Description

Reid's birthday gift from the universe? Earth awakening as part of a planetary lottery put on by the system. This awakening turns animals into beasts, gives regular humans skills and powers, and sets off a series of events that will allow Earth to adapt and grow - or fail and die. Reid, separated from his family, must fight and win amidst the challenges of the new world. Reid is an outlier in more ways than one - and gets saddled with an initially less-than-helpful system shackle. His unlikely and atypical journey will neither be simple nor easy. Reid will reach for power and freedom, struggling with forces and implications far beyond himself. What to expect:• System-based things like stats, skills, levels, and grades• A reasonably-sized cast of characters, some more important than others *wink*• Central focus is on the MC's experience, with plenty of other character's POV for extra flavor• Science in the fiction - abitof real-world knowledge in the new universal rules of awakened space• Power, fights, and painful progression• A slow-fast journey into a larger universe (a ways into the book)• Big entities with motives much larger than the MC (a ways into the book)• An MC that often fights alone, but grows with a set of companions (a ways into the book) Schedule: 3x chapters per week (Mon, Wed, Fri) Chapters ~2k words each.

    Really enjoying the story.
The author has put together some unique growth mechanics, unique personalities in the side characters, and unique tutorial time line that makes it more a challenge realm for those who live through the initial months of the transition - like a reward or a growth arch instead of a basics training ground.

This story presents a compelling blend of personal struggle, fantasy, and adventure, following Reid as he navigates life’s harshest realities and an unexpected transformation into a survival-based world.
Realistic Character Development: Reid’s journey, from dealing with his terminal diagnosis to enduring supernatural challenges, is portrayed with depth. His past experiences, relationships, and personality shine through in every scene, making him a complex and relatable protagonist.
High Stakes and Suspense: The narrative maintains a palpable sense of urgency, especially through Reid’s life-and-death battles against beasts in the forest and his interactions with an unknown system. This keeps the reader engaged and invested in his survival.
Unique World-Building: Introducing the concept of a “Planetary Awakening Lottery” and creatures like the mutated red salamander effectively create an unpredictable, dangerous world. The system messages Reid receives are detailed and humorous, and add an intriguing layer to the story's fantasy and game-like environment.
Emotional Tension: Reid’s reflections on his wife and daughter amid his battles add an emotional weight to his journey. These moments ground the story, balancing the intense action with heartfelt reminders of his humanity.
Improving Transition Between Past and Present: Reid’s flashbacks are powerful but could be more smoothly integrated to enhance readability. Bridging these sections with clearer transitions or markers would improve flow and help readers stay grounded in the timeline.

Definitely enjoyed the story so far. Am still abit confused as to why he was singled out for his cancer (that would be millions of people, all across the globe, hardly rate) but assuming that will be a plot point covered later.Spoiler alert: Honestly the Salamander Siege with the Titan is feeling a little drawn out for me. If this is to be the climax of book 1 then it makes more sense. Hoping it's not though, because I was assuming we would get a little more overall main plot info before the climax.

Every litRPG tends to follow the same formula. Some of that is good, tropes are valuable, and if things are working you don't need to reinvent the wheel. Sadly this can lead to stagnating stories with recycled plotlines and boring reveals with no payoffs.
Fluxcore isn't like the rest. Yes it pulls some from some of the more interesting themes we've seen, but immediately turns everything on its head by giving genuine emotional stakes. Reid is more than just another throwaway character. He has a family, and a life, and complications that I won't spoil, but completely change how the story plays out.
The game elements are strong and fun, and they'll definitely pull you into the world and keep you turning the pages, but it's the extras that make the book special. Reid's interactions with the system are amusing and clever. His struggles are real and have a hint of desperation to them that's very compelling.
The only critique I could give would be a few early styles challenges. A lot of paragraphs starting the same way, but it doesn't take away from the overall work at all. I'd definitely recommend giving the story a try. Whether you come for the apocalyptic setting, the litRPG elements, or something altogether different, you'll find yourself staying for the quality, the entertainment, and the emotional depth.

Tl;dr Version: A system apocalypse story with an interesting power system that contains hidden depths. A bit of a slow burn at first, it quickly ramps up in terms of stakes, intriguing plot developments, and personality. I think the author really starts to hit their stride at about chapter 8!
Style: I’m a pretty big fan of multiple pov stories so this series was right up my alley. I especially like the added depth these perspectives give the reader. Showing not only the vast spectrum of power we’re dealing with, but the perspectives of the little guys as well.
In terms of voice, like i mentioned above, I really feel like chapter eight is when things really start to sound unique. I especially enjoyed how the main character begins to joke in the face of his crap situation.
Story: I personally feel like the story is where this series shines. It may not be flashy on first glance, but there’s some serious unexplored depth here that I look forward to seeing more of. The advent of the mysterious control stat allowing for system breaking shenanigans is only the icing on the cake.
(Control is best stat and I’ll die on that hill!! Just watch me!)
Grammar: The grammar is, unfortunately, where this series happens to suffer. There were just a lot of instances in which the help of an editor was needed. Words sometimes repeat, and or, are not the right word for the occasion. Just a bunch of little things that, while it did not take away from my experience, were definitely noticeable.
Character: A bit bland at first, he grows more enjoyable as you go. The fact that he’s a dedicated father is a plus. The fact that he’s mortally ill is a trope I have not seen before. Also a plus.
Overall: All in all, I really enjoyed the story so far and look forward to reading more!

I am thoroughly enjoying this story.. quality is definitely high and could easily be a book I would buy.. grammar and spelling on point, characters well done, even if I don't like them. I look forward to seeing what this author will produce in the future! Thanks for the story.

I think that it's an excellent story. The characters behave in a realistic way, I haven't noticed any character acting in a cartoonishly evil way. Everyone in the story has reasons for their actions. The antagonists we have seen act in a reasonable, but evil manor, and the allies and protagonists all have justifications for their actions.

The characterisation is good and it builds well, the story starts well and carries on, it builds on the characters that it's created with really good story lines and makes you care about its main characters. One of the few fictions that I would actually consider a patreon on if they had one, the problem with patreon is that you read ahead and then you are still stuck waiting for chapters I would much rather support the author by buying their work on Kindle.

What a great ride Flux Core has been, I’m just starting the book 3 arc and it’s been binge-city here for me. Reid is an imperfect, OP MC whose grit and tenacity have a tendency to undermine his potential (at least until he starts raising his intelligence stat and accepting wisdom from those who know better. He’s fun and his relationships really build the connection between reader and story. Really well done!

This has been great so far. I’m really looking forward to reading more. CoJoGo crushed this! Definitely give it a read, or at least add it to your Read Later list, you won’t regret it.
Now, let’s get into why you should:
Style Score: I liked the writer’s style. There was a decent balance between sped-up time and well-described, if a bit gruesome, fights. A small critique would be that there were times (while using TTS) when it was a bit hard to tell when some scenes switched, but other than that, it was done at well-placed moments.
Story Score: Flux Core hits a few common tropes on RR, but I find reading something that isn’t Isekai refreshing. It’s also a bit interesting that the “System” is interactive in a realistic way early on. It seems to have a real narrative purpose rather than just being tossed into the story for the sake of having blue screens.
Grammar Score: I tend to listen/read a lot of things through TTS, which often makes grammar mistakes jump out at me. This story had shockingly few grammatical mistakes, as well as avoided using repetitive words or phrases! Well done, CoJoGo!
Character Score: Reid seems like a realistic character to me. He’s got real motivations and a past. He thinks about some major events of his life frequently, but I don’t feel like it’s overdone. Again, to me, this is a refreshing take on the genre, which seems to be filled with the stereotypical murder hobo. From where I’m at in the story, I really like the direction the MC is going, and I HOPE that he keeps going the way I think he is.
I’ll certainly be keeping up with this story. It’s on my follow list now. Give it a read and decide for yourself!
