Forged By The Apocalypse - A LitRPG With Draconic Potential

Description
What to expect from Forged By The Apocalypse:
A usually savvy and capable MC,
Quick, punchy chapters of around 2k words,
A focus on the feeling of magic, rather than the stat points being a focus,
A vast cosmos and incredibly high power ceilings to reach. Lore to drop, worlds to build.
------------------------
The world is messed up.
The powerful lord over the weak, those with backing and history have overpowered starting attributes and the game is completely rigged.
And that's all before the System descends.
Grant Kaeron is just about to graduate when the world ends, which is a double-downer. Finding himself with only questions everywhere he looks for answers and danger around every corner, Grant's only choice is to survive. Locked in a System dungeon on his own, he does his best to roll with the punches and take every advantage he can get his hands on. It will take more than just luck to survive the Shift, and more than just strength to survive what comes after.
Yggdrasil, The Multiverse, The Great Connection.
Forged By The Apocalypse is an irreverent first look into a wider System multiverse based around The Tree. "Book 1", meaning 50+ chapters are already written and Book 2 is underway.
-----------------------------------
Drastic rewrites underway in which I'm keeping the core of the novel the same while changing and improving certain storylines. It became a much larger beast than I expected but it's good stuff! Come follow along with Forged Anew!

- warriorblade 909Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This has been one hell of a Ride. I won't lie I have thought of giving up on this novel several times once the different cities appeared, but I'm glad I didn't. So let me reiterate this has been one hell of a Ride and I'm now invested in seeing this story through to it's conclusion. As for why you(yes you reading this review) should read this story. It's quite elementary my dear fellow. It's one of the most ingenious stories I've read here on royal road and it's got plenty of references as well.
- Tales ForgeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am leaving this review after finish the sixth chapter and can honestly say that I will keep on reading.
Style
The first chapter is a great hook for both the story and the main character. The story unfolds at a fast pace but doesn’t rush its world building.
The first chapter could make you believe that the main character would instantly become overpowered by random circonstances. However he is quickly matched with wacky opponents that make him lose his footing in his new reality.
The « System » seems rather flexible with the early example of mana control. This should translate to alterable power scales enabling the author to create more tension, and uncertainty in the major plot points.
Character
The use of the first person, and the constant thoughts of the main character make it easy to understand his personality.
His transition from the initial panic of the first chapter to an analytical stoicism is (too) fast. But understandable if one of side effect of the system is to make « nice people » disappear.
Grammar
My reading experience was fluid and did not require any double take or backtracking. Additionally, I saw no grammatical error in what should amount to 10k words. - The2ndnightRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0We're 5 chapters in at the time of writing this review and I'm very intrigued. The author is clearly experienced and has done a good job of setting up the tone and given us a little insight into the MC and what to expect. The MC isn't braindead and neither is he a stereotypical "genius" either.
Either way, this looks promising and can't wait to see where this goes! - gajensenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story
LOVE THIS STORY. The first chapter grips you with a System countdown and the fun just grows from there. I also really enjoyed how Grant responded to the crazy world around him. The story is unique, the action is realistic (bloody at times), and I found myself laughing quite a lot at some of the lines (the pizza part was my favorite).
Style
Very quick to the action and witty. Really loved the fight scenes. The pacing is pretty quick but explains the world enough so that you are never confused about what's going on.
Grammar
The grammar is top-notch. I was very impressed by his expanded vocabulary. No common mistakes here. This is a very seasoned writer and it shows.
Character
Grant is a consistent and humorous character. The author gets it right by establishing empathy with Grant within the first two chapters and how Grant responds to the events that unfold. His emotional response to the terrible events made me like him, and it was a joy to see him venture off into a crazy new world.
Overall, tons of potential in this story. Good luck with the Writathon Challenge! This story has a good shot at crushing the competition :) - jenmcpennRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Full disclosure, I'm the cover artist. I am a classically trained artist who largely does fine art, classes, and marketing. I create book covers for one person only, M.T. Conboy. I delineate from my normal projects for him because I genuinely love his stories and believe in his writing.
Now my review! The way M.T. and I work is he writes the stories, sends them to me in the last few chapters, I read the book and design the cover based on how his work inspires me. I focus the Tree for continuity to the huge universe he is building and pull out different elements of the book to make each cover stand alone and reflect his work.
That puts me at an advantage when I review his work for potential readers as I've read farther than anyone. Please understand me when I say I would not make these covers if I didn't think the story telling was exceptional. I'm thrilled to see Grant's story finally coming out and to see reader's reactions to the book.
Grant is very much an even person tossed into an off kilter world. It's fun to see this young man navigate the end of his world as he knows it while also rising to the occasion in this new world with fantastical rules. I enjoy watching him struggle with the moral and ethical dilemmas of a world suddenly with dungeons and magic. Watching him choose then master his powers is fascinating in a way I don't often find litrpg. I often feel main characters max out powers and super hero their way through this genre. I enjoy that M.T. Conboy writes about normal people thrust into extraordinary circumstances and doesn't immediately God mod them. They have set backs and growth, it makes the writing superior as it's not just wish fulfillment but thought out and challenging.
This book is fun and flippant in its humor and pop culture references in a way that sets it apart from other "in the system" stories. M.T. Conboy is very good at giving each main character his own voice and means of navigating their new challenges so that each book feels like - Santhosh746Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am 7 chapters in and I love the story So far. The game elements and the levelling system makes reading and enjoying the novel a lot easier.
Grant is op from the start and throughout the story, I found him becoming a bit deranged!? I love the vivid descriptions of the scenes happening in the novel.
The world needs to be a bit more fleshed out but the addition of dragons and creatures like ninja turtles makes reading a lot of fun to me.
Overall, I am enjoying It. - Jordan Elias R.Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Style: The chapters are fast paced and intense, intriguing right from the start. The writing style is simple, yet inviting, luring you into the story like a predator lures it prey. Truly! The story has a very nice prose and I found myself envisioning the setting very easily.
Grammar: The Grammer is neat, and no particular errors stick out so yeah, I'm gonna give it 5 stars.
Story: The story isn't really anything new, I mean, it's the apocalypse, but the way it's portrayed is absolutely beautiful. The story is a progressive fantasy, and the Mc is overpowered from the start, but does that make his life easier? No. Absolutely not.
And loot! Loot always makes everything worth it. I'm a little concerned about the world building, and how overpowered the MC currently is, but I'll just have to read and see.
I particularly appreciate how much detail the writer put into the story, and how vividly he managed to paint each scenario, so yeah, 4.5 stars
Character: probably my favorite as I suspect the Mc might slowly be going insane, but that's the fun of it right?
Overall, the chapters are interesting and binge worthy, also funny, so I'm definitely looking forward to it. - XablauRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story has an interesting take as using a newly graduated psychiatrist as the MC. He sees the world in a critical way, analyzing even the most mundane actions and changes, proving vital to his survivability. The reader feels like he is reading one of the classic texts but with the apocalyptical modernity of today as the main subject.
Going in, we see the MC showing little by little what he (dragon) is all about. The enemies are sometimes comical, but always endearing and dangerous. The only negative I found, maybe fruit of the MC analytical mind, was that sometimes the text feels too heavy, like a simple act of bumping into someone, the falling off a coin, all rich, detailed, but for me it’s a little too much.
But the critic from before, maybe, was me and my liking to direct things. The little details my mind can do its work to fill for me. From the story, I just need its delicious meat.
Great work. - CKMoRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Amongst a million other works in this genre, Forged By The Apocalypse has potential. I could see there being a lot of really interesting reasons behind what's happening in it, and a lot of chances for some amazing world building.
My rating is based on the potential I see in this story because I understand web serialization can't be too polished. Think of this as seeing the writer's beta draft!
Story
The story in this novel is certainly interesting. There are a lot of details that could be built off of to really flesh everything out. Questions about who's behind the System, how and why it has targeted Earth, the history behind when it was there last, the way other nonhuman races fit in to it all, etc. There's a clear rule set for the way abilities and powers work in this System, and the videogame elements are played on quite well.
Character
The characters in this work have the capacity to be multilayered, complex people, dealing with an entirely new world and all the horrific things that come with it.
Style
The writing is quite fast paced, and would appeal to you if you enjoy just the plot and the moving parts. I do wish writer would take the time to slow down and describe the scenes or the people themselves.
Grammar
As for the sentence, spelling, and structure, there are typos and a few repetitive sentences, but they don't get in the way of the overall story. - SchusfusterRoyal Road★★★ 2.5It's trying to be funny and clever but it takes SO long to say everything. Why use one sentence to describe an injury when five paragraphs will do?
It's just kind of exhausting to get through. You can see the shape of what's there, and the author has definitely put a lot of effort into his story development, but it's so much about every thought the mc has, each moment of his power useage, each aspect of the monster...it's just too much.
