Description

Steve finds himself in the body of a cat. With a whole world to explore, and a fresh new life for him to start, he sets out to be a different person than he used to be; to carve out his own path on which he will never again be chained down by the expectations of others. The world is fickle, and there is much to see. With a system that drives people to keep moving forward, there will always be conflict. Will the ambitions of others sweep him off his paws, or will Steve brave the storm? Well, before any of that, he has to make his way out of a forest. What to expect: - Hard-working MC. To a degree, coming of age, given how he has to adjust to this new world and figuring out that despite his reincarnation, he is not super special. - Slow, but meaningful progression. The type where after a couple dozen chapters you think that the character has come far, but each step itself isn't super noticeable. - Meta humor. There is a narrator written into the story. I think it's funny. Might not be for you. - Worldbuilding. Once I find my footing and we're past the obligatory "start in the new world" part of the story, there will frequently be an in-world work of literature at the start of the chapter, diving into different aspects of the world. (Yes, this is an idea that I really liked in Chrysalis and applied here.) - Queer people. If you don't like LGBT+ characters in stories, this might not be for you. Weeklychapters on Friday! This story opens by intentionally breaking the 4th wall, which may not be for everyone. However, this style works with the character as it sets the tone for the book. The Narrator is humorously given their own character as they voice opinions on Mercury's actions or discoveries.
Mercury, our MC reincarnated cat, has a determined attitude not to be a house cat. We follow him as he levels his skills in this new strange world. The system is quite well thought out. I am only at chapter ten, though, so I'm sure there is more for me to learn about the world that has been built so far.
If you like monster MCs and LitRPG levels going up as they survive their new world, this novel is for you! Expect some humour and humans and cute cat floof

I'm a sucker for transmigration and reincarnation novels and this immediately caught my eyes because who wouldn't want to read about someone having to live as a cat in a fantasy world.
Gotta love the little sneak peaks into the world lore in the later chapters, it helps add so much more life into the world and even though it starts off a bit slow, it does kick off once the plot  catches up to our unsuspecting cat protagonist. Once more characters are introduced, it really feels like a world that you're exploring with the protag and discovering the plot. The supportive cast might not be that big yet but all of them are pretty solid and feel interesting to learn more about. Also an interesting spin on the skill shop and how unfair it seems. This isn't a story about a protagonist born with a golden spoon in their mouth or a golden finger cheat from what I'm seeing, which I'm quite happy about cause op protag from the start can get real boring, if done incorrectly,  so I'm enjoying the hard work that has to be put into aquiring that dough.
Can't wait to find out more about this world and how a human turned cat has to deal with daily life without opposable thumbs.

I look forward to every chapter. I really do.
The universe is very well done, or at least it satisfies me a lot, but I especially like our protagonist, his reflections on various subjects while keeping the emotional side, absent in many other books in this genre.
I think that's what drew me to this book. Getting inside someone's thoughts and understanding them.
The action scenes are also well done, even if sometimes a little slow, simply because they're not the main attraction and the thing to concentrate on.
The plots are increasingly interesting, becoming more complex all the time, adding depth, especially to the characters.
We really see the protagonist develop, but not just in numbers, while meeting lots of VERY interesting secondary characters, each with their own personality. We feel they really matter, adding their own little something to the story to make it what it is now. A beautiful story.
You just have to hang on a bit, for those who are used to faster stories, but it comes on its own after a while, being easily drawn into the book.
Nothing else to say. It's just a book I particularly enjoy, and I'd like more people to discover it.
Incidentally, I think the title doesn't do justice to the content, but then again, personal opinion.
    Give it a try!

    Hello,
I absolutly love everything about this story! I binged read it in about 2-3 days and can't get enough.
Mercury is a great and absolutly adorable character, no matter how fierce he tries to be.
Thanks for the great read and I will be diligently waiting for the next chapters!
    Cheers!

Hey everyone, I can only recommend this story. The characters are amazingly fleshed out and feel so real. I especially appreciate the wide variety of side characters that are all given the love and attention they deserve. Entire chapters can be carried by only the supporting cast, completely without Mercury, and I couldn't love them more.
The worldbuilding is simply fantastic, creating such a rich and interconnected world for the characters to inhabit. The mistakes in grammar and language are few and far between. I have even subscribed to their patreon in order to read ahead and the queer representation gets sooo good, I have never seen this level of queernees so well-written in a story before!
A few points deducted from the story part of the review, because despite the first chapters having their charm, they are a little rough to get through. The main story only kicks in later, so I would encourage new readers wanting to give it a try to stick with it for a bit if they like the writing style, you are in for a great ride with some truly surprising twists and turns! Hope you can enjoy it as much as I can!

So, after reading through all of what has come out so far.  I feel the need to update some of what I wrote before, so here we go. Review 2.0.
Now, this is a story that is honestly a fascinating read, if not necessarily an easy one. Its title and initial narrative structure being a little misleading notwithstanding. It can take a bit for you to really get into it, but once you do it is a really refreshing read.
The story itself has a little bit of everything. The atmosphere it builds is mostly light-hearted, tending towards a natural style of humorous narrative that doesn’t feel forced most of the time, but it isn’t afraid to take itself seriously at times as well, giving the reader a nice balance that is only a bit skewed towards the whimsical and funny while not avoiding more mature topics.
The narrative style can be somewhat… challenging would be the best way to put it in my opinion. It starts a little bit more standard, but quickly shapes itself into more of a shared stream of consciousness, flitting back and forth between points of views, narrators, and even between third and first person a handful of times. The so-called narrator is an outsider watcher, with some small, unrelated and independent scenes inserted into the narratives (but not the story itself) with it as a character.
Several chapters also have inserts of what seem to be in-universe lore introduced in the form of excerpts from books or other forms of media (mostly) from the world the story takes place in. Despite some of those seemingly trying to tie into the events of present or past chapters, it works on and off, and ir does help to create the somewhat overarching  feeling of ‘stream of consciousness’ I’ve mentioned at the start of the review.
They still don’t particularly work for me, the vast majority being short bits done more for humor's sake than to have any narrative purpose, so you won’t miss anything relevant by skipping them outright if you don't enjoy them much either. That said, they d

While Mercury is very much a reincarnated man in a cat's body, a fair bit of cat mannerisms do shine through. The world setting is painted very lovely with bits of horror strewn through an otherwise neat fantasy setting with various races, kingdoms and empires at war and the horrors that come with it
The chapters are on the shorter side but make up for it with high frequency, and while there are side pov's they aren't intrusive or from too many characters.
The system used is not too blocky or feel the need to pop up a parchment roll worth of text to proclaim a status update every chapter, but more serve the purpose of displaying health during fights or to showcase to the reader that dear Mercury has indeed gotten better at something.
Overall a good read and i suggest you give it a shot- even if you are a vile dog person

I gotta say, I don't know what I expected when I first picked it up. While the start of the story was a bit slow, it quickly started to get better and better with each chapter.
I love world building and the inclusion of little text-snippets from books written in this new world give a lot of insight into the mindset of the inhabitants and how they view certain things. It's a really unique way to tell information that might not fit into the current narrative but help flesh out the world nonetheless.
The narrator is treated as a character, which is an interesting choice and sometimes leads to equally interesting moments of woah, wait, what when they decide to chime in with their own opinion. Which I myself find pretty funny honestly.
I didn't notice any mistakes or weird grammatical errors while reading this, the style is good and nothing screamed 'I wrote this a 4 in the morning with 5 monster energy drinks in my system' so that's great.
All in all, I can really recommend reading it, despite the slow start it picks up after a few chapters and the world opens up to awesome characters, an interesting world and a main character that is not a Gary Stu, but instead works hard to achieve what he wants.

This is a story of fantastical adventures mixed with cozy slice of life litrpg that adopts the themes of identity, found family, and what it means to be kind. LGBT+ friendly. This is a serious story at its core, even with the more light hearted beginning, and does touch on topics that some may not be comfortable reading such as receiving a hostile reaction to coming out. This is not the main content and is used mainly as a way to juxtapose the difference between his previous life and his new one on occasion. I don't think I have a way to actually describe how this story makes me feel but it's everything I want so far as character growth, introspection, character relationships, and a system designed to reward and empower characters for following their dreams and passions.
