Description
Fraternal twins Ash and Jacob Owens are ripped from Earth and thrust into Fullna, a world on the brink of war. When their summoning is sabotaged by a mysterious traitor, they’re left stranded in the perilous northern territories—hunted by an enemy with a single purpose: slaughter. As they fight for their lives, rescue arrives in the form of a small ragtag military squadron, whose captain, Thena, finally reveals why they were summoned. Long ago, a god bonded itself to the soul of the twins’ ancestor, giving him the power to banish an ancient evil from Fullna. Now that evil has returned, and the body count is rising. The god’s soul, passed down through their family line, has split itself between the twins, making Ash and Jacob the only ones with the power to win the war—but only if they can awaken what lies dormant within. Their new allies race to deliver them to a town south of the mountain range that divides the continent, where they expect a military train to take the brothers to safety. But the horrors that await Ash and Jacob are beyond anything Thena and her Squadron could have foreseen. Should the brothers fail to stop the threat that has descended upon this world, all of the ten realms will soon meet their end. And Earth’s realm will be the next to fall. *What to expect: -Detailed, brutal action -Strong language -Adult humor and themes -Tragedy -Overcoming trauma -Found family -Slow-burn romance -MC’s that will never be OP, compared to the main antagonists. **The stories in this series contain mature subject matter that may be triggering for some. - 13 Pitch Black CatsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A solid, well-written story. Nothing too fancy with its cast of characters. The multiple POVs really show all the moving parts of the story. High fantasy with a touch of modern technology is always a refreshing treat. The synopsis tells more about what's happening with the story than what's released, so I just really wish there was more story to read.
- Ayela ArcanaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Beware the tattoo. This story starts off with a smashing scene, then cuts to what seems like ordinary life. Until Ash nearly falls over, gripped by an otherworldly presence and a voice. The mystery gets cranked up to eleven when he and his fraternal twin are in the dojo, and a magic circle that looks like their tattoos appears out of nowhere.Yes, they get transported, and no, they weren’t expecting it. So, they get to have a brotherly fight when they should be saving their energy for all the new-world explorations. It’s a fun ride, so buckle up!This book's sprinkled with humor like a Mother-Lover Freud doll to add levity amongst the serious, high-stakes world building. The characters feel real, like you’re listening to a story a friend would tell you about their day, their struggles, the weights they bear, and the funny sh*t they say to their brothers. The style has multiple point-of-view characters, but the ones I focused on the most were Josh and Ash, the twin brothers. They act just like all of us, living life’s ups and downs, wishing we could change things for ourselves and other people. So when their reality splits open, it pulls you into the story so much deeper.I only made a couple of Edit Suggestions, so I found this to be a cleanly-edited book without grammar issues.Overall: I recommend if you’re looking for a high-stakes fantasy that will keep you flipping the pages all night!
- Bob5736Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started this. I’m not a huge huge fan of Sci-fantasy, but my brother bugged me to log onto Royal Road and check this out, and I’m glad I did. I’m only on chapter 4, but it’s really drawing me in. Solid writing and a fun story, even with how brutal some parts are. It had me laughing out loud a few times, too. Definitely recommend giving it a read.
- Brentastic76Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Only a few chapters in and I’m hooked. An excellent offering from jonresnickwriting that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. Intriguing storyline and characters that felt real and relatable. Especially the MC's Ash and Jacob. Great brotherly dynamic. The world building is off to a great start too. It kept me glued to the page. Looking forward to seeing more and I will definitely be following this author!!
- C.D. KingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story blends portal fantasy and sci-fi in a way that’s both familiar and fresh. Highly recommend to anyone who loves world-hopping adventures mixed with mystery and action. The twin protagonists, Jacob and Ash, offer a solid dynamic, balancing humor, sibling rivalry, and moments of genuine vulnerability that make them easy to root for.The plot is layered with intrigue: a mysterious summoning gone wrong, kidnapping by an unknown faction, and the reveal of ancient symbols and guardianship powers that suggest a bigger destiny. These elements come together in a satisfying way, building tension while also teasing future twists.Worldbuilding is handled thoughtfully. The author introduces concepts like mana, translation emblems, and alien creatures without info-dumping, instead weaving them into character conversations and action. The blend of military sci-fi (with armored troops, scouts, and rifles) and high fantasy (magic, glyphs, guardians) works well and feels organic. The characters beyond the twins—especially Thena, the mysterious captain, and the quirky squad—add depth and variety to the cast. The tension between trust and suspicion keeps the story engaging and prevents it from becoming predictable.Style-wise, the story is clear and accessible, with a conversational tone that fits the brothers’ personalities. There’s a good mix of descriptive action, dialogue, and internal monologue. The humor, especially Jacob’s sarcasm, injects levity without undercutting the stakes.Grammar and phrasing are flawless. The pacing is balanced — action scenes intersperse well with quieter moments of exposition and character development. The mystery about the twins’ connection to the Guardian and the political backdrop hinted at promise rich narrative potential.Final thoughts: I was hooked from the first paragraph. This book is a master class in writing, and world building. The dialogue is so natural and charming. The author is amazing at painting the scenes making the reader feel a
- CjwpicsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Where do I even begin to rate this story? Relatable characters, well written action, and plot points that keep me wanting more. This story is gripping and relentless. the visuals are visceral and raw. In my opinion, what ive read so far is what you would get if someone were isakai'd into a game of thrones fantastical universe. While the prologue and chapter one shift can be jarring, I felt it was perfect for setting expectations for whats to come. I cant wait for each chapter to drop so I can see the fate of the two brothers in their adventures in the NEXT WORLD.
- thenawannabeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very intriguing characters and premise, I felt like l was right there in the story! I know this is just the set-up for the main show but I can't wait to meet more of the characters and really see what this world you have built is all about...you have really set us up for an adventure!
- zephyrtrillianRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story follows twin brothers (early thirties) who get isekai'd through a portal while at their martial arts dojo. Their new world is filled with magic, unique characters, monsters, and politics, and between the humor, the action sequences, and the emotional lives of the characters, I really wanted more!Rating DetailsStyle:This story is so visual that it's like watching a movie. Action sequences in particular are crisp, tight, powerful, and purposeful, and I'd go so far as to say the author has a gift for writing them. And although the story is written using multiple POVs, each POV is distinct and used with purpose to move the story forward, develop the world, and develop the reader's sense of the characters. There's also a Stephen King quality to how the "real world" chapters are written. Ash and Jacob originate from lives that feel real. They're from Los Angeles, they work in their family dojo, they go to therapy and have love interests, etc. By the time they were isekai'd, I was invested in who they were and what their lives were like as though I was reading about real people from the real world. When it all gets turned upside-down, there's still this sense of being grounded in reality that lets you follow along with them and suspend disbelief in an easier way than many isekai stories allow.Story:A lot is happening all at once, but it all weaves together as the story progresses. There's political intrigue, war, interpersonal dynamics, personal traumas and ghosts, and historical events that affect the present. There's never a dull moment. I like that. The worldbuilding also unfolds the way good worldbuilding should—like an adventure, without exposition dumps or unnecessary asides. I felt like I had just enough lore to keep me curious and engaged, but not so much that I felt drowned in it. I could have stood to spend more time with Ash and Jacob in Los Angeles, but that's more about how much I like the characters than anything else, I think.Grammar:I didn't find
- DanT46Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really enjoying this book so far. Original and draws you in. Twin Brothers plucked from their regular lives and forced into a New World. Can't wait for the rest of the material to drop. The set up with the first couple chapters and depth of the world building draws me in for more..
- EnigmaticalRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This novel is an impressive blend of portal fantasy and sci-fi, executed with a level of polish and passion that makes it stand out from this genre of Isekai/portal fantasy, which is usually quite saturated. Overall, a genuinely enjoyable read.
Style and Grammar
The prose is clean, confident, and highly readable. The author doesn't fall into the trap of over-explaining; instead, details are revealed through dialogue, action, and context. The humour, especially through Jacob’s sarcasm, adds levity without cheapening the tension. Descriptions are vivid enough to immerse the reader without bogging down the flow, and the grammar is flawless throughout. The only reason I've taken half a star off is because the style wasn't special compared to other aspects of the novel. Probably overly picky on my part, as it's still quite enjoyable. But if I wasn't picky, I'd give every aspect of this novel 5 stars. So I'll be harsh, to make the review more genuine.
Story
From the prologue onward, the plot shows genuine craftsmanship. The introduction of Felseen and the Brax sets the stakes with clarity and weight, while the later shift to Ash and Jacob grounds the narrative in modern Earth before expanding it into something much larger. The story seamlessly balances mystery, action, and intrigue-kidnappings, strange summoning rituals, ancient symbols, and hints of guardian powers all build toward a layered, compelling arc. The pacing is especially strong, with bursts of action interspersed with quieter, character-driven moments that flesh out both the cast and the world. I've deducted a half a star purely because some of the plot hasn't blossomed yet, but on my part, it is facetious, as the novel is still in a very early stage. So I have no doubt down the line this will change. But again, it's better to be harsh for now. But I have no doubt this won't be a problem in the future.
Characters
The characters are vibrant and shockingly realistic at times. Ash and Jacob’s sibling dynamic is
