Description

He dies. He returns. He adapts. The fog devours all. It blankets the world, birthing monsters, and hunting anyone who strays beyond the failing wards. Humanity hides behind invisible barriers, their once-great civilization reduced to scattered districts clinging to the remnants of lost knowledge and technology. Then came Omen. A boy found wandering in the deadly fog—a boy who cannot stay dead. The day he arrived, countless wards collapsed. Some believe he is a harbinger of ruin. Others whisper that he is something far worse. For thousands of years, the grand city of Araksiun stood at the height of progress, wielding science and magic. But time and confinement have turned its wonders into myths, its inventions into sacred relics. The world beyond the wards is unknown. Forbidden. Omen refuses to live trapped behind dying wards. Each time he falls, he rises again—stronger. Changed. Adapted. He will push beyond the last safe places of mankind, no matter how many deaths it takes—because somewhere in the fog lies the key to breaking free. To reclaiming the world. What to Expect: Everything ever written is already published here. There’s no backlog or stockpile. I usually post twice a week, typically on Mondays and Fridays, though that might shift depending on the week. Each chapter ranging between 2,000 and 4,000 words. Eldritch horrors abound, inspired by many of Lovecraft’s monsters. Also, if you enjoyed The Painted Man, you might find familiar dynamics here. A post-apocalyptic world where society has crumbled, and the remnants of humanity cling to life within barriers that keep the deadly fog at bay. Discord

The story is pretty good, the premise is that everybody lives inside a huge city that is kinda like a dungeon, and the entire civilization is stuck inside wards that are inside this massive city. If they go out, they are hunted, and the story is about the protagonist exploring this city beyond the wards because guess what? Tun tun tun…
The MC is not hunted when he goes outside the ward
He fights the monsters and so on, but you get the point. There is an explanation for that, but I am not going into details. Actually, I have a complaint about that, the author goes into too much detail sometimes, not info dump, but actually trying to work some sense into fantasy.
Like, the MC is actually immortal. He dies but comes back, and the author used some kind of biological state that happens in real life. I googled to call bullshit, but wtf, there are actually immortal stuff in the real world. Wtf. Well, not actually immortal, but close to it.
Anyway, going back to the story, it’s very interesting. The character starts as a kid, and he acts like a kid most of the time while inside the ward. His situation at the start is not pretty, he is starving, but eventually he decides to test out the fog, and his condition makes him adapt after each fight. So from what I saw, he dies and comes back stronger and adapted based on his last fight and even with characteristics of what he was fighting against. The MC also likes to craft, and I enjoyed those scenes quite a bit. That might be a personal preference of mine, but it felt a lot better than simply buying the stuff.
Also, the protagonist does have an AI with some sort of system, but there is no evolution system. It’s an assistant that helps the protagonist, like a personal Google.

This is a really well written story.  Unique, with a fun mystery and absolutely worth a read.
The writing is professional quality -- grammar, spelling, sentence construction, etc... all show careful attention.  Though there are some odd tense choices, it seems more like a stylistic choice than a mistake.
The worldbuilding and overall story hook are really excellent, and the setting is evocative and atmospheric.
The plot itself is paced fairly slowly -- though it seems like it might be speeding up right around where I am now -- but the pacing fits the writing.
I really recommend giving this one a shot.

This novel is massively underated for the amount of followers it currently has. It's a post apocalyptic world with great storytelling, mystery, side characters that are well written and not forgotten and most importantly the world building here is insanely good!
What sold me on this novel was the fact that the mc is actually thoughtful and it shows. The fact that the politics aren't a drag to read also helped quite a bit. I have no critique for this novel.

If you like a thriller, a destitute and weak character turning strong, and an interesting world this one is worth the read. It strikes at themes of loneliness and alienation in a broken post apocalyptic world. It has interesting magic and laws that speak to Darwinism, but on a philosophical and experiential level.

The author draws you in as you follow Omen and discover the secrets of the fog that has been isolating and killing humNs for centuries. Well-written, few mistakes, no knowledge dumps that interrupt the story, and overall an imaginative work. Definitely recommend to those who like fantasy. I would buy.

The mystery behind "Omen's" nature has only grown further since the first chapter, and to avoid spoiling anything -however slight- for new readers, I won't elaborate more than that it has many interesting answers that come to my mind.
The nature of the world of the story being largely confined to districts of a single city is equally interesting, with artifacts of magic or technology, and even some form of preservation across the whole city, keeping structures standing and making food slower to spoil, contrasting the preserved structures with the dwindling supply of food.

    It's really good.
The concept is top tier... an ominous fog that hides untold dangers, humanity hiding in the few warded cities where only the bravest will brave the outside dangers, with the MC trying his best to survive in all this mess..  Epic. So this is a well deserved 5 stars for me.
That said there are a few things I noticed in the story that could have been handled better. So I’m gonna try to give some constructive criticism.
First of all world building. The concept is good, but I feel like it needs more details. Right now I'm still not clear how big these districts are, how many people they host. They are controlled by councils and noble families, but the only family ever mentioned is the one that ends up adopting the main character... little things like this are needed to make the story feel more immersive.
To be fair the story is in first person and the main character doesn’t give a crap about politics, so this lack of details can be justified. But still there are ways to do it.
Personally I think the story could benefit a lot from different POVs. Would be interesting to see what people think about Omen, and in general how they see the world from a prospective not as twisted as that on the MC.
As for characters... Omen is the solitary type so he doesn't interact with a lot of people, the few mentioned are all well written and with their own personality. They could do with a bit of a background story. For example Lirien is a very charismatic leader. Would have been cool to know of how she got into that position of power or maybe some rumours of her past feats that made her so respected.

Heir of the Fog takes place in a dystopian world where survival is the primary focus. There are mysterious like the fog which tie into not only the MC, but the world as a whole.I honestly think, one of the strongest points of the story is the worldbuilding. The author really seems to put a ton of thought into the history of his fiction. The MC, is someone who seems to equally put thoughts into every action they take. I think it would appeal to readers who appreciate that kind of character type.I still find him relatable despite his introspection however. The supporting characters, like Elina and Meris, are distinct and contribute to the story in a meaningful way. And they don't ever just feel forgotten about by the author. At least to me.As I said before, the writing style is really vivid, and I find it pretty darn immersive as well. It really does feel like it's alive and not just some canvas for MC to run around in.I do find occasionally, the language can still be a bit repetitive, as I generally think the reader should be allowed to imagine some details on their own, but this is subjective. Some may like it.I think this work has really grown into something great as it continues. I would recommend it to people who enjoy Post Apocalyptic adventure stories.

Imagine 'The Mist' set in a chilling post-apocalyptic future.
This is the haunting foundation of Omen's world. An 8-year-old child, she's a lone survivor after his district succumbs to the encroaching mist. Without revealing too much, the initial chapters ignite your imagination, leaving you to ponder the true nature of Omen and the significance of his prolonged slumbers.
The narrative steadily intensifies, with Omen's interactions and the unfolding mysteries drawing you deeper into the story.
However, a slight dissonance arises when Omen, a child seemingly deprived of formal education, exhibits knowledge and thought patterns that belie his age.
This occasional adult-like cognition within her internal monologues can momentarily disrupt the immersive experience.
Despite being descendants of a once highly advanced civilization that collapsed sometime within the last 4 to 5 thousand years, the current inhabitants are largely confined to their respective districts. Their primary means of inter-district communication, whether for trade or simple correspondence, relies on Chainrunners. These individuals have seen their status plummet from immense prestige to what is essentially a form of punishment for certain crimes.
The creatures that dwell within the "Fog," though mostly contained outside the districts' wards, remain a constant threat. This creates a compelling image of neighborhoods surrounded by defenses, yet riddled with potential entry points for these menacing beings.
Personally, I appreciate the fact that this story avoids the pitfalls of being a LitRPG with endless, arbitrary stat increases. It also steers clear of the overused trope of focusing on a school or university setting for the main character's development.
    But, overall a great beginning!
