For five years, AustinBuskirk was completely numb. Plunked into a foreign world by means unknown, his only goals were to survive until the next day and beg God for salvation. Saovia is never kind to those who are "different", and a Christian man formerly from a comfortable in the western world has an impossibly steep hill to climb- And with almost no one willing to help him, he had to learn every trick and trade by himself and hope he didn't lose his humanity in the process.That all changed when he met Meika- A Velak slave purchased by a man Austin thought was a dear friend of his, and a step too far in Saovia's passive contempt for the canid peoples he saw in his travels. She was abused and broken. Austin had to care for and comfort her every day for two months as he saved enough to buy her freedom, but at last he found a calling and a purpose for being better than "good enough" for the rest of his life. But keeping her free would cost them both far more than the 40 Marks Austin paid...Austin and his closest friend Meika write this account years after the fact. They invite the reader to celebrate their joys, mourn their sorrows, and find hope and inspiration to carry on when darkness seems to hold complete dominion over all things. How it has come into my hands, I am not sure, but I continue to wish them both all the best. I like to think they would be happy with me for sharing this account with all of you.
