Gunsoul is a amazing cultivagion story in a unusual setting for this type of story. I like that it's a story with a clear end. No chapter is wasted and while the world still holds many unexplored secrets, it came to a very satisfying conclusion. I loved the actioned packed style of Gunsoul, each fight directly leading to the next, while still having enough downtime in between to flesh out the cast. Another very important think is the uniqueness of every path. While many cultivation stories feel very samey on what cultivators can do, in Gunsoul everyone hat a completely different fighting style.

Imagine Mad Max, but all the major characters are xanxia Cultivators, and the protagonist's cultivation style is being a character from Enter the Gungeon. It lives up to the potential of that premise beautifully. Fight scenes are incredibly dramatic while still following an internal logic, characters are compelling and well-written, and the story features cool and dramatic powers without getting distracted by how cool the powers are or endless power escalation for its own sake, which I understand is a common problem for Cultivation stories. It features themes of self-determination, what it means to have power, cycles of violence, and the importance and difficulty of being kind in a cruel world, and its exploration of those topics is thoughtful while still adding to the story instead of distracting from it.
The closest thing I have to a criticism is that the characters don't really wow me with nuance and realism or with entertainment value, but even then there it's more than solid, just not quite a full five stars to my exacting standards.
Clocking in at 85 decent-length chapters (completed), it's not a short read but it doesn't overstay its welcome either, and it has a conclusion which feels like both a satisfying finale to the story and a fitting end to the main characters' personal arcs.

Good book. Like the combo of cultivation power system with super violent post apocalyptic world. Good worldbuilding and interesting world depicted. Very immersive writing style that makes you feel like you are in the story. Very good writing for fights and very creative villains and character powers. The MC is very likeable too.

Gunsoul blasts onto the scene with a wild mix of dark humor and explosive action. When Yuan is brutally murdered by marauders, they think they've put an end to his story. But they're dead wrong—literally. Rising from the grave as a Gunsoul, powered by the insane Gun, Yuan sets off on a chaotic quest for revenge across the Unmade World.
Void Herald yet again crafts a rollercoaster of a narrative, packed with absurdly entertaining encounters and bottomless lore. Yuan's journey is a delightful blend of supernatural powers and outlandish enemies, from power-hungry sects to nuclear cultivators, all while he embraces his new badass persona. The witty banter and over-the-top action sequences keep the adrenaline pumping and the laughs coming.
The world-building is as imaginative as it is gritty, with each location more bizarre than the last. Yuan’s relentless pursuit is not just about revenge; it's a thrilling exploration of what happens when the dead refuse to stay buried.
If you’re in the mood for a wild ride filled with humor, heart, and plenty of bullets, "Gunsoul" is a must-read.
I for one love it cause it's somehow how I imagine what would happen if cultivation became an actual thing in the modern world, didn't know I needed to read something like this instead of the Chinese propaganda versions of the Daopocalypse which to my knowledge almost always puts only Chinese culture on top with the protagonists all being variations of the same bland models, here there's originality and thought to accommodate other cultures in a non-demeaning fashion for once.

The concept of this really sounds like it shouldn't work, but it does. It really does. I felt like I was watching every moment play out like an anime in my head. Even amidst the non-stop cultivation and action, there's time for soft moments and great character development too
In conclusion: Gunsoul is an absolute masterpiece which I couldn't put down.

I don't often like Xianxia stories, but this one feels more like a spinoff from the genre. The result is a mix between post apocalypse, far west and cultivation.
Fast and intense like a good gun fight.

It's like cultivation xianxia, Mad Max and Enter the Gungeon rolled into one. Gunsoul has fast-paced post-apocalyptic action, found family, and power growth with an MC learning to cultivate actual enlightenment, not just qi. The setting and atmosphere are beautifully detailed. Completed story with a beautiful ending.
I'm eagerly awaiting Void Herald's next work, and will definitely be checking out his existing archive.

This author won my trust with excellent previous stories.  Reading his work on a project from day one has been interesting.  While the setup is basic I am looking forward to seeing how they marry the apocalypse,  xiansia and Americana angles further. I hope for a deeper characterization  and even more world building

One of Void's teachers once wrote, "true power comes from the end of a barrel". Many say that his storytelling is average and that people only read max for the absence of bad ideas. But if we read between the lines there is a far more interesting story about the author.

So the quick blurb is post post apocalyptic xianxia weird west.  It feels like a weird west rather than atom punk version of the non-Bethesda Fallouts while osculating between that  and a combination of Bastard and Chainsawman on one end of the spectrum and a proper spaghetti western on the other.  I know that doesn't sound like it makes a lot of sense, but this really was a fun story.
