- ShadowspawnnnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Best new series I have stumbled on. Start of storyline had me going oh boy, not sure this is for me. Within the first 15 minutes I was hooked. I like progressive fantasy without a protagonist being a sociopath. Love when western cultivation meets Litrpg in a unique and creative way.
- Anthony and Leisel VolskiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0My husband has been trying to explain the premise of cultivation novels to me for at least the last year and a half, but I Just. Never. Got. It.
I get it now.
A very approachable cultivation fiction, Ghost of the Truthseeker uses LitRPG as a framing device which has, in my mind, cemented this as a perfect gateway for those of us who don't normally read within the genre. This was a brilliant move by this first time author, bravo.
The style is perfectly balanced with just the right combination of description and action. Even the most heavy info dump bits are a breeze to read through and understand. Elements that would normally get on my nerves (particularly heavy stat referencing) are a complete nonissue, as they are approached in a way that serves the narrative well.
Grammar is clean, very few mistakes. Have caught a handful of minor inconsistencies caused by hasty copy/pasting. I suspect these issues will become even fewer and far between if the author is able to get on top of their rising popularity and create a backlog. I've admittedly had to Google a word here and there, but I'm not even mad about it.
I'm fascinated by how realistically this one is written for something using the fantasy tag. The situations are believable and the dialogue is snappy and natural-feeling. All fighting situations have been handled with care; they're fast paced and visceral without becoming needlessly graphic. Just the right touches in all the right places.
While most characters have only been introduced at the surface level, Alistair is a standout MC. He has a strong will and, even in moments of uncertainty, his motives are clear. Definitely a good-guy type, but not annoyingly so. Other developing characters are looking promising, as well. It will be interesting to uncover the motivations of these secondary characters and possible antagonists over time.
Overall, if you never read another cultivator type novel in your life, read this one. Ghost of the Truthseeker makes early promises - Kirko52Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Bought both books on audible and have enjoyed the story. Really looking forward to more chapters on here considering audio books tend to take a while with the translation from text to speech and doing that well. Alistairs story has been a fun ride so far and I can’t wait for more.
- MavTechRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: Enjoyable and clean writing. Mechanics of system and MC are fun. Highly recommend this new author.
Keep reading this story, it keeps getting better.
My typical response to a story is to give it a try if I like the blurb. This one was an interesting enough blurb. It was the intro that hooked me and got me through the first chapter fast. I started reading this in one sitting. Then I had to crash for the night. I woke up and had to get my thoughts together to do this review. Please check this out and Enjoy.
Style: My kind of story. Setting, pace, characters. All nicely described and yet the pace keeps moving.
Story: Same as Style, great so far. At less than 10 chapters the author has more tale to spin. Looking forward to checking back as they update. i gave 4.5 as it is still a really new story but i will update after more time and more chapters. Only issue is its new. not a fault in story otherwise, IMO.
Grammar: Looks really clean, only caught one thing and let author know.
Character: I am loving the MC and the intro of other characters is natural and i have enjoyed the interactions.
Note to author: Keep this up. You have something special and a gift of telling tales. Congrats on making it this far on your first story. - DreameroftheUnknownRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don't usually read cultivation stories but if most of them are up to this standard, I may just have to change my mind. It's definitely a very unique story, with twists and turns I didn't see coming from a mile away.
The story is clearly written by a skilled author. It flows well and evenly, making sure the writing doesn't become too stale nor too extravagant that it becomes difficult for people to read. The system itself, which some may consider the most important part, is solid and stands out from the norm. The spelling and grammar are also very good, with no obvious mistakes standing out. The dialogue seems realistic, and clearly conveys the character who is speaking's personality. The story is also descriptive enough to help the reader construct the situation in their mind, but not to the point where it's slow-paced.
The main character is well-developed and has a clear goal and morals, which is a must-have for any character. The supporting characters also have potential, with their own range of personalities that make them not seem like their lives revolve around the main character.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story and recommend it to everybody! - Evelyn AdelbergRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’ve read very few of these types of apocalyptic cultivation novels for the simple reason that I believe that they’re better suited for the comic book/mahawa format. This story is an exception. Thanks to its simple and yet clear descriptions, I’ve never had trouble visualising what’s going on, or what kind of monsters the MC has found himself face to face with. The action scenes are also smooth and snappy.
However, when it comes to style, the use of three different System notification screen (blue box, >quote, bold) did stand out in an inconsistent type of way to me.
I didn’t see any grammatical issues, but I did notice the occasional use of a lexicon more often seen in high fantasy or hard sci-fi novel than cultivation stories.
The MC is actually quite original for these types of stories, as he is power hungry, and dare I even say megalomaniac. I think his characterisation was laid out perfectly in that scene in the first chapter where he saw death coming for him, but could only think about how great it would feel to possess such power. But, as the events of this end of the world scenario unfold around him, the gravity of it all slowly starts to sink in, and Alistair slowly begins to change. - BeansterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I generally like this kind of apocalypse LitRPG story but I think this one is especially well done. Also the main character appears to actually be a good person which is refreshing to see, too often these kind of stories feature a dark or chaotic neutral protagonist. The pacing seems pretty good so far and I am hopeful that the system that we are just beginning to explore is going to be quite complex.
- IloveONIONsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I like the premise so far, especially the setting with the college students. Its rare for these types of novels to begin with the main character not being completely alone! One thought I have is that it is very similar to some other apocalyptic "systems" novels, but most of the books in the genre are similar to one another so I wouldnt sweat it. Otherwise, very nice!!
- JD GLASSCOCKRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0keep going, creating, and making your world breathe....strong start and happy for you.....the story seems tight and a great start...blessings to all you do and your road going forward.....i think you are going to do well...and wish you nothing but huge success and lots of fans joining your journey

jd glasscock - TheOldLord10256Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Only gripe is the early pacing of the story
The grammar is phenomanol with very little to no errors in the story and the sentences are very easy to understand and aren't clunky at all.
The broad scope of characters are generally well made and they aren't cardboard so the side characters make for decent conversation with the main character as well as companions when they are such.
The style and world are very well done with the kinda changing landscape of society and their world after the absorption into the universe-size Empire.
Spoilers ahead because I don't know how to do the spoiler tag for reviews or stuff...
The only gripe is that the early pacing of the story can feel like its lightning fast with a great many events happenning within 1-2 days of the Empire absorbing Earth like teleportation, monster spawns, people saved, a monster wave preemptively stopped by killing a lord/king of monsters when it was new and multiple other things that occur within a potentially small timeframe if I missed any potential timeskips like sleep or being exxcessively knocked out due to a fight.
The story is good for a read
