Description
In the endless cycle that is life, what does it take to persevere?
Marilyn Althorn once lived a life filled with tragedy. She lost her father and endured neglect and abuse from her grieving mother. She longed for happiness but could never attain it, and after enduring for so long, she chose to end her own life.
Yet in an ironic twist of fate, she was reborn into another world, no longer able to die, as even the end refused to claim her.
She found herself in a world of the fantastical and technological—a world of magic, possibilities, and heroism. She had been chosen.
Now reliving life again as a child, Marilyn is left to sort through the traumas of her past upbringing isolated and emotionally unequipped. And despite the shining light from her new family, the world she has been brought into has a real and pressing darkness. Can she move forward and rekindle hope for her new life, or will the new world finally snuff it out?
What to expect from this story:
- A noble-dark progression isekai that focuses not on just strength, but also character interactions and development.
- A lovable weak to strong female MC that you can cheer and root for.
- Two different systems, one for the MC personally and one worldwide, the latter gamifying the world through litRPG elements such as levels and titles, capable of being raised through training.
- A story of perseverance, bonds, and realising one's goal of happiness in spite of it all!
- The story can get dark and depressing when needed, so buckle up when that tone shift comes! A similar warning will be put out whenever it happens.

- KyshiesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So, I think the most interesting aspect of this story (for me, anyway) is that the story starts with the MC committing suicide after a lifetime of trauma, and that lifetime of trauma follows them into their new life. Usually, you would think that after the MC dies and reincarnates, everything is peachy keen, but no! It's quite an interesting dichotomy to witness as the MC tries to come to terms with their own abusive past while living the life they've always wanted (i.e. to be loved by a loving family). It's an interesting dynamic to witness, for sure! The action scenes and the magic system and the world building are also done pretty well - it has the makings of a weak-to-strong MC story, if you are into that sort of webnovel story.
That said, I do feel that the writing can use a bit of a touch-up, grammar-wise. The text randomly slips into present tense (it should be mostly past tense since the story is being told in 3rd person POV). I would suggest that the author do a re-write of the existing chapters to fix the errors. Also, I would say that the first chapter is a bit dark due to the themes it touches on (suicide, domestic abuse), but it's not a bad thing since it sets up the MC's motivations and provides a reason as to why they are the way they are, despite being put into a good new life from their reincarnation. - SilverbladeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I approached this story with curiosity and a hint of skepticism. To my surprise, I found a refreshing narrative that, while not dark, delivered depth and a character-driven experience that truly resonated with me. The author skilfully portrays the main character’s mental state, allowing me to connect with her emotions and experiences on a profound level. This isn’t just another action-adventure tale; there’s a contemplative quality that imbues each moment with significance.
The readability of the story is commendable. I was effortlessly swept away by the engaging prose, which balances intense moments with emotional depth, crafting a slow burn that enriches the plot. The pacing allows for a deeper understanding of the characters, making their struggles feel real and relatable.
In the latest chapter, the fight scenes are exhilarating, showcasing the author’s creativity. Marilyn’s spellcasting, especially her stunning technique of channeling energy towards the sun, creates a visually striking moment that pulls you into the action. The teamwork among the characters as they confront the dragon and its minions feels authentic, elevating the stakes and making each hard-fought victory feel earned.
While the pacing may take time to build, the eventual payoff is rewarding, as we witness the characters evolve and confront their challenges. I particularly appreciate that, despite my usual reservations about female leads, this novel has completely won me over. The protagonist is written with depth and complexity, defying typical portrayals and providing a compelling mix of emotional nuance and exhilarating action.
Overall, this novel stands out as a refreshing take on the genre. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a thoughtful and engaging read that offers a blend of character exploration and thrilling adventures. It's a journey worth taking! - LittleSkellyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Disclaimer: This is for a review swap
I want to first start this thing off by saying it's a very wonderful story. Beautifully done and very captivating. It has been a long while since I read something that elicited such a strong emotional response in me. Do be warned though any potential readers. This story does have a lot of topics that may be uncomfortable such as depression, child abuse, etc. Not too much, but it can be triggering for some. Please tread carefully.
Now with that said, let's get on with the review.
Story: This story, while it is your standard isekai one, offers a lot of unique things to the table.
For one thing, it doesn't let the protagonist of the story just forget about her past and treat it like an afterthought. The author, not only bring the past back, showing how it still affected the mc, but also does it in a very respectful way. This is something that I really appreciate. I have seen quite a lot of stories revolving around these topics before and oftentimes, it was not...great.
I was a bit hesitant when first seeing the synopsis, but decided to go through with reading it based on just what I skim read in the first few chapters. I'm glad I did because the story is very beautifully written and I like seeing the growth and slow healing our little protagonist go through.
I would've like for there to be more time showing the little healing process, but as the story stands right now, I think it's doing just fine.
Style: Very beautifully done. No complaints.
Character: Lovely set of memorable and lovable characters. I like the characterization of everyone and how they feel so much like real, living-breathing characters.
The mc is a very loveable girl and someone you can't help but cheer on.
It's very nice, especially, that the author shows how the other characters react to the protagonist's behaviors caused by trauma. I don't think I've seen a lot of this in the media.
Grammar: Based on what I've seen so far, there doesn't seems to be any signific - LightxisRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Like the title of my review, the starting of the story is a banger. It starts with showcasing intense emotions and capitalizes on them in the starting arc. The MC is female and is well written, especially her fears and thoughts. Though her tendency of diving headfirst into danger and self harm sets off a little heavy feeling, Marilyn makes it up with her character.
Style
The author has a gentle yet impactful style, crafting an atmosphere that feels both melancholic and hopeful. The pacing is deliberate, allowing for deep emotional moments to settle in without rushing to the next event.
The prose isn’t overly complex, which makes the story accessible, yet there are times when the narrative takes on a poetic quality, especially during reflective scenes. It’s clear that every word is chosen to evoke a feeling, and it works well for this character-driven story.
Story
The story of Marilyn’s second chance at life is beautifully paced, with a focus on personal growth rather than action-packed sequences. The plot explores heavy themes like trauma and perseverance without shying away from their impact, and it’s refreshing to see an isekai that doesn’t immediately sweep away the protagonist’s past struggles and flashbacks are nice reads.
While the pacing may feel slow to some, it gives enough space for meaningful character interactions.
My only critique is the magic system for me its too based on mysticism- belief and power of visualization than a complex spellcasting but it suits the atmosphere of the novel well.
Grammar
The grammar is clean, and the writing flows smoothly. There are a few minor issues here and there, but nothing that disrupts the overall reading experience. The author’s command of language adds to the immersive quality of the story.
Character
Marilyn is a standout protagonist. Her internal struggles and slow healing mental trauma process are handled with care, making her a character you root for from the beginning.
Despite my initial reservations about a fe - GanuRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I don’t usually read Isekai novels—last one I picked up was TBATE, and after that, I just couldn’t get into them. Isekai manga and anime are different, but when it comes to novels, I’m hesitant. Also, I’m not a big fan of female protagonists in action-adventure stories, because a lot of the time, the focus is more on how beautiful or curvy they are, while the character is written like a typical male lead.
This story actually solves both of those issues for me. While the isekai setting is pretty standard, the focus is more on the characters than the world itself. The MC is female and actually feels like it—her emotions and experiences are written in a way that really drew me in and made me connect with her throughout the story.
This story has a really engaging and introspective vibe, especially with how it balances the emotional struggles of the characters with some beautiful, almost whimsical scenery.
The writing style feels very calm and reflective, which works well for the themes of self-discovery and dealing with personal fears. As for grammar, everything flows smoothly. There aren’t any glaring issues, and the dialogue feels natural—nothing feels forced or out of place.
Story-wise, it takes a while to build, but that works in its favor because you really get to know how the characters are feeling. The mix of everyday life and deeper emotional reflections gives it a thoughtful tone.
The characters themselves are relatable, especially with their doubts and desires. Overall, if you’re into character-driven stories with a calm, reflective atmosphere, this is worth checking out! - BillUnderBridgeRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I like this story quite a lot. It is an interesting almost poetic melancholy off-beat adventure.
Style
The story has a slow but intentional pace. It focuses heavily on trying to set a reminiscent and almost wistful vibe through out the entire first arc. There is a tendency for direct statements of characters feelings that does have very eastern elements that fit well for isekai. At time especially in chapter 1 the story picks up an almost poetry like cadence that hits just right.
Story
The story is about someone having to pick themselves up and try again. That concept speaks to me. I respect the story for taking the swing for the fences with it. The dark subject matter does contrast well with finding a reason to live.
Grammar
The story has a few mistakes here and there, but nothing significant to report.
Character
Marilyn is at the beginning a sad character trying to figure out what to do after trying to end it all. For the most part, this works very well, and is quite satisfying watching them form connections with a new world and the people in it. that said the side characters are a bit thin and I would like to see them fleshed out more as the story goes on. - Radiant ShadowsRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Where do I start? I actually found the story very interesting but hard to get into. Chapter 1 hits you like a brick and not in a good way. I won't consider it spoilers since it is the very first chapter but it starts with the mc committing suicide. Speaking of the MC, I was not particularly fond of their character. Self harm and it's associated problems are something I am familiar with and I'd never read a story where that was how things start but it really threw me. Don't get me wrong it doesn't seem to stay a dark gritty dark fantasy type story or anything. The story is actually slow to start and get into during the first arc at least. I think it was enjoyable to read and definitely earned it rating! (4* is pretty good) I'll keep reading it as well. I don't know if I can update my review later or not but I think if you can get past the start you can expect a good story that you can casually read through without needing to turn the page at every paragraph. The start is rough though so for people who have had that kind of struggle it may be a bit much to read about a different thought perspective.
- BookofStrangeThingsRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This story isn't bad, let me get that out of the way. It's been an enjoyable read, even if it isn't something I can see myself finishing. The writing can be a tad confusing, in the sense that I have gone past surprised and am now just confused with the author's decisions, but the characters are okay, the writing has few, if any, errors, and the story is moving at a decent pace. If you are looking for any sort of drama or emotional payoff, skip the whole beginning of the story, there is none to be found before chapter 14.
Now, starting with style, this story is a strange one. The author prefaces that any litrpg elements won't appear till basically chapter 14, and this is true. The problem I have is essentially just that the author writes like they're narrating a dnd game or a play. Everything has to feel dramatic and verbose, and as one of my favorite characters once said, "When everyone's special, no one is." On the flip side, unlike many other stories, the author is giving me descriptions of things, even if I don't like how they do it, and that is always a plus.
I'm not super far, but also I don't really see myself going much further. I was excited for the school arc, at least a tiny bit, but...
The whole thing with Wonderland and Sophia or whatever is a definite turn-off for me. The mysterious benefactor thing doesn't work when they act like Sophia does. It's really just not what I expected to see/expected to happen, and I'm not into it. Sophia drops a bunch of bombs, but does so in such a nonchalant manner it ruined all suspense or interest in me to see more about it. Aside from that, the main character's weird immortality is left unexplained, unexplained, and just untalked about for too long...
... and the magic system of this story is, at least before any system elements come in, just using your imagination in the least cool way I can imagine. MC does say magic words, but it's literally stated that that is some sort of tradition, and incredibly vague and uninte
