Even if he succeeds, that's only the beginning. Welcome to Magical Engineering.

- TensRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Halfway through chapter one my opinion of this changed from 'something to read while weiting on other stories' to 'I need more now!'.
It's a complicated but highly readable tale that I don't fully understand but that is one of the things that keeps me wanting more - I can't predict in the slightest what is going to happen next (nothing worse than an easily predictable plot).
I'd highly recommend reading this. - ZyratilRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like this story and its general upbeat pacing. My only difficulty with reading this story, and its a small one, is that I have trouble visualizing a lot of the characters and monsters. I have a general feel for most things but little reminders for how the characters look would be really helpful.
- MrMikeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As someone who's been reading for decades I find this very entertaining. While a little heavy on the abilities etc I am sure that some people would absolutely enjoy it. What I love is the way the characters interact.
I'm reading other stories with dungeon cores and incorporating them into non weapons seems like a really interesting take - SurbrisRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hello, my name is Sirbris. I started reading this book and ended up binging all 231 chapters in just three days—it’s that good. I’m eagerly looking forward to the intense battle coming in chapter 232. Without giving away any spoilers, I can say the story is well written, the characters are fully fleshed out, and the system at the heart of the book is absolutely fascinating. This is truly a must read for anyone looking for an engaging, enjoyable story. Please don’t stop writing!
- DreamTheaterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I like following this story and have a lot of fun with it. It's not perfect, it has it's flaws and the amount of engineering is underwhelming unfortunately, but it is very much fun to read.
One of the biggest strengths of the story is the world and the snippets of information thrown in on the side. It gives you the feeling of how small and unimportant a part earth is in comparison to the whole while the story concentrates just on one man, his family and the town he's building. For now.
He does own a universe after all. - MoaZedonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style:
The style is great. The way of writing matches perfectly with the faintly humourous way of narration to feel well rounded. The author does a good job of having new characters and species often enough to not let you forget the setting, but spending enough that they each have time to develop. Interactions are well written, with just enough dramatic irony.
I generally don't like comedy books, and I stand by that. However, this book does incorporate the authors sense of humour (in my opinion) very well. It differs from comedies in that any jokes are entirely optional and don't have bearing on the plot.
Story:
The story is great, but it takes quite a while to get to much engineering. The mc only acheives a single feat of engineering before chapter 50. Otherwise, all my previous complaints have been addressed, but beware the slow start.
The extracts after each chapter are awesome. You end up feeling invested in the lives of totally random aliens, and it's a nice way to fit in some world building too.
I was a little put out by the description of the 'magical circuit'. I will explain the problem(s) but expect minor spoilers and extreme nit-picking. Only read if you like slightly agressive info dumps.
Dave certainly makes(steals) some discovery, but it is unclear what it is. The computer comparisons sound like binary logic gates. In the descriptions the components function like manually controlled transistors, which are very far from computers or logic gates. The diagram on the cover shows integrated circuits, but lacking any input data. Based on the title and description I expected a lot better detail with regards to the 'engineering'. There is mention of the circuit bring able to handle more power as he levels up. It takes a lot of handwavery to avoid this change of material properties breaking everything.
The parts are definitely all related, but I'll explain the differences: Transistors are either big and clunky like old vacuum tubes, or tiny miracles of material - James CarterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0When I saw the title pop up on my Reddit feed I thought I'd have a look to see if it was here.
It would seem that in this case the old joke, don't tap on the glass, you'll scare the engineers requires an addendum. Don't tap on the glass because Dave may tap back or start asking questions about the universe.
All that being said, I have completely enjoyed my time devouring this book. I am not done reading all of the chapters but what I have read so far scratches all the right places in my brain. - FaginRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far it's been such a great read. Some of the best writing from stories on here and some really good pacing that spends time developing the world and characters. The excerpts from books in the world at the end of each chapter are one of my favourite parts and really adds a feeling of depth to the world. Can't wait to see what the rest of the story has in store.
- KrutoniumRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly, I basically picked this up on a whim, and then accidentally read 66 chapters in a day. It's *fantastic*, from the world building to the characters and everything in between. I'm excited to see where everything goes next, and curious to see what the US Government thinks when they find out!
- dnaworksRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm a sucker for rules-based magic systems with a minimum of hand-wavium, and this story fits that to a 'T'. Spoilers below; however, once you've read a few chapters, they'll not be of consequence. The idea of the orb pathways following electrical circuits is fascinating, as is the rigor surrounding the discussion. The author has only moved somewhat along the path, but I look forward to seeing crunchier and heavier analogies later.I'm also enjoying the gradual reveal of the MC's backstory and history; it's doled out to titillate but not overwhelm. Worth the read - looking forward to the rest of the story.
