I thoroughly enjoyed how calm and controlled this chapter feels. It doesn’t try to rush into action, but somehow that makes everything more tense. The opening pulled me in straight away. The manner in which you depicted the harbor, the wind, the noise, and the activity conveyed a sense of authenticity, as if I were simply standing there observing it all unfold. You didn’t overdo it, which made it easy to picture without feeling slowed down.Laskaris stood out to me the most. I like how you wrote him; he feels careful and experienced, the kind of person who’s always thinking but doesn’t show everything on the surface. The way he observes instead of reacting loudly says a lot about him, and I think that’s one of your strengths here.I also liked how you introduced Katarina through other people’s eyes. That was a really smart move. Instead of just telling us it’s impressive, you let usfeelit through their reactions, and it made the ship feel important without forcing it.The dialogue was another strong point. It felt purposeful, like everyone were measuring their words. Palamede and Dorino especially felt real; you can sense the difference between them without it being pushed too hard. There’s this quiet tension in their conversations that I think you handled really well.If I had to point out a few small things as a beta reader:There are moments where the descriptions stack a bit too close together, especially at the start. The writing itself is good, but trimming just a little in a few spots could help the flow feel even smoother.I also noticed some repetition in dialogue tags like “he said." It’s not a big issue, but switching a few of those with small actions or letting the dialogue stand on its own could make it feel more natural. And in some parts, the political or strategic information comes in a bit dense. It’s interesting, but you might make it even stronger by breaking it up with small character reactions or movement, just to keep the scene breathing. What I really

Great alternative history story. The pacing is great, the exposition is great. Everything that you'd want from a story of where someone who goes back into history and the effect that person would have on their time. Amazing on how much historical authenticity is added in the characters present, in the cities, in the culture, etc.
If there is a quibble, and it a minor one, it's that I think the author thinks the best of people and in my opinion writes a story where the "NPCs" are too accepting of the changes the main character brings in. I tend to think people are more cowardly and too entrenched and too enamoured of the status quo thought history.

Honestly surprised by the amount of historical detail in this story. Classic A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court trope (maybe with transmigration isekai style  but still, mark twain did it first) but extremely well done.
That's not the key here, its the historical accuracy, the willingness to not to the dumb "im not an engineer or a steel expert but i can clearly change gunpowder and metallurgy in this era just by force of will" or the dumb "apply 21st century values to middle age people".
The level of detail the stories gets on greece in the 15th century, politics in the area and in rome, the power of venice, etc is simply awesome. Who would have thought you could actually come out of a story knowing a lot more about history than before you started.
The power of ideas, of culture and how the mc does understand that kind of stuff is also very interesting, also the printing press is a key development in the story.
Overall a 100% worthwhile story that will entertain and educate you.

Story pacing and world building is immaculate. The historical knowledge and accuracy by the author is nothing short of phenomenal, able to integrate even some of the most unknown figures from the period and really give them a personality. You can really tell that the author cares for this work through the sheer quality of writing, easily one of if not the best novels I've had the privilege of reading.

This has blown my mind ! I see so many "modern guy transplanted to medieval society" stories, but it's so often in another world, or another universe where the writer can make it up.Here, it's to a very well known period, which adds so much challenge, as well as requires a profound interest in History ! The consequences of the actions of the MC on the world can be easily seen, as we KNOW what would have happened otherwise. We can also imagine what these changes would have had on our own society ; a printing press a century in advance, modern (period) weapons in the early 15th, ... It also shows how many things are simple things that people didn't consider. The use of paper cartridges, for example, accelerated the process of reloading so much, and seems so evident and yet it took a long time to develop, ...All in all great story, great character, great research on history and attempt at an alternative one. I related so much to the MC when he realised that he was living at the same time as Jean of Arc was liberating France, I really enjoy having these realisations of things happening at the same time in history.

Thanks for the original fiction, I actually lost the link when I first read this and had to run around in wikipedia trying to figure out the characters names so I could find the story again. 6 stars. lets hope the hexamillion wall stands up better this time. With the fall of constinople being the stone that starts the avalaunch of exploration from the european powers and the colonization of the next 400 years this story is at a critical juncture in world history.

This novel has been different in a great way.  Lacking all the usual power tropes of isekai.  It seems very historically accurate while demonstrating the brutality of the time.  The main character is forced to utilize his people due to his lack of cheats.  It is also refreshing to see the main character suffer real loss and struggle with his mixed identity.

The Western barbarians and Eastern hordes have fought to snuff out the eternal flame of Rome since time immemorial. Now, the last embers of Rome smolder in the Morea, where the fall of our Emperor to the Turkic hordes would seal an unthinkable fate. But Constantine Palaiologos, he who is called the Last Emperor, carries the blood of Rome itself. Though Constantinople may fall, the spirit of the Senate and the People of Rome endures--IMMORTAL!
Audite! Do you hear it? The legions rally once more, the clash of gladii and scutum, the resounding cry of our ancestors from Elysium! Rome was not built in a day, nor shall she die while her spirit endures. From the seven hills to the Hagia Sophia, from Caesar to Constantine, our legacy is history itself. Every column toppled, every mosaic shattered, every aqueduct now barren, we vow to rebuild a hundredfold!
We will not rest until the eagle soars again over the Bosphorus and the Tiber. In the name of Constantine XI, in the spirit of the legions, and in honor of the Senate and People of Rome, we pledge to reclaim our lands and restore our rightful place as the Empire of the world.
For Rome, for Constantinople, for the Emperor!
