Description
The year is 2070. It is seven decades since magic returned to the world, bringing with it creatures once believed to be myths and legends. The power of nation-states has declined, eclipsed by megacorporations who fight an invisible war for market share with deniable mercenaries known as Shadowrunners.
Bug is no Shadowrunner, just a reclusive hacker who spends her days doing petty Matrix jobs for petty pay. When a crew of mercenaries in need of a tech expert reaches out to her with an offer too profitable to refuse, Bug discovers that for someone with her gifts, there are much better - and riskier - ways to live.
Drawn into a spider's web of competing interests, Bug will have to adapt quickly to survive a city where the lines between gangs, corporations and politicians are so blurred as to be almost non-existent, all while the uncovering the hidden depths of her own Technomantic abilities.
This story is a fusion of the Parahumans universe, created by John C. McCrae, with the fantasy-cyberpunk universe of Shadowrun, published by Catalyst Game Labs. No prior knowledge of either setting is required to read and enjoy Good People.

Great writing, interesting characters, something of a plot. Some of the usual cyberpunk "Everyone has an agenda, and there's probably stuff going on that will only make sense in retrospect." The only thing that I think isn't part of Shadowrun is technomancy. Other examples I can think of all were psychic based, but this Shamanic version fits well in Shadowrun.
Check it out. - ArcanaVitaeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First of I want to say the premise of Worm and Shadowrun having a crossover is really great, they're two setting that do fit together pretty well. The choice to have Brockton Bay be in the 6th world and adapt to that was a great one. The various character and their backgrounds, personalties and skillsets where translated over to Shadowrun really well.
Taylor herself is a Troll and a Technomancer which I think was a great move. Taylor's personal issues fit in with what Trolls usually go through pretty often so it's a tragically common thing to occur in the Sixth World. And her being a Technomancer fits with the whole battlefield control and intelligence she had going on in Worm.
Also one of the things I really liked is how even though the charecters are young adults instead of teenagers their lifepaths seemed like something that would realistically happen to them. That applies to both the Undersiders and the Wards.
I'm interested in seeing how the Worm elements like the Shards, Slaughterhouse Nine and Cauldron fit into the Sixith world and seeing the other mysteries that occur.
The character interactions between everyone is also really compelling, it's something that draws me deeper into the story and makes everyone more interesting. - BnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Easily the best read I’ve seen on here in the cyber punk category. Plus a fresh twist on the concept and the author really sticks to the important premise established at the beginning. The pacing it great and the author does a fantastic job with the character arcs on this story.
So glad you posted about it in the Shadowrun reddit and I found you through there. I LOVE anything technomancer and you’re doing a great job! - BrinleyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love this story so much. Came across the author from this story being shared on Reddit and downloaded the app specifically so I could rate it.
it’s got to be the best Shadowrun story I’ve read in the universe and I really appreciate the dark slice of life.
technomancers are my favorite flavor in SR, always loved the idea of them. The author does a fantastic job making it visual in how they’re portrayed.
im afraid of the story ending and terrified it’ll be the last of his stories in this universe.
please carry on reading these has gotten me through some tough and stressful times but looking forward to your story here has helped me peel away the stress every evening so I can go to sleep and dream of resonance sheep.
I’d say another favorite aspect of the story is how each character progresses and Bug’s character arch as she achieves a deeper connection with the resonance realms. She comes into her own as a leader and I just love the way it’s shown. It’s not jarring or poorly contrived, she comes into it under necessity sure but at the same time it’s organic.
I can’t talk about the story more without spoiling it but it’s 100% worth a read and needs to be properly published under the Shadowrun name. - ImATreeBelieveMeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a fun exploration of Worm's characters set in a Shadowrun version of Brockton Bay. The characters are adapted to the universe with some being near identical, others only rhyming with their original versions.
The events follow a path reminiscent of the events of worm, but the story is very much its own and isn't predictable just because you've read Worm before
The writing was competent. I personally wasn't the biggest fan of the way deeper technomancy is described, but that's more taste than anything.
All in all it's an enjoyable ride if you want to spend some more time with the Undersiders or just want a good Cyberpunk story. - AlsoJohnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I started reading what came to be known as cyberpunk with John Brunner. He predates William Gibson but His home dial up terminals connected to mainframes, a non human sentient presence in the net and culture changing too quickly for a coherent culture other than power to survive was as much pioneering as anything Gibson or Effinger wrote.
Good people has as well written, edge of society main character as any of those three seminal authors presented. Sure Bug may be non human because "magic" and interface with the net differently than the usual "deck' or implant but once upon a time the interface was a dial up landline. As for magic. Some experiments at CERN can only be calculated using quantum computers. The Scientists call that 'Magic'. A dysfunctional tomorrow with a plucky technomancer like Bug remains a valid fictional conjecture. Oh. It's very well written too - VilucideRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is a fun take. I tried it once before and set it down, but I re-read the first couple chapters and like it quite a bit. The characters are unique, with clear boundaries on power and how they act, as opposed to some hyperpowered MC. The characters feel real. The world feels real, and events are seen to occur beyond the charaters sight as they settle into their new home. Excited to keep reading more!
- LaujivRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5basically this story is a crossover fanfic between Worm and Shadowrun, but unlike usual crossovers this one threw the two settings in a blender and somehow made it more than the sum of it's parts.
personally going into the story i didn't know anything about shadowrun and had read Worm years ago, despite my lacking knowledge the story is very enjoyable. While I can't say for sure i suspect that having read Worm would just be a bonus and that this story would still me enjoyable. - MulBe039Royal Road★★ 2.0Read the first arc
The story is littered with incongruencies, incorrectly applied jargon and plot holes.
Beyond thst, the interactions between characters are just that: interactioms between characters. They don't feel real or even probable.
Which is a real shame because the world building, the prose, and the world are actually halfway decent.
I'm not familiar with the works this is derived from, so I can't rightly say how much of that is the authors own achievement, but it feels like there is some talent here. - reil-rhiilRoyal Road★★ 2.0Its fine, I guess. I just don't get the concept at all. The characters are all so different from those in Worm that you could simply give them new names and it would be unrecognizable.
Why bother using established characters if you're gonna change them entirely?
Eventually I just got so bothered by this that I stopped reading.
