Path of Power [Magic School LitRPG]

Description
Modern Earth already had mages and monsters, but now it's getting a system...
Alfie is an ordinary young man living an ordinary life London, until the true nature of reality hits him like a ton of bricks. Magic is bloody real. Supernatural creatures live and breathe. Arcane Academies exist. And Alfie's got a personal invitation to one. Except this academy has a secret. Its true purpose is more intriguing (and, if Alfie’s honest, more awesome), than he could have ever imagined. But learning how to harness the system and cavorting with his fellow mages is merely the beginning of Alfie’s journey.
The world of this story has a system that is superimposed over a “hidden magical world” urban fantasy. Imagine your favorite magical school story where the powers-that-be decide to up the ante by changing the fabric of reality so that magic now operates according to LitRPG style rules.
This story might be reminiscent of certain other magic school adventures, but it has its own twists. It’s a tribute to those stories, but with an older and (somewhat) more mature cast. There are elements of isekai, urban fantasy, magical academy, and good old fashioned British comedy. There’s action, progression, intrigue, humor, and a little slice of (magical) life.

- FerociousFutilityRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The author's style is very pleasing -- he portrays the cast's particular brand of intense, but not far-fetched London-speak well and his chapters flow naturally from start to finish.
So far, the story's set-up feels fairly open; it could end up as a generic, if better-than-average YA clone or it could really distinguish itself into something beyond its LitRPG/Harry Potter roots. - NickLStoriesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Path of Power follows Alfie Turner's initiation into a magical world, where he undergoes training to become a battlemage. Along the way, he encounters colorful characters, makes new friends, and picks up a neat collection of spells.
Character: Though the main character has a few naïve moments as he is completely new to magic, he is earnest, resilient, and competent enough to make sound decisions. The supporting cast so far is likeable enough, though only the main character's 'sidekick' and mentor figure have undergone notable development at this point.
Style: The story is set in the UK, so it is distinctly English in its vernacular, but not so much that the average North American reader can't understand what's going on. The prose is also fantastic; rich and vivid without being purple and suffocating. It brings to the story's setting to life in a vibrant fashion and makes the entire reading experience rich and rewarding.
Story: The story is in its early stages so far, but it is well-paced, with equal parts action and narration, and brings an intriguing twist to the magical school trope. So far, I believe it deserves 5 stars, as I'm eager to read more and find out what's going to unfold.
Grammar: So far, I have not seen any glaringly significant grammatical issues. Path of Power is well-written and well-edited. - OmniextRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It might be a bit preemptive, but I give this five stars. A prologue that sucks you in and keeps you interested and a fairly unique take on both a litrpg and a magic school. Somewhat less of the latter, but still.
STYLE: 5/5
I personally really liked the word choice here. I know very well how hard it is to get people speaking like they're actually from a different setting and not just Earth. The accents are heavy, but it just adds more to the story, I think. The only con I can think of is that some parts might not make sense if you're not that fluent in English– I needed to rely on context clues a lot. Or maybe that's just me.
STORY: 5/5
So far, I'm liking it. The introduction of the MC into the world is good weird, but besides that I don't have much to say. It's too early to say if I'll keep enjoying it into the future, but I have high hopes.
GRAMMAR: 5/5
No mistakes that I noticed. If there were, they were probably there for flavor.
CHARACTER: 5/5
Again, this is a tentative rating. So far, everyone has their own distinguishable voice, which is great. Focusing on the MC– I would like to say that I like him. I do like how he's written, human, naive and believable, but I have an inkling that he's going to be the type of MC that I don't like to read. Which won't stop me from reading and it's personal preference, but I don't tend to like characters that can't see what's in front of them.
I am referring to the part where he thinks that the introduction to the academy– the parts that were going really hard on 'this is a military focused school'– were just bluffs, essentially. It's a tiny part, but it annoys me. - ThatGuyKoolsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Definitely felt like a Hogwarts reboot, but without the Dursleys, Voldemort (as yet) and a flying motorcycle and a lightning scar. The author paints a picture for those of us who've never been to London and I hope someone who has can let me know how spot on the descriptions are. Most of all the story flows and while it's still early I'm really looking forward to seeing where the story goes so hurry up with the chapters please I'd like to experience going to a magical school for the second time in my life.
