A short story where you follow Morgan an island boy who's village was attacked by wizards who wielded the power of Demi gods. Upon near death Morgan is ressurrected by the island and given power to take it back but in the end the island will require a sacrifice

“They are gods. They cannot be killed. They can only be pleaded with.” This line is absolutely legendary. I’m not entirely sure of everything that’s going on, there some things I wish had more detail like the description of the Mavens. They’re only described as “Shadow Beasts” and I don’t think leaving them intentionally vague would enhance the text. But this has so glorious dialogue writing for sure.
