Description
The world is in a state of turmoil and upheaval. Religious fanatics hailing from the desert city-state of Kenan have completed a war of conquest against their neighbors, the ancient kingdom of Forelia. The Forelian capital has been razed to the ground and looted, its people sold into slavery.
Gideon is a skilled warrior fighting for the Singing Blades, a mercenary warband led by Gideon's father, who have been contracted by the Kenanite king to fight on his behalf. When the Singing Blades are annihilated on a patrol, Gideon is cast adrift to find new purpose in a world bereft of justice.
But fate has taken notice of him. He is destined to meet and train the woman who will restore balance to the world, at the point of a sword.
Cold steel will shed gallons of red blood in this novel about bravery and the cost of heroism.

- AnodyneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Origin of Evil is a story with action and adventure components, and intriguing themes arising throughout: the realities of violence, the meaning of courage, and perseverance, strength, and compassion in the face of a bleak, uncaring world.
Style: Third person past tense, highly readable prose with fantastic action sequences, compelling dialogue, and highly atmospheric descriptions of setting. There are small hiccups here and there, but I only notice on account of providing requested edit suggestions and they should not detract from the experience for readers not going back over the text with a fine-toothed comb.
Story: A kingdom has fallen. People are dying, and others are enslaved. A world-weary mercenary has his few ties cut loose and thus embarks upon a journey—the effects ripple from thereon outwards. It's a little tricky to picture the full scope of the story at this point in time, but judging by the summary, there are some great things to come.
Grammar: Not much to say other than the fact that there are few to no spelling and grammar mistakes (and if there are, they're swiftly rectified by the author).
Character: The characters are great fun to read about, with their strengths, weaknesses, flaws and all. Gideon is far more nuanced than the surly swordfighter I first assumed him to be, and the same goes for a certain former princess who shows up in due time.
5/5 would recommend, give it a go if unsure. - Basket of SnakeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love this story thus far, protag is his own (rude) character and the entire story just oozes worldbuilding, promise, and chapters to come. Almost perfect grammer, which is always great to see. Excellent story thus far with some opening moves in a longterm plot. Not sure what to put for style tbh? Characters are the only gripe I have, it feels like the MC gets pushed around and guilt tripped a lot, still a five star review, I just personally don't like it the most when an MC gets pushed around in (IMO) unneeded and unjustified ways. Mind you I still love the characters, none feel like a caracature or stereotype, or just unnecessarily stupid person for no reason, and they are all nuanced and flawed, in other words, they feel like people. To be fair, however, its only got 25 chapters at the time of me posting this and the character list is short, fleshed out characters shorter. This is all to be expected with a fiction in such an early stage, and it's frankly impressive that the story and characters already have me invested enough to write a review. Once a week upload which is slow-but-not-too-slow depending on the chapter length (In my explerience this story has middle of the road length chapters) but remember that the author has a life too (crazy, right?)
- mytus123Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Nice story with mostly likable characters, there is quite a bit of action which surprised me positively and the story doesn't shy from grimdark vibe which is the key point for me. There is definitely more positive aspects to mention here, but you can read about them in other 5 star reviews.
There is one or two things tho, that I have an issue with and it might help some people with their questions about this story.
Firstly, I was expecting more meaningful adventure from the beginning before we started FL's main plot, after all the ML is mercenary so for some reason I had that expectation, nothing really serious but a thing worth to mention. The second issue is actually with ML, until the chapter 38th he seemed to be a bit 'slow'? He didn't learn from any of his past mistakes, neither improved his character or at least tried to be a bit smarter with all the surrounding schemes... at some point it started to feel like a waste of time, since he didn't make any progress... tho I need to say it might start to change from that point, chapter 39th seems to be the light at the end of the tunnel, I hope that's the beginning of a meaningful character growth for our ML.
Story is definetly good and for sure worth spending time on.
