- HaydenHudsonRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This tale of young adventurers following, what appears to be, a well-trodden path to riches and renown begins at a good clip and evolves with neat pacing. There is ample mystery, particularly with the origins of the main character, to draw readers into the next chapter.
The tense and timing of the prologue and first chapter is very quirky and, whether or not it was deliberate, truly adds to the fogginess and uncertainty experienced by the main character.
This author certainly has a distinct style which become more natural to follow as the chapters progress. I scored that style high as it was refreshingly unconventional once I’d got somewhat used to it.
The grammar could do with some work in places, yet again it is more when viewed through a conventional editorial lens than whether it distracts from proceedings.
The story so far is engaging and evolving however it feel very dependent on the blossoming interaction between the characters and the inherent mystery of our MC’s situation. My scoring is in favour of character work over story work however I hope this will balance out as we progress deeper into the narrative.
Overall I found it a stimulating romp of a read once I’d overcome the unfamiliar style of the first few chapters. Looking forward to reading more. - silver_oreRoyal Road★★★ 3.0This is a novel which seems straight up like wish-fulfillment. At the start Atom is a 35 year old simp that makes hudden realms for those who are more talented than him.
After being turned into a pill, he realises his mistakes and consumes some tribulation beings to become more powerful. After clashing with a genie he gets trapped in a box for 'hungry ghosts' which are creatures that eat souls.
Even before he gets trapped there is smut, however it is my opinion that whatever good the first chapter does, the later ones annihilate. This is supposed to be cultivation, not smut that grants an incel his sex life. As of writing this two whole chapters were smut and it seems that the author will want to focus on that.
The story which i mentioned above is interesting. In xianxia we normally see someone who even when talentless succeeds before they start balding.
The author writes in a way that makes reading easy however due to the fact that there is a lot of smut, it gets buried by a badly written fan-fiction detailing a teenager's favourite characters.
Not only does the smut destroy the style and story, it also fucks up the grammar. While reading the opening chapters you might find a couple of grammar errors that do not impact the enjoyability of the novel, however the new chapters just suck.
The focus characters feel fleshed out, you can understand their goals and motivation, we do see a couple of 'young master' types but it is mostly played for jokes. Even the smut ghost can be explained however feels like a sex doll. The new people we see in the chapters feel like a bad joke told by that one family member. Excessively sexualised and one dimesional.
The sneak peak showed the main character as an improved version of himself and in my opinion his stay in the box should just be a time-skip without unnecessary sexual content shoved down the reader's throat.
