Description

Book 1 is stubbed and available on KU.

Being reborn as a blood-lusting dhampyr is just the first of Nye's problems.

The cursed shield that's strapped itself to their arm and refuses to let go is the next most pressing issue. And when the magic system designates them as a Knight, who must protect a helpless and awkward prince or consequently be driven mad, Nye has just about had it.

But their little brother has also been reincarnated in this world, and given the giant monsters that stalk the nearby sand dunes, Nye fears the worst. They're willing to use any of the new tools at their disposal totrack their brother down and ensure he's safe—even if that means working with the blood-thirsty demon shield and hapless illusionist regent they're bound to protect.

What you can expect from this story:- A shield user (not a sword wielder or mage: pretty much just defense/support)- Dhampyrs (they're vampires that are born, not turned. Yes, there will be blood and biting)- A giant demonic shield that just wants some blood, that's all, it's not asking for much- Action, adventure, and fights with giant monsters- A slow burn relationship (but no harem or smut)- Queer characters (the MC is non-binary, and there are other enby, lesbian, and gay characters too)

Note: This is a spin-off of the seriesGlass Kanin. You don't have to have read Kanin in order to read and enjoy this one, but you might catch some clues if you do!

Nye is absolutely incredible in how they grow as a person without feeling like they lose any of what they started with. They aren’t really educated or particularly advanced in how they adapt to their world, taking most of the time they’re in the world to get into the habit of relying on the incredible knowledge that Echo provides access to, but showing a dedication to maintaining their body that is honestly enviable.
Going with that, they also don’t develop new spells particularly, but do learn to use their spells that they have to a moderate degree that feels appropriate for someone that is on their back foot about being open to magic.
    I can’t wait for more!

Starting off and I'm all ready enticed. The characters seem fluid, and the plot is thickening. Grammar and style are flawless, its a pleasure to read. This story no doubt matches up in quality with Kia Leep's other stories, and i am on the edge of my seat waiting for more.

Kia Leep continues to pump out solid gold. I'm hooked, and there aren't even any lesbians. (...yet?)
Nye and their brother drown, then Nye wakes up in a desert, sans brother, melanin, and humanity. They'd search for their brother, but they're required to protect some nerdy prince guy or go insane.
Nye may not have agency, but they do have a kick-ass shield! I'd call the shield conceited except it actually seems to be able to back up its bragging. It's also a bit bloodthirsty, but so is Nye, so things seem like they'll work out... if they could please fight something other than giant murder cacti that do not have blood.
Nye seems a bit young to be a proper curmudgeon, but they're doing their best and I'm here for it.
It's a Kia Leep story, so all of the characters are well-realized and adorable. Highly recommend.
    plz fix "next chapter button"

Kia has done it again with her fourth installment of the NPSeeds Saga. Nyte in Shining Armor is engaging right from the first chapter, and keeps you engaged with every subsequent chapter.
For context, I read Kia's books out of order - Salty, then Fyre, and finally Nyte and Kanin together (the latter through the newly released audiobook, which I also highly recommend). You can read her series in any order - each adds to the world and each has surprises and reveals that impact all the others.
You don't lose out by reading out of order. Personally, I think I gained by doing so!
This is because Kia has perfectly woven together her world through each story. This goes beyond consistency - there is a multi-work plan unfolding before us that is the work of a professional author.
Professional. I don't say that lightly, but everything here is so well done that I can hardly call it anything but that.
Okay, back to Nyte. The story is filled with life. Every character has a distinct personality, and no one is one-note. There is a depth of emotion that is well balanced to the action. There are competing priorities, and our MC doesn't always get his way just because he's the MC. The character interactions are well done and three dimensional.
The writing is superb, with almost no grammatical errors. It's a very well edited piece of work and will be easy to publish (and I'd be shocked if this doesn't get published!)
The story itself is just good time fun! I'm not going to spoil it here though. I've placed my bets on who pairs up, and I'm excited to see how everything unfolds.
    Go check it out!!

An absolutely amazing story of intrigue, action, adventure, and multiple types of love - familial, romantic, and even companionable; what mroe could you ask out of a series?
Oh, that's right, an actually reasonable power progression scale that doesn't cause one character to become beyond powerful and leave everyone in the dust! Pairing wonderful writing and excellently balanced characters with an array of difficult situations, this story holds the reins on a fantastic narrative in a rich world, and with a main plot that is juuust twisty enough you have to pay attention to catch the turns as they come at you.
Frankly, I'm excited for the next major installment in this branch of the series.

Ngl, I just went and binged the whole series because the universe is neat and I like the magic system, and this one continued the trend. A protag with a blood knight thing going on is just a fun trope, and the tie to the prince is shaping up to be another cute relationship.

We've only just started but I am having such a great time. Nye is driven and direct, sometimes to a fault, and so over being reincarnated (except for how cool super strength can be).
If you've read the other NPSeeds stories, Nye is very different from all the other protagonists in the most delightful of ways. You don't have to read them to get the story, but you should because they're also awesome and you'll get a lot more little hints that were established in those stories. This story takes place in a completely new area of the world, which I love to see in terms of exploration.
A very strong start setting up the stakes and motivations of Nye and the prince he's forced to protect, and looking very forward to seeing how their relationship develops!

First and foremost, this is coming from a reader who has been following along with all of the NPSeeds Saga,
This novel had alot of good ideas, but the execution falls very flat. An MC with a clear goal, challenges, and opportunities for growth. Yet all of them are played to their most boring conclusion
Nye is a strong self-assured knight type who is single minded in their goal to find their brother, or so we're told, yet every single chance they have to actually make their own decision their agency is stripped away by a glowing arrow built into their new body. They are literally dragged around by the narrative because they are forced to protect their love interest instead of following their own goals.
Having previously read Glass Kanin & A Little Salty I assumed there would be some subversion of expectations, like they'd kidnap Quell to focus on their brother, or not end up with him and make a personal deal with him instead and come to value him as a platonic partner.
But instead, they just get dragged into royal conflicts they dont care about and are rewarded with the boy and their brother at the end of the book.
My question is, what was the point?
Neither Quell nor Nye have much further ambition now that everythings settled, the entire book could end here.
For a book with a larger word count than Glass Kanin Book 1, there is shockingly little actual substance. The few glimpses of the worldbuilding we see are interesting, but dont add much to the book as a whole.
Many of the tropes used in this feel tired and uninspired compared to other books in the NPSeeds Saga, the talking cursed object, knight x bookworm, and even royal conflicts were done much better in Friendly Fyre. The challenges of being an inhuman mc, dealing with [Role Requirement]s, managing a violent beserker state, and the supporting romance were better explored and executed in Glass Kanin and A Little Salty.
If this was the first in the saga I'd read, maybe I would have enjoyed it more. So in that ca
