Fights are well written with interesting abilities that interact appropriately. The dialogue feels very in-character and the relationships are developing pretty naturally. Very keen to keep reading!
- CalllumRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The writing is clean and engaging, with a natural rhythm to how the story flows. The comedic tone balances really well with the ever-present danger in the world, making for a very smooth and entertaining reading experience. Their world is a hard place, but Eik does a good job at not just surviving but thriving in it. There are very well-executed twists at times that completely caught me off guard. The sad moments, with unexpected losses, are portrayed convincingly, something many novels struggle to do well.
Story: This is a portal fantasy with a refreshing take on system mechanics and progression. The worldbuilding is expansive with a promise of potential, and the way unique cultures have been described is very innovative. It keeps me excited about learning more about the world lore. The use of a rustic wooden plaque to track progression and system notifications is a unique touch instead of the overused interfaces every other story has. Very often, Eik does something that genuinely catches you off guard, always in a good way.
Character: Eik is an epic protagonist who was already interesting before gaining power, and his rise in power only enhanced that. The pace of his progression feels just right, fast by his world's standards but never rushed. The story is packed with well-written antagonists that are extremely easy to hate, making it all the more satisfying every time Eik deals with them. Profound Toxin may not be a character, but I consider it near the top of my mascots list, right alongside Biscuit, Porkchop, Mascot, Bloodshed, and Loth (I’m told some of them don’t count, but I’m hard of hearing :P).
Grammar: No noticeable grammar issues at all. Nothing breaks immersion, and the prose carries the tone really well.
Highly recommended for anyone into cultivation with a LitRPG twist, or anyone who enjoys stories about protagonists making it to the top of their world (I'm quite sure Eik is getting there at some point). - Casille_VRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you like MCs who are competent in their field, but not immediately OP just because they get a special skill, you'll probably like this. So far, Eik has won a fights by using his head just as much as his poison, and also through good teamwork with his allies. There hasn't been any "and then he killed the beast three tiers above himself" so far, either.
That said, I'm certain that his ability is going to shape up to be very strong, if applied correctly.
The writing is very solid, from the characters, to the action, to the slowly unveiled world building. I'm intrigued by the direction things are taking, and looking forward to seeing new chapters pop up on my follow list! - MasafuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story with a really interesting premise. Does a great job of getting into the heads of the characters and making them seem like real people instead of the stereotypical heroes that aren’t bothered by anything. Only thing I would critique is that the setup of the first 9 years of apocalypse seems a little weak/the world seems to have ended but then a fully functional/semi-modern city got built somehow, and we lack a lot of detail on how, or even comments of ‚and this is still missing because we didn’t have anyone who knows how‘ (excluding the high tech stuff like movies)(things like food variety because not everything is native to North America, how they get building materials, etc.
Otherwise it’s a really great story, and I’m loving how it’s progressing so far, and just rambling on the get to 200 words at this point, because it’s first thing in the morning and I can’t construct 200 words of how much I love this story. I get frustrated with the characters about the unfairness and chaos of it all, but get to enjoy reading them navigate it and try to deal with it as best they can - Mattf8675Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far, this has been a fast paced story. One that is very fun and exciting to read. I am going to continue for as long as time permits and word keep appearing. If you are looking for something a little different than the "hero save the world" or "let's build a town/kingdom" then this is for you.
- SrayanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The style is good written through eyes of MC mostly, pulls you into the story. Events are shown, no didactic telling. Past events are referred to during natural conversation. There is a clear storyline scenario - we meet the MC several years after a SysApoc type event. Monsters invade through “fractures”, people fight monsters and many of them get stronger (system), Multiple interesting characters already. MC is initially “unawoken” but an important role as he is an alchemist! He calls himself an apothecary but that’s just him being silly.World knowledge is imparted “naturally” within the storyline and not given as pseudolectures etc. The story is started with the world on the verge of meeting other civilisations from within the “unified mass”. So there will soon be alliances and all that Re has already been serious face smacking (thoroughly deserved).Grammar is ok, doesn’t impact immersion.Characters - several interesting and important ones already there. At this stage only the MC is really fleshed out. He is a nice normal guy dropped into a warzone. I thought he was a bit goofy but fun. Talented, and now needs to think a lot more about how to use his skills (I mean he was just a regular pharmacist until a few days back). He is up for pretty much anything though. Looking forward to how he gets on.
- TorcallRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Just finished chapter 31 and gotta say amazing potential so far can highly recommend, I was look for a novel related to to poison and this popped up and it seemed just like fate. I can recommend if you want an MC that won't back down to a verbal challenge and won't take things sitting down. The characters are well fleshed for the amount of story or chapters we've had so far. I like the power system its simple and understandable and just makes sense (unlike some other stories).
Hope this story goes far and good luck to the author. - Wraith SaintRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0World building is generic, but the powers are cool and fun. I think poison is a cool and obviously deadly power, and it's extremely rare to see a main character focus on it. It's refreshing. The application of poison skills in this series is well thought-out. I'm entertained. Great job.
- aldreilengurRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So this is an early review, of course (chapter 11, whooo!) I can say without reserve that I've had a lot of fun reading MoPT! Poison is a great way to go, for weak to strong, and I actually believe the declaration that this story will be such a one (small spoiler--you see how weak the character is at the beginning, and it's believable what growth he has). I'll get more into that in the part I set aside for story, here, though. HOWEVER! Overall, this is an early review, but I have high expectations, and high hopes!
Style: The style is good! The settings make sense, the politics (what politics there are in the apocalypse) make sense, and the words flow. The writing is solid, and smooth, and it makes sense when one scenario/scene moves into the next.
Grammar: I feel the grammar really makes sense--which is really what I look for in this section. Tenses almost universally match what they should, words aren't overly used, or when they are, it just serves to build the world/setting/scenario, and doesn't become cumbersome. Also, I don't need to go back and reread one sentence 10 times to understand what Green Forest means. Which has frequently been a dealbreaker for me, on Royal Road.
Story: The fights feel like a struggle when they happen, and with one or two exceptions (which make sense for their existence in the story (shock value, and/or excitement building, world development/power scaling etc.)), everything happens at a steady/sensible, for said development, pace. As I said before, this is an early review, but the ideas/premises already show great promise. Maybe a little bit fast, but, meh, that's the world the characters live in! And with more space to grow, I expect positive developments for that too.
Character: The main character, Eik, is likeable! Which, again, is one of the main things I look for in stories like this. He can be a bit hotheaded, which I look forward to seeing more of, when it comes to poison development (so often, poison users are co - lordnikelasRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0"Acerbic apothecary acquires ailment antithesis" seems like a pretty good start to things. This story is mostly a system apocalypse, with a stats-light System (no stat screen, just a tier level and skills). The MC is... pretty nice most of the time, but gets snarky and rude when stressed. The story focuses hard on Eik's POV so far, and the scene-setting when traveling to new locations is nice and expressive. Seems worth a try.
