Description
A reverse-isekai following a relatively wholesome protagonist in a dark urban fantasy world, attempting to remain optimistic in the face of calamity.
Ludo Edkeis, third-ring paladin of the Shining Goddess, was the last living human on Allara. Over the centuries, mankind had gradually lost their battle against their ancestral foes.
Born near the end of the conflict as a dual high-affinity lightning and metal mage, Ludo was considered an unfortunate cripple: the metal reserves on his planet had been drained to nearly nothing by past generations, leaving him useless unless the Goddess blessed the battlefield with a thunderstorm. In such rare moments of glory, they called him Allara's Tear.
When he is finally permitted to die, he expects to be reunited with his loved ones. Instead he finds his soul shoved into the body of a Bay Area socialite known as Johnny Parish, to continue the good fight in a completely new land.
But this new, modern world brims with electricity. The people can harvest and refine metals of devastating quality, and forge them into even more devastating weapons. He is not alone either---the Goddess has reincarnated the lost souls of others from his homeland, though not all are pleased to learn their fealty must continue even after death.
Once the danger passes, many cherished friends and loved ones have been waiting a long time for Ludo to walk amongst them in paradise. More than anything, he does not wish to keep them waiting much longer.

- CelesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm really curious for this novel! Ikal has written a book already, which is a really damn good story, but so very dark and depressing. Not an easy afternoon stroll of a read (but worth it!!).
Now, we have... Playboy. Paladin. I am sooo looking forward to the goofiness along with the usual heavy prose of Ikal! Plus, it's a reverse isekai. That's the first time I've heard of that idea.
I'm so along for the ride! - MDWRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Note: This is not a review swap. I don't do review swaps.
.
The first scene is almost a joke hook,
A Paladin and a Demon from another world enter a Starbucks.
Except the Paladin is a proper Paladin, polite, wise, commesurate. A gentleman. And he's here to save the world. But boy, oh, boy, those fantasy lads will suffer with our modern world.
The choice of first person was excellent. We get intimate with the MC's thoughts and get a first-row seat to his troubles adapting to our world. The fact it starts with interpersonal drama was an excellent choice to showcase MC's personality straight away.
And the MC Paladin doesn't disappoint. We see his skills in conflict resolution and values in action, then a wild enemy appears.
Style Score: There's some very minor slips here and there but it is consistent and very pleasant.
Story score: The story is evolving very well. I find my curiosity stoked and each chapter deepens the plot and entices the reader to seek the next chapter.
Grammar score: It is very good. I think a few phrase choices are a bit off, but that's the author's personal choices. Perhaps it is on me for not noticing why those choices were made.
Character score: Perfect. The characters are well-drawn, they have personalities, motivations, and feel believable. The Paladin is the Paladin I wished my DnD players would make.
