this site.
