- RznRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5With the title and blurb the premise was pretty clear, Pern picks up Rick and the two go on adventures together. The first part is over in 7 chapters and gave a little fun, but chapter 12 is when things got a bit more serious. As the author writes in the style of light novels which in this case means falling into the tropes. Despite everything, Pern comes across as naive, stupid and a little desperate. Rick and Pern do work together and while I find some of Rick's aloofness a bit annoying he is not your typical useless or secretly OP loser protagonist. He's got some heart and that makes it work. The second half becomes a little sparse on detail and a bit more awkward. The epilogue though wrapped up well, and made up for some of the tumble and rush of the latter half - if only by not leaving it up to a reader's head canon about their future.
