The world building is absolutely spectacular. At first everything is new and confusing but within a few chapters you start seeing the edges until more and more details become clearer and you suddenly have a picture of exactly how this all worked out. It's less outright magic and more magical creatures and what's happened when humanity has been pushed to near extinction.
The plot is also just so good too, you have everything you need to figure things out a few chapters ahead of reveals but it's always so well spaced out it keeps a good pace and there's a few twists and motives I didn't see coming which is personally so delightful, especially when I feel like I should have!
I love the characters as well, I didn't care for the main the first few chapters but he really grows on you. Characters you don't like at first also grow as their personality shines through and you just can't hold their first impression against them anymore.
Overall I honestly am telling all of my friends to read this and also my mom and just I need more people to talk about this story!

Humm setting might not be to your taste, its also slightly grim, this story means business. Not in a grimm dark kinda way but reality near, and it hurts more for it.
Plot twists interwoven into twists so you feel like you know whats coming only to have the rug pulled out from under you. Characters that feel too real, not because of 20 pages of tragic backstory, nah that is shrouded in mystery as it should be. No, but because of the little details only another human would notice.
Its a genuine treasure to read.

A very good epic fantasy style book, which is quite the rarity especially on this site where the various rpg styles reign supreme.
I am shocked this isn't more talked about to be honest, as it's easily one of the top books on this site.
The characters are good. Theres some nice world building
The grammer has as far as I have seen, been impeccable.
The story is still in its infancy, but what is there is very promising and already catches the readers attention.

Basically just a very good story. Spelling and grammer are excellent, the plot is interesting and intricate, its worldbuilding is original and engaging whilst at the same time not making you feel like you are reading a wikipedia article. The characters are interesting, have their own motivations and worldviews and aren't dumb just to progress the story. To sum it up, a fun story to read, I can't wait for book two!

I have to make a confession : I do not have particularily high expectations when I read on Royal Road. I do understand that most authors here are either amateurs, beginners, non native speakers or all of the above. Frankly, I am fine with that, as I tend to value quantity over quality. I enjoy easy stuff and straightforward popcorn litterature.
Do not get me wrong, there is some truly great stuff out there, but it can be hidden in the mass a bit.
This is why I was slightly put off with the initial premisces of Fox Tongue and Kirin's bone. This was a bit too conceptual, you see. And the first few chapters are, it has to be said, slightly disorienting, as is, I think, the story description.
Once you've gone past these initial snags, though, what a story this is.
I removed half a star in the "style" category because of the slight disorientation I felt at first. I don't have anything against gradual exposition, far from it, but a tiny bit of context in the first few chapters would probably have helped me get into the story a bit quicker. That being said, I am mostly nitpicking at this point. The style of writing smoothes out after a few chapters and through no artifice such as on the nose exposition or conveniently placed grandmasters explaining everything you want or don't want to know about the situation, you get sucked into a world that's claustrophobic and colorful, genuinely interresting and rich with an contrasted atmosphere.
The grammar is basically perfect as far as I can tell. I can't recall a single instance when it let down the story. As I am not a native speaker, I don't consider myself really qualified to judge it, though.
The story is one that's both difficult to pinpoint and yet quite simple : a man takes another's place. The premisce obviously isn't new, but where it is usually treated as a way to get easy laughs, the author manages to capture the slight and constant imbalance one must feel when confronted with the situation and make it believable, and,

I am engrossed in this story. It was confusing at the start, but I find a lot of the stories I come to love confuse me in the beginning. The characters are interesting, each with their own surprises. I caught up to where the author was before I knew it.

Just read the latest chapter of Towards the Sun and noticed you'd plugged this in the notes. Clicked the link and suddenly had it finished with no idea where the last few hours went.
The world your building is awesome and I love (and also kind of hate) how your drip feeding us knowledge about the characters. It meant I just couldn't put this down.
Loved it and can't wait for the sequel!!!

Lovely worldbuilding and excellent style. I love how most of the worldbuilding is implied rather than outright stated; the story flows extremely well in general.
Writing style is excellent - witty, expressive, and entertaining, I couldn't ask for more.
I do wish the chapters were a bit longer - makes it a bit difficult to maintain continuity week to week. Can't wait to see where this goes!

Well written.  A lot of plots within plots, but you don't get bogged down with them.  A real page turner that keeps you happily reading along. As othres have said, no giant info dumps that break immersion. Big plus there. Hopeful that part 2 turns out as entertaining as part 1 was.

Very clever world building without drowning the reader in details that don't advance the narrative. I've read about 30 stories on Royal Road and this is one of my favorites here. Premise is good, protagonist is an impostor, but a believable one so the tension is great. Plots, factions and lots of room for adversaries to become allies and vice-versa. Only thing i hope for is a clearer moral arc for the protagonist to develop over time as he learns more.
