Book 6 will release on the 20th
An age has passed, a blight curses the land, and one hero stands above the rest to restore the balance.
Verdan Blacke is an Imperial Wizard, a researcher by preference but soldier by necessity. Surviving an intense battle, Verdan is cursed by a hex witch in her final moments. Without any good options, Verdan escapes the ever-increasing pain the curse inflicts by performing a self-made stasis ritual.
When the spell fades, and he has awoken, Verdan finds a world completely different from the one he left behind. Dark things work in daylight with impunity, once common knowledge is a mystery, and even the nature of magic that humans use has changed.
One wizard, a million problems, and the wrath of profound magic.

- AthyriumRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0In many ways this reminds me of a typical regression story, except that it's the future. It's similar to Legend of the Arch Magus in the regard, but without the massive ego. It's a very good balance between slice of life and action. The characters are likeable and interesting, the setting is great, and the magic system is simple but interesting.
The writing is good too. It's a good story. Can't wait to read more. - DisgruntoadRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Reminiscent of Essence of Cultivation, Arcane Awakening is truly a hidden gem of Royal Road. Pulling together a number of magical traditions, Arcane Awakening offers a unique premise, interesting plot, and strong worldbuilding. The main character is intelligent and powerful without being OP. He has a lot of potential to grow, and the world has many mysteries to discover.
Few notes to the author:
1) A lot of your characters have a habit of becoming yes-wizard people with some minor token conflict (eg city guards, witch, & businessman) while villains seem to fall into the Xiania trope (arrogant young master). That's fine for a few, but your story would be served by giving people independent and conflicting motivations and more distinct characterizations. You've certainly started to do this with your unique POV's, but you need to develop their unique motivations more imo.
2) Try to be more subtle--- a lot of the time you tell readers how to feel / interpret event. Instead, just describe what happens and allow us to draw our own conclusions. You have a bit of a habit of doing this.
Writing here is overall excellent and I love the story, especially how you blend together multiple magic systems so naturally. I think working on the two points I mention above will really elevate your skill. Best of luck and looking forward to the rest of your tale! - Elemental1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This novel is well worth your time!
It has:
* Been well written.
* Characters that are engaging and have clear rational motivations.
* A novel premise (at least for me).
* What feel like a deep and rich world (this is a big one for me).
I highly recommend this book! - EphemeralDustRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a very well written, thought out and engaging story. Truly a diamond that is being overlooked. I read a lot of stories on here, check my profile for it, and this one is very much worth your time to check out. The pacing is a little on the slower side but you can feel progress and what it is building towards. I don't have any complaints and am looking forward to each chapter.
- XelRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style:
Nothing says style like playing it smart and sleeping away the world's version of Ragnarok!
There's massive style in starting the story off with a proper explanation of why sleeping is a valuable health aide. It slips away from the common tropes, and uses a twist on Sleeping Beauty to get the MC into play.
Story:
Logical. Understandable. Not a power fantasty. No current plot holes spotted. There are enough chapters to be interesting, but not really enough to satisfy. I like how the MC plans out his steps, even if he's winging some of those plans based on what little he knows now.
Grammar:
Looks good to me, but then I use Grammarly so what do I know.
Really not a grammar guru so take this one with a grain of salt.
Character:
There's alot of current stuff hidden since the poor chap just woke up. He's weak, but that's compared to the titans of his era. The MC is definitely grounded, and understands his situation isn't cupcakes and roses. Hard to know how the character will swing but in the few situations shown so far he isn't a pushover, and doesn't bow to the odds. Looks like a great future Tower type! - raizer666Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0TLDR
The story is good enough that I wrote a big review for it, so what are you waiting for and try it!
This story is a gem in the making. Yes, almost every reviewer writes this sentence, but I do mean that, however. If you like what you see in the Tags go and read. The quality of this story is a good chuck above the average RR Story. Quality-wise I would say it's on the same level as the "Apocalypse: Generic System" series.
Story
The story is set in an original High-Fantasy-Universe, where magic and other supernatural phenomenon are commonplace and have a significant impact on the day-to-day life of its inhabitants. Magic users are revered and consider themselves more than mortal, while the mundane populace is considered little more than pawns. Humanity is reduced to a shadow of what they once were, while not being blameless for its downfall. The world outside of walled-off city-states is hostile and filled with races besides humans, some of which are more than just sapient. Prejudice runs rampant amongst humans against everything that does not conform to perceived norms and values and especially everything that is not human.
The MC is thrust into this world after receiving a grievous wound in battle that forced them into stasis that lasted an untold amount of time. After waking the MC finds themself in a world that is unrecognizable to them and so different that it might as well be a whole new world. Coming from a time when human empires were at the height of their might this new world challenges everything that they know is true and right. It seems humanity lived through countless calamities and had to forge a new path into their future, a path that left behind the world that the MC knew and held dear. With that came a loss in knowledge, one so great, that the legacies of empires past are almost forgotten and reduced to mere stories and superstition. Now, the MC is the last living legacy of humanity's apex.
Story-wise it's original and well executed, I wrote the - askeriRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Really excited to see where this story goes! I'm hoping a kingdom-building story is being set up of some sort. The whole addiction arc was very well executed and humanizing, and the author pulled it off really well which is a good show of technical skill. Some arcs tend to lag and there's some chapters I barely skim because not much happens, but overall this is a good story with the best of both the 'MC using knowledge his to advantage' and 'MC gets to discover and learn about a whole new system'.
- VeivisurterRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Binged this over the last day and a half, and I have quite enjoyed it. Its not isekia per se, but shares alot of the same tropes.
- displaced mc (in this case time)
- knowledgeable mc (in this case lost knowledge)
Grammar and worldbuilding are top notch, and while the general plot beats are nothing new they are well done.
I only have a few criticisms really.
1) The story feels like it suffers a bit from the rpg trope of 'the mc walks into the town/forest/ruins and is immediately presented with a problem they should solve' mechanic, and is not quite organic enough to come across as natural. Its close, but not quite there.
2) The mc is a bit too much of a white night in that everything he does is done with a bit too much superiority and I know best attitude. Heck, the mc even acknowledges it to himself a couple of times for what its worth. (I do have to state that this looks intentional enough on the part of the author that it is probably there for later character growth material, but it is there so be warned.)
3) Some of the side characters come across as a bit of a yes man for the main character after very little effort by the mc to get them on his side. (I'm looking at you Tobias, Silver, and Commander Griffin.) This would be easily fixed by the author expanding on the efforts of the mc to bring them around rather than have it happen over the course of very short conversations like what happens each time. They need a reason to trust and invest in the mc other than 'well, he seemed like a swell guy, gosh darn' attitude that they end up adopting.
All in all, I have found it to be a quite pleasant romp through fantasy land, and recommend it to anyone interested in reading about adventury wizarding things and really interesting magic systems. (you heard me right. multiple magic systems that work together and against eachother!) So go check it out if that sounds like its up your alley. - apflbaumRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Really good and interesting novel so far. My complain would be the very righteous and easy characters so far. I would love some conflict, different believes and more characters out of line. The mc is also a bit flat as well. He is knowledgeable but I could'nd pin out his distinct character features because he has none. His sidekicks are all very good guys with little character traits. I feel a bit bored sometimes because of this but the worldbuilding and storytelling is making up for it
- MundanemanRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I am really enjoying this story so far. It's a fun "culture clash" plot with a fair amount of action and no major problems.
The characters are all likable and seem to have interesting storylines building, though I will say that they sometimes feel a little flat. As an example, the MC, Verdan, is intelligent, ethical, sociable, and decisive, he doesn't have any real flaws or hangups, and so far the only people he doesn't almost immediately win over to his side are pretty transparently villainous. All of this is totally fine, and is common in other great stories on RR, like "Beware of Chicken", but the end result is that the characters just don't feel completely fleshed out.
The grammar and spelling are also quite good; I've only noticed a few typos.
I can't detect much of a distinctive style just yet, but the writing isn't bland or boring in any way. While I do enjoy a story with a unique voice, it's hardly a dealbreaker when the plot and characters can keep my attention.
If you like this story, you might also enjoy "". Like TEoC, which unfortunately has been placed on indefinite hiatus, AA brings a wizard into a world of (sort-of) cultivators. TEoC does a more direct magic-vs-cultivation story, with heavier reliance on Western and Eastern tropes, but AA definitely gives off a similar vibe, even if its sorcerors aren't quite the same as xianxia-style cultivators. The main characters are also fairly similar- kind-hearted magic users with more interest in research than combat, but with enough combat experience to be formidable when pressed.
I personally find the magic and cultivation systems in TEoC (and the unifying system that connects them) more interesting than the one in AA, but AA is still in the early stages and I'm sure it will feel more complete as the story progresses.
