That's pretty important. Here's another story you can add to your collection. Namely one set in Transformers Prime. This one is a Shockwave self insert, just in case that part wasn't obvious. :V(Cover art commissioned by myself and done by the artist Porukima-thus entirely human made!)

- DracoyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I haven't watched Transformers Prime in a while, I'm a little vague on the details, but it used to be one of my favorite shows, so reading this has been a blast! (I know this is a bit of a run-on sentence, but I'm too tired to try and fix it so). Anyway, I could go on about what exactly is great, but there is quite a bit. So, this would either be a pretty long review... or I could just go tell you to read it for yourself. Which is what I'm gonna do. Stop reading the reviews and start reading the story. You won't be let down, (assuming you like this genre in the first place). I'm gonna go check out the authors other story now.
- MidnightRangerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If the author's other story (Stupid Rock Lady) has told me anything. It's that this fella can write some damn good fanfiction. If it goes in any way like his other story (which it is from what I've seen so far) then this is gonna be another amazing fanfic, with a very little touched on franchise as well. I can't wait for more chapters. Keep up the good work Spyder.
- PoitjieRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First fanfic I've ever read and wow it's good. There are a lot of concepts I don't know/remember on account of the fact it's been more than a decade since I've watched the show. However, the novel is still easy to follow and any confusing concepts are a simple google search away. Beginning is good and the characters feel fleshed out and animated. The isekai bit has simultaneously a minor and major impact on the story, in a good way. Good stuff, can't wait for more.
- CedarfeverRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0It's easily readable with consistent characterization and a solid internal voice for the main character. I've yet to notice any errors in grammar or spelling. I'm not very well versed in Transformers, so I may be missing mischaracterization of certain canon figures, but that seems unlikely given the quality of the rest of the text.
All in all a very solid fic so far. My only gripe is that the author doesn't spend much time on descriptive text. They assume you already know what everything looks like, and skim past the appearances of people and places. If you don't know what TFP Megatron looks like, then you're shit out of luck. Locations like the inside of a decepticon ship and the surface of post-war cybertron would be fascinating to see through the author's eye, but we just don't get that.
That being said, I'm very excited to see the rest of the story. - John Dyr ClassicRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I enjoyed the initial setup of this story. However, as the story goes on, I feel like it’s drifting into "unserious" territory in a way that’s killing the immersion for me.
The biggest issue is the protagonist’s characterization. We’re told he has these logic-reinforcing programs, but the longer the story goes on, the more he mostly acts like a standard hero with a savior complex. He just feels like a "human in a robot suit" rather than a cold, calculating scientist struggling with his new nature.
This shift gets even more distracting when the Predacons start acting like they’ve spent too much time on Earth’s internet. Seeing hyper-advanced, ancient machines talking and acting like modern internet trolls feels out of place, especially when the plot is building up to a massive threat like an anti-spark god. It turns what started as a serious, high-stakes story into something that feels a bit more like a "crack-fic."
I had hoped for a more emotionless or at least emotionally numbed MC, but it barely feels like he has any of those traits, despite it being mentioned multiple times, and I just can't immerse myself in the story when, for no reason, everyone just seems to have their personalities shaped by Earth's internet culture.
They are about to fight this anti-spark evil god, and everyone just seems so unserious.
The style and grammar are great, so at least in my opinion, if the story delivered more on what it promised, it could have been a much more enjoyable read. - OddmonRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Well written, and I assume it’s a decent fanfic for the Transformers universe? I say “assume” because other than watching the Shia Lebouf movie almost two decades ago, I don’t know anything about Transformers.
Which brings me to the biggest problem with this fanfic, and the majority of fanfics in general: almost no context is given or explained for the world, people, or events therein; it’s mostly mentioned briefly in passing. There is a heavy assumption that the reader will know as much as the author, and that they can fill in the details themselves.
To prove my point, the author’s synopsis states: “This one is a Shockwave self insert, just in case that part wasn't obvious. :V” It absolutely was not obvious to me in any way, shape, or form, but the author wrote it as if it should have been. I wasn’t told what the main character looks like (beyond being a one-eyed robot, which could easily be a cylon instead), or what their world looks like, or what their motivations are supposed to be… simply put, I don’t know what this story is about, because it wasn’t described to me well enough.
Does this make for a bad story? Yes: no good story would fail to introduce the world, plot points, and its own main character. Does this make for a bad fanfiction? Not necessarily: if you’re part of the niche Transformers audience, or feel like you can ‘pick up’ the details well enough or ignore what you don’t know, then maybe you can forge ahead.
As always with a fanfiction like this: it’s up to you to decide whether you want to understand the world beyond what the author is showing, because their story doesn’t really ‘story’ enough for someone outside of the niche.
