Description
It's the future of social media, VR, and AI development and Janet is sentenced to two years in reality TV for being too much of an introvert. Now it's a like-or-death world for her with an AI set of prison guards that are as interested in ratings as her rehabilitation.
Mostly satire from a very neurodiverse perspective that makes fun of the moo-vers and shakers of the world and how their whims trickle down to affect the rest of us shmucks.

- Clara CatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book brilliantly captures the essence of a futuristic world where artificial intelligence and human creativity collide. Janet is portrayed as a fiercely independent and intelligent character who refuses to be manipulated by the anyone. Go her! Her steadfastness in protecting her intellectual property rights, even at the cost of her freedom, is a powerful statement about personal integrity and creative ownership. The dialogue throughout the book is expertly crafted, with each scene feeling so real and human, especially with the AI characters. The setting of the story, where AIs perform most tasks better than humans, provides a fascinating backdrop for the narrative. The author's exploration of the implications of this technology, particularly in terms of intellectual property and creative rights, is both timely and enlightening. The AI characters, like Grace and the World AI, add an extra layer of complexity to the story, highlighting the nuanced relationships between humans and machines. The game-like elements, such as character sheets and stat points, add a unique and engaging twist to the narrative, espesically with the non-tradiational stats based on a popularty-contest-type system. Overall, this book is a captivating and thought-provoking read that delivers on an exciting and intellectually stimulating story. The author's ability to create a richly detailed world and compelling characters makes this book an absolute must-read for anyone who likes to get lost in a dytopian world a little closer to home.
- Noah BlackRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I though this book was going to be stupid and fluffy, but, man was I wrong. This book offers a fascinating glimpse into a dystopian world where the lines between human creativity and artificial intelligence blur. The author's skillful use of dialogue brings the characters to life and Miss Mosely emerges as a strong-willed and savvy individual. Her defiance in the face of manipulative corporate interests is both inspiring and nerve-wracking. This book is a compelling and thought-provoking read and a gripping tale of defiance, creativity, and technological intrigue. The author's ability to blend futuristic elements with a strong, character-driven plot makes this book basically impossible to put down. I didn't want to like this book, but I couldn't stop turning pages.
- Story TravelerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book is a thrilling and intricately woven tale that encapsulates the core themes of power dynamics, intellectual property rights, and personal integrity. Janet is a formidable character who refuses to be cowed by anyone in the story, whether it be the World AI, the psychologist from the real world, or the sly and manipulative Mr. Slick. The tension is palpable through all her struggles throughout the story and it really makes you feel for her situation. The interactions between Mosely and the AI characters, particularly Grace and the World AI, are particularly intriguing. They provide a glimpse into the nuanced relationships between humans and artificial intelligence, raising thought-provoking questions about autonomy and cooperation. Janet's camaraderie with her AI companions adds depth to her character, showcasing her ability to navigate this high-tech world with both wit and empathy. This book is a captivating blend of suspense, clever dialogue, and futuristic intrigue. It promises a compelling narrative that explores the intersection of human creativity and artificial intelligence, making it a gripping read for people who want's a super twist on the old and tired man vs. machine/evil AI trope.
- ahoge_birdRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: This is my preface to say I don't usually like to read satire because it ends up being too heavy (I prefer watching/listening, because you're guaranteed to finish within 2 hours tops), so this book is a new favorite for me! This is like a written version of South Park, but the author is so skilled she can paint the scene with only words.
Style: Good pacing, easy to follow along, clean and efficient prose. What I especially like about this book is how it handles the satire. When I'm in the mental state to consider philosophy, the satire is there for me to ponder. When I'm not and just want to read mindlessly, I can still read this book and have fun! The author's storyweaving skills are marvelous.
Story: Fascinating premise, and yet...not too unrealistic to be obviously fantastical. It's a very good thought experiment, and somehow simultaneously makes me enjoy the story and reflect on / be grateful for my life as it is.
Grammar: No major issues. Typos/grammatical mistakes are quickly fixed when caught
Character: Totally believable characters, both human and AI. Poor Janet, but also...*cough* she kinda deserves it *cough*. Anyway: complex, 3D characters = check!
