- AleoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I rarely come across a "sword and sorcery" novel that feels this alive.
Believe me—this book is genuinely great, and I have no hesitation giving it a thumbs-up.
When I say it feels alive, I mean the author has truly integrated magic into everyday life.
Most fantasy novels I’ve read treat magic purely as a tool for combat.
Very few seriously consider the question: aside from fighting, can magic improve ordinary people's daily lives?
Take this passage, for example, from [Chapter Eight]:
[Manipulate Dead], [Renew Spirit], [Poise and Bearing], [Dust], [Beautician], and [Style and Grace] combined to exfoliate, remove grime, catch stray hairs, give her a small burst of energy, and shake off any morning awkwardness.
That one small moment alone was enough for me to rate this book five stars.
When I read it, something clicked in my heart:
"Oh! Not bad! This author has ideas!"
Why does this matter so much to me?
Because at its core, magic is basically technology in a fantasy skin.
We all know how technology changes the way we live:
Washing machines make laundry easier,
Vacuum cleaners make cleaning less painful,
And phones let us communicate effortlessly—no matter where we are (as long as there's signal).
So why wouldn’t magic do the same in a magical world?
Should a wizard really have to follow the exact same morning routine as a regular person just to feel refreshed?
If so… well, that wizard seems a bit underwhelming to me.
Or perhaps, more honestly—it means the author hasn’t fully thought through how their world actually works.
A world that isn’t deeply built is hard to immerse yourself in.
If the author doesn’t feel immersed in it themselves, how can readers be expected to buy in?
But this book gets it right.
It presents a magical world where daily life is shaped by magic—and that kind of thoughtful worldbuilding deserves recognition.
Beyond that, the book also includes some delightfully unexpected moments.
For instance, in one of the early chapters (I forget which—and I’ - RedDragonFanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's nice to find a bit offbeat book. The MC is a likable necromancer/maid in a place where necromancy is frowned on but accepted. It's a standard fantasy/litrpg where everyone has stats but their character traits don't necessary determine their profession. So far she's not touched by fate but is intelligent and ambitious so it'll be interesting to see where it goes from here.
- Scout77Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The prose for this story are great. The world building is awesome and I still feel like there is so much more that there is to learn and experience with our MC. The characters all feel like they have depth and like I could meet any of them on the street. Real people with their own motivations and personality. I do hope our MC finds love at some point. Keep up the awesome.
- TimiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is great. Really similar to Maid to Kill that went on hiatus a while ago. It's what attracted me to this story when I saw the title. I decided to give it a try and lo and behold it's just as amazing.
Without going into spoilers, the MCs ability and willingness to push the boundaries of their powers is perfect. Skills shouldn't ever be like guns you just pull the trigger to. They should be extensions of something more. Be flexible and less rigid in their application and this story gets it right.
The grammar isn't perfect. It could use some editing. But it doesn't detract from the story too much. It's a great read, you should give it a chance.
Also there's a bunch of royal road Easter eggs in the story referencing other novels and even Pokemon. They're hilarious.
Surprisingly I was worried things would slow down in season 2 but it just kept ramping up more and more and more with newer characters and higher stakes. I've caught up and now I'm anxiously waiting for more chapters.
"Death is cold, final, still, sorrowful and joyful" it is many different things and it takes skill to recognize that - ZaafielRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Glad I tried this one. It is really good. The main character is relatable. The world is bit zany and at first I didn't take it too seriously, but the plot is legit. There is a lot of humor throughout the chapters. The cool part is how the MC approaches skills and how skills are used in the world. Writing quality is good with only a few grammar mistakes now and then. Also the level of power is reasonable. The MC has enough problems working on her levels and staying alive.
- moscato359Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is one of my favorite litrpg
Its entertaining and never feels like a slog.
Really has unusual skills, and does a good job at making her feel like both a maid and a necromancer
Almost zero undead summoning in this series
She puts the harm in harmony.
Also someone needs to protect bea. - FiddlesoupRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Maid in Necromancy feels like reading a manga or watching an anime— in a good way. This is definitely a story that belongs on RR.
The characters are weird and quirky, but entertaining. The writer is super well polished, and the world-building is clever and fun.
Characters: we start off with the Mc, Harmonu, a maid in Coofly Manor. She has magical powers but can't afford going out to train them up, until lord Tyler asks her to accompany him to the local dungeon. She is a fun character to read with well-written and engaging internal thoughts.
The other main character seems to be the lecherous Lord Tyler who is a bit of a dick, he's funny though, and seems to try to be a nice guy despite the aforementioned lechery. He is a very funny character.
Style: this story is very funny, right of the bat we get started with a humorous narration and a bizarre fantasy setting that is sure to delight everyone that reads it. The story is a litrpg but it takes a few chapters to get there.
Story: the story starts off almost slice of life anime maid in a manor, but picks up fairly quickly as the MC ends up getting tasked to join Lord Tyler in a dungeon where she will use her magic to level up.
Grammar: I noticed no major grammar issues. - Polvane the EraserRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Binged this story over the course of 2 days. Very funny and very practical look at how necromancy and the arts of a maid and beautician intersect and synergize.
I admire Harmony's guts and ambition to be nothing like yet also better than her mother, who threw her out for choosing the necromancer class.
I love love love the allusions to characters of other stories like Zachary Atwood (Defiance of the Fall) and Grave of the Fireflies and even A Song of Ice and Fire (Uncle Benji). - PagetHereRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Honestly. I'm not really a lover of necromancy it tends to be rather overdone. However this is a unique take on it with interesting and likeable characters. Only issue i think are the one or two mistakes but thats neither here nor there. Very interesting story. Looking forward to more. Thanks ^_^
- Dungeon_Core_FanRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Most people get into necromancy with dreams of conquering the world with armies of the undead. Harmony (the protagonist) became a necromancer because it made cleaning easier.
After all, most dust is just dead skin cells. And insta-kill spells are wonderful for clearing out spiders, cockroaches, and other vermin, even for a low-level necromancer like her. The ability to manipulate dead tissue even helps Harmony style her wealthy employers' hair.
Having a protagonist who is still part of mainstream society, and has to earn a paycheck from such a mundane job gives an otherwise generic System/LitRPG novel a wonderfully distinct flavor. I picked up Maid with Necromancy to kill some time waiting for the release of an entirely different story . . .and quickly read the whole thing.
There's a lot of good color here. Harmony's employers - while not as out there as the Addams family or the Munsters - are . . . "interesting" in a Victorian Gothic sense. Harmony primarily works for the twenty-something heir, Tyler, an aspiring adventurer. Cooking, cleaning, and occasionally engaging in S&M bondage to "help him improve his resistances" in exchange for access to his collection of books and weird artifacts to improve her skills.
(It's actually not that sexual - although it could easily go that way in the future. I get the impression that Tyler has a bit of a crush on her. Enough that he doesn't want to radically abuse his authority and force himself on her, but at the same time not really sophisticated enough to seduce her. Just enough to annoy her, but also give her leverage)
The story is (unfortunately) less original when it comes to the System/adventuring aspect. Other than some Pokemon influences, it's a very standard approach, with Skills, levels, people doing dungeon dives to unlock new classes . . .Although we do get to see a lot of noncombat skills, as Harmony uses [Dust] and [Poise and Bearing] on a daily basis in her maid job, while other coworkers have their own
