Fantastic book concept and I'm excited to see where this novel goes from here.
The magic system is well crafted with clearly defined costs and need for learning and management, though I get the sense from the early chapters that there's more growing and discovering to do, and the writing is deft and well done.
I think the main character of Aysse is here to save humanity—that's the sense I get anyway—that they are the brink of being overrun or something (again just a guess) and that Alyssa's quick adaptation to their world and magic is going to serve him well as he starts to fight and defend humanity in this place. We'll see!
The writing here is strong, the concept, as I said, is compelling, and the set up is clear and poised for conflict. We have all the elements in place for an intriguing and fascinating fantasy story.
Thanks for putting all this in place—and I hope the next chapters really start to open up the conflict and drive the plot forward. Here we go!
