- TechnoByteRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Phantom Star is a refreshing sci-fi adventure that stands out not just for its action-packed space battles, but also for its unique, well-developed protagonist. The main character is clever and resourceful, with impressive tech skills that make her both relatable and admirable as she tackles challenges beyond mere shootouts. The ship itself isn't just a tool for space fights; it has a rich role in cargo missions, adding layers of realism to the futuristic setting. The AI companion, Crabbit, brings humor and charm to the story, making it easy to get attached to both the crew and the ship itself. For fans of sci-fi who crave a balance of character depth and tech-savvy action, Phantom Star is a delight.

I think it is mostly that the story is just good fun, a sort of old school adventure story in a sci fi setting. It is not what you would call hard sci-fi, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. - BorgsoraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love the story, how it is described and how we can feel the emotion of the mc and even in the side character, it vividly tells the ideas, dialogue and setting but without being too detailed, everything happens every second giving a good rhythm to the plot and even the setbacks they are good, worth reading and thank you to the writer for the effort.
- yaroto98Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Far too many space opera military scifi out there. I'm sick of all the saluting and military porn. Gimme more scrapper civilians!
Love the space battles, love the lone MC, don't hate the AI (most of ai are just plain annoying and tropey). This one is just light hearted comedic relief. - Ennui R The ChampionsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really enjoy this story! The main character is endearing and I am easily invested in finding out how Kat's story shakes out.
I also really enjoy the writing style. The execution is light and agile. I move through the prose smoothly and easily. The word choice is superb. It conveys what is needed artfully without becoming purple. Likewise, the dialogue is pleasant. It has a good, natural flow and doesn't ever seem wooden or unrealistic.
I really enjoy this story and I hope the author can keep providing this enjoyable read. - Haru Desu KattoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An enjoyable story with a simple premise and plenty of fun. So far, I'm having a great time, and I can't wait to see what happens next.
Style - The text flows well making it easy to read and pushing the plot forward. There are frequent time skips, but it fits well into this type of story.
Grammar - Nothing serious enough to detract from the reading, so it won't affect my overall rating. Even so, it needs an editor. There are frequent comma errors, words that don't fit the meaning, plus the organization of paragraphs is a little rushed. Regardless, I don't care, but it may annoy some readers.
Story - The premise is enjoyable, the plot is moving along quickly, and I have no complaints. I appreciate that it doesn't jump between viewpoints too often, just enough to inform the reader of what the MC doesn't see herself.
Character - The MC is fascinating, with several clear flaws, some of which are unknown to herself. An excellent example of a focused gearhead, and I've known several, so I get it! The other human characters aren't well defined yet. I wish we had more interactions, but the MC is too focused on things - not people, so it makes sense. The exception are the bots, who are sortof the second most important character? Hehe... - Hikari30Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style, story, grammar are all good, but there's something missing from the main character, namely adaptability (as in her weakness not to learn how to do ground combat or combat in general).
I know mark of a good main character's aren't their ability to ace everything (Mary sue), but their flaws that made them somewhat relatable in some aspect, but what she (MC) lacks is the ability to adapt to situations & environment's like the obvious glaring issue of lacking ground combat abilities whether it's her drone armada near useless when they're in affect of the gravity of a planet or their lack of weaponry, MC lack of combat training and experience leading to an act of cowardice in the perspective of us readers although im not judging the MC as she was reincarnated from a peaceful environment of Earth (which is understandable and made sense). But again, these issues can be resolved by having the MC realize that the universe that she's currently in isn't the same as Earth and be motivated enough to learn to get rid of said weakness while still having a negative trait or two (seemingly antisocial, etc).
That's all, cant wait for the future chapters :) - IvolucienRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So good! Nothing negative to say. Everything I think to write here boils down to "more please!"
The MC is charming in an awkward, nerdy way, and the other characters are gaining depth as the story progresses. I'm at chapter 11, and checking for updates. Gadgeteer Genius adjacent, but with empathy. - firehorseRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A great little sci fi space series.
I read this after running out of Ghost in the City.
It has the potential to span the galaxy like Sublight Drive (Star Wars).
The characters are still finding their feet and direction with a very small team being built up.
The stars of the show are the crabbits!
There nothing to stop Katherine taking over the whole galaxy with enough of them 😁
I found this a fun read and it's RED, RED, RED for Seras if this get dropped!!! - farsight13Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0By chapter 1, I am hooked. Good composition, nice setting, interesting characters, and a great story so far. I can tell that "Phantom Star" is going to be a hit and I will, one day I am going to set a pre-order for the audiobook. What really brings the story together is the mysterious song of the "calling". That drive that makes the main character want to venture into the unknown. Also Crabbit...the lovable drone/bot that steals everyone heart. I can't wait to read more.
