Description

When the system warned the world that it was coming a week in advance, Alex couldn’t have been more excited.

In college for a degree he didn’t care about to get a job he didn’t want, the promise of a world where magic and challenge awaited — even at the potential cost of death — was the best news he possibly could have imagined.

Alex was ready for a new life. Hewasn’tready for his only friend to shove him through a portal into hell the moment the apocalypse started. Instead of getting to punt rabbits and farm wolves, Alex finds himself stranded in a warped world where even the bugs are stronger than he is. Even with a summoner class that gains the powers of its monsters, most people would have died.

Alex didn’t get the memo.

He might have liked challenge a little bit too much. Where others saw certain death, he found something else.

Opportunity.

Love this to bits. Alex is great. A battle maniac while still being relatable and not a colossal prick. I love the monsters he's go and hope to see more. The world building has a lot of hooks in it and I look forward to them being explored. The Mirror lands are a great nightmare training ground. The first big monsters the City Eating Centipedes are memorable.

Actus doesn’t miss, this book is fantastic. I put it off for a bit because I’m not a fan or tamer/summoner stories, but I’ve loved everything else Actus has written so I eventually caved, I’m glad I did. Interesting power systems, wonderful fights, lovable characters (I feel like Alex and Claire would get along with Noah and Moxie), and fascinating mysteries.
The pivotal point of the mirrorlands and Alex’s summons are inspired, I always look forward to what new horrors they will find and bend to their will.
As always, Actus has a consistent writing style with impeccable grammar.

I'm currently about 30% through what has been posted and I am absolutely loving this book. Actus has quickly become a favorite author of mine for their creativity, imagination, story execution, and overall writing prowess.
The main character, Alex, is just the right amount of unhinged and I love that Claire is right there with him for whatever crazy plan he has. I can't wait to see how the story continues and how our MCs continue to grow in power.
Keep up the good work, Actus! You are a phenomenal storyteller.

Have been reading this new one on Actus’s Patreon for a while now and am happy to see it here.  This is a fun read with a very different take on the initial apocalypse moments and immediate aftermath.  I am enjoying it quite a lot- I think Patreon is up to chapter 29 now, and it is getting stronger as it goes.
So far we have a reasonable person who is coping with an unreasonable situation in a believable manner for the character and in the world he is stuck in.   I acknowledge that I would probably handle things differently, but the character is written in a way that you never question his mental process; it feels reasonable for him and you aren’t pulled out of the story yelling WTF regularly.   Naming no names, but yes I have recently read more than a few where I was convinced the MC was both a complete moron and also randomly morphing into completely different people as if the author forgot which project they were on.  So this is a big draw for me right now.
This story is thought out and it shows.  I look forward to seeing where it goes.

Do you like summoners? Minion mancer builds? An impetuous main character who rises to the challenge and embrace the thrill of not only surviving in a strange, fractured new world, but dominating as he rises through the ranks? Then you're in the right place. Buckle up, friends; this is going to be a wild ride.
Like many college students, Alex doesn't yet know which direction he wants to go in life. He's plodding along, stuck in the pre-rat-race cycle (AKA university), when the System announces that it's Coming SoonTM to a world near you. Unlike the rest of the population, Alex doesn't believe this is a doom and gloom pronouncement. In fact, he's excited to finally have a goal: to be the best, like no one ever was. Err, wrong story.
Sorry, sorry, this is a totally different kind of monster-taming evolution story!
So far, the battles are way cooler. No mere fainting here. Alex is playing for keeps. He's a bit headstrong for my liking, but at least it keeps things spicy! He runs into a variety of monsters along the way, most of which are stronger than he is. Fortuitously, he has this one cool trick that other novices hates: the ability to summon a bonded creature and fight alongside it. When his summon is vanquished, he takes on a portion of its power.
Without too many spoilers, Alex soon faces a choice for how he wants to evolve his path to power. He skips over my personal favorite option, but lands on a super fun build that will definitely pay off as he defeats more monsters and gains access to more diverse and powerful skill sets. Early hints at power scaling make me think that we're heading toward continent-sinking kinds of confrontations in the future, though that's probably a very long way off. I can't wait!
While the story is still in its formative stages, I can say with rock-solid confidence that Actus knows how to keep things entertaining. Expect snappy dialogue, heart-pounding action sequences, clever world building, and seismic shifts in your understanding of

This story has a lot of really good things going for it:
The MC, for example, is extremely likeable (in my opinion), and a joy to follow around as a reader. His endearing mix of reckless bravery, enthusiasm for the thrill of the fight, and morally nuanced outlook make him a standout character.
The setting is a eclectic mix of ideas taken from various other stories and tropes. While Actus isnt doing anything revolutionary with his world, the execution of his premise is strong enough to keep the reader's curiosity peaked.
Last, but not least, the power system the writer has developed is an interesting take on the LITRPG genre. There are not any hard numbers or simple level ups, but the "status screen" provided to the characters and the reader definitely add to the story. The MC's build in particular leads to a progression system that is multifaceted and engrossing.
I have greatly enjoyed catching up to the current chapter, but the story definitely isnt perfect (what is?):
First, keep in mind that this story is a SLOW burn. We are around 1.8K pages in, and I dont think even two weeks have past since the story's starting point. Actus does a suprisingly good job of making the story not feel particularly grinding, but I would keep that in mind if you are particularly sensitive about pacing.
Secondly, the tension I feel in every conflict (of which there are MANY) has steadly lessend as I've progressed through the story. If you find yourself attached to any particular character never fear, because nothing bad will ever happen to any of them. The MC and every character of even minor significance have suffered absolutely no losses or meaningful setbacks. There is always a general sense that everything will always work out, and whatever adversity of the moment that exists will be conveniently solved pretty quickly. The merry band also always encounter the perfectly leveled enemies to progress themselves, almost never finding themselves in a hopeless situation. To be fair, the

This is actually the only one of Actus's stories I stuck around for. Personally, I'm here for the power system exploration and worldbuilding, and more recently, seeing how that Starfallen lie is going to go.
As far as plot goes, it's been going mostly similar to how most post-apocalypse stories tend to go, and the character building looks to be about the same. Both are well done of course, but ultimately nothing that outstanding.

Excellent story, I feel the summoner archetype is heavily under represented in most fiction due to the difficulty of making an enjoyable character, instead of an NPC with cool summons. Very hype story telling, there would be points where I’d be reading and I would laugh out loud or some other noise in excitement because something happened that I’d been waiting for or didn’t expect. Descriptions are absolutely peak. I do have some minor complaints, although one of them I think is part of the nature of being a small author. Namely, some of the grammar/verbage could use minor work or be more sensible where they’re used. It’s mostly nitpicking but when the original princess monster, the Dredge, was mentioned, there was a 50/50 chance it would say Drudge. Or like a few times where the same word is used two to three times in one sentence for a description. It’s not wrong, just not concise and doesn’t really add much. My only other complaint is the romance, I feel like it was going well, y’know these two people basically stuck to each other through fate, I mean life and death scenarios show you who’s a homie. And then they’re always together and become more friendly and know each other better, all tracks but I think the transition from friends to flirtatious was abrupt and not smooth. It felt disingenuous, like you decided that was the day they were going to be attracted to each other. I know the two complaints took a lot of words, but I really have enjoyed it. Your first book I read on kindle, all 700+ pages in 8 days in between work and kids, and within the following 10 I’ve finished up to current status

Writting is great, can't conplain about grammar or storytelling as both are very good.
But I can conplain about the storyline, and in my opinion it was heavily botched and a massive waste of potential.
As the synopsis and title inply, the MC finds himself in the Spoopy Nighmare Realm, that was good and quite interesting.
BUT Besides the MC being the average battle junkie archetype on the Path to OPdom, he also IMMEDIATLY stumbles into big titty goth vampire gf that is also conveniently lost in the nigtmare realm and of course she gets all hot and bothered when she needs to drink his blood.
Thats not the main problem, the issue is that instead of sticking with the Spoopy Nightmare Realm, they get back to earth by chapter 20...
So we get a Battle Junkie MC, with edgy OP summoning powers, with a Vampire GF on a bog standart System Apocalypse setting.
Basically my problem with the story is just that the unique interesting thing about it were just a convoluted way of justifying some comically tropey self insert wish fuffilment starter kit, and I'm very dissapointed and underwhelmed.
