Description
Sam went for a walk, with the goal of acquiring delicious baked goods. His journey landed him in the past of another world, with a set of memories that didn’t really belong to him. Making use of those memories, and his gaming knowledge, he joined the newest VRMMO, Magic Unbound, ready to enjoy his time in a game that was simply a pipedream in his original world. Join us, as we read about Sam’s journey through the game and life as he transforms from a lone gamer into one surrounded by friends. Read as he deals with annoying villains, scheming edgelord gamers, and secretive assassins! I will endeavor to stay true to the MMO genre while taking a few liberties to make it more interesting. However, this is closer to Slice of Life than anything. There will be drama, action, horror, humor, and everything in between, but I would call this entire thing a guilty pleasure reading (and writing). I got bored with all those VRMMO novels that start out as VRMMO novels, then escalate into martial cage fights, alien invasions, dream dimensions, or whatever. I also don’t like how in several novels they take real-life skills into the game and the game is like: ‘Aight, you do you, bro!’. This novel will keep the real world and the game world separate. Also, to me, it seems that many VRMMO writers have never played any MMO or other video games, or heard about things like patches, pacing, and vertical or horizontal gameplay. The schedule is Tuesday/Friday!

- GarumanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of the best VR regression stories I have read. Scratches most of the itches and handles the issue of potentially cheating well. The writing is smart and either avoids, subverts or leans into some cliches that are stereotypical of the genre.Love the interludes with different POVs.Also, Lucky is Lucky. So, if you are looking for a VR novel I would highly recommend it.
- It Just BobRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I started reading this story on a whim and to my delight I ended up enjoying the story so much that I binge-read all the available chapters! I am currently at chapter 97 and chomping at the bit for more chaos! I am super hyped to see where the Katie storyline goes and I just want to say Puffball is the best Eldrige Kittie
- ExplosiveBubbleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Though the original premise is kinda strange, getting both isekai'd AND time traveling back in time, the fic as a whole is exactly as I wanted and as advertised!A basic semi-cyberpunk esque world with AIs and high tech that isnt really built on, we don't even know the name of the country MC lives in.The cliche of this amazing VR game that takes the world has it affect real life through its game market is something I love but yeah as author has stated gets bogged down by too much focus on the real world side and weird secret plots. The progression is really satisfying with a mix of cheat future knowledge, genre knowledge from his original world, and MC self claiming to be a mmorpg gamer, and also a good smidgen of MC Talent in mana/magic, actual luck, which i really like, its not just one thing that makes the MC strong and OP, its a mix of everything which strikes a good balance.I love the characterisation of side characters in the group and how they do live their own lives, and while sure every follow along with the MC cus of his cheat knowledge, they also have their strengths where the MC would lean on them for support like in business or guild management.I FUCKING LOVE THE POV CHAPTERS!! I'm a slut for POV chapters cus i always love putting into perspective other characters opinions and reactions to the MC.What I would really like is more POV or side chapters of independent characters in the world! we've seen a few like that one ice wizard or those two characters who wanted to make drugs but we've never seen them again.I really really like the game Devs reaction and how the game reacts to him unlike a lot of other VRMMORPG novels where the game doesnt change at all or react to this one dude who knows where the secret treasure is or those cheats or whatever, he has to match his knowledge with that is available to him ingame and online so he can't just cheat his way to everything, even with him doing that the game devs still suspect him of cheating but have 0 proof o
- AlexinyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've been browsing through royal road for a very long time trying to find something new a refreshing to read and picked this up almost immediately. The main character is great and doesn't feel like he's too game breaking as he's setting up a foundation rather than rushing ahead (something you dont often see in this genre) and i saw that someone mention solo play in the reviews. This feels like that and that's one of my favourite web novels, but at the same time this has it's own unique flair
- CADDbabeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is an author's skill review rather than a story review. It is so worth it!Excellent character development - from the lowest NPC to the MC. Stories within stories within stories within stories. Very well written. The mood, attitude, motive, syntax and writing styles all shift to fit the situation and the characters. It is so funny at times that you HAVE to share the tidbits despite not having yet dried the tears in your eyes, and they laugh hard along with you.(200 words minimum review...hmmm)Mixed sources, mixed genres, big words (luckily Royal Road has a dictionary function to look up the meanings), small words, slang, lit RPG, they all shift to JUST FIT with the continued character development and scenes. The story & writing is so good that it is near impossible to want put the story (or phone) aside to go do something else. The author's division of chapter break points do help a wee bit with that.Prolific creative writer, who ads a chapter (unless life happens) twice a week. The author asks for, listens to, and replies to feedback edits & feedback comments.Stories within stories within stories within stories. For this story - the ROTF funniest parts are the game developers responses to the MC in their virtual game!
- ArkyongRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Might as Well is a gripping journey through a captivating virtual game world that blends technology, emotion, and suspense in a way that’s both thought-provoking and exhilarating. Set within a hyper-realistic, immersive online game, the novel takes us into a universe where players not only fight for survival but also search for meaning, connection, and identity in a digital landscape. What truly sets this novel apart is its world-building. The virtual game is described with such vivid detail, it feels almost tangible. The cities, the landscapes, the NPCs (non-player characters) – everything is so well-crafted that it feels like stepping into a fully realized alternate reality. The novel dives deep into the mechanics of the game itself, offering a sense of adventure, not like some power fantasy. As the story progresses, the line between the virtual and real becomes increasingly difficult to define. Themes of identity, control, and the consequences of living in a world where technology and reality intertwine are explored in a way that makes you question not just the characters’ fates, but the very nature of existence in a digital age. What’s particularly exciting about Might as Well is its ability to balance action-packed sequences with thoughtful introspection. Whether it's high-stakes duels or quiet moments of reflection, the pacing is spot on, keeping the reader engaged from beginning to end. The novel’s twists and turns are expertly executed, and just when you think you’ve figured it all out, a new revelation changes everything. In conclusion, Might as Well is a must-read for fans of virtual reality, adventure, and character-driven stories. Its rich setting, intricate plot, and profound exploration of digital identities make it a standout in the genre. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to truly live within a game, this novel offers an unforgettable glimpse into that possibility. It’s a thrilling ride, both exhilarating and poignant, and will leave you thin
- AlluteRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story, author knows what he's doing. Worthy add to your reading lost if you have the time for it. The time travel portion mixed with the isekai is interesting and kind of reminds me of Emporer of solo play and has that kind of feel without the mc being too edgy like that novel has.
- DizzymashRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I cannot tell you what a blessing it is to read a semi-goofy and fun story about an awesome game. Keep up the good work and I can't wait for the actual revenge arc to start!
P.S. The interludes are some of my favorite moments, and I hope we eventually get one from Lucky's point of view but that is a long ways away I'm sure. - DtunisonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is pretty much a straight upgrade of Reincarnated Sword God by an order of magnitude. The sheer depth of characters and thought out game system really sets this story apart. Further, this is one of the only stories where I truly enjoy the interludes and how they are used to world build, character build, and add sprinkles of mystery. I truly look forward to reading more and advise others to give this a read.
- KKWalkinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As said in the title, this book is lowkey very accurate. Trolling, whaleing, and and people who don’t now shit about how to actually play the game are common in a lot of ways they aren’t in other books. For example, it’s talked ab a lot how a lot of the top groups are just rich kids playing with daddy’s credit card, which as an avid mmo player, is way more accurate than most people realize. Overall, numbers go brrrrrrr and this is a great book to turn off like 1/2 of your brain and read.
