Description
Fated to die, Cian strikes out on his own for one last time.
One year… that was all the time he had been “Gifted.”
Something, however, catches his eye. A VR-MMO of EPIC proportions. His body, frail and weak, unable to perform the tasks required to have a real life adventure, has little purpose for games of the mind.
He plugs in and something… unexpected happens. He is given the “Bargain” of a lifetime. To live or die; each fate connected in both worlds. Everlight, a game and an experience, is to be his home, for better or worse.
With a heavy heart, he casts off his shell of a body and forges a new path in the Coesus. A new fate. But there are dangers beyond those of a simple game. Hackers, both in and out, threaten him and others near and far.
For the Everlight, more than just a game, has come to be known as… A Hacker’s Paradise.

This VR-MMO LitRPG adventure continues to deliver on atmosphere, creativity, and character tension. The story excels in dynamic scene shifts—from stealthy dungeon escapes to blood magic diplomacy—and maintains emotional weight amid the fantasy mechanics. Each chapter adds meaningful development while sustaining player-centric stakes and interpersonal intrigue.
Style
Strengths:
Smooth integration of system mechanics like [Stats], [Checks], and [Classes] into narrative flow.
Atmospheric prose with strong sensory detail (especially in Chapter 8's prison escape and Chapter 11's stormy setting).
Balanced pacing of action, introspection, and dialogue.
Suggestions:
Occasionally verbose; a few lines would benefit from trimming for sharper clarity.
Repetition of sentence starters like "She did..." or "He felt..." could be diversified for stronger rhythm.
Story
Strengths:
Every chapter has its own narrative arc while still advancing the overarching quest.
The worldbuilding is clever, especially with the in-world lore of the paintings (Chapter 10) and the blood magic system (Chapter 9–11).
The reveal of character motivations and relationships feels organic.
Suggestions:
A few characters, like Zav, may benefit from more nuanced emotional beats amidst humor.
Sometimes the stakes could be clarified more upfront in chapters to maximize reader anticipation.
Grammar
Strengths:
Strong control over grammar and punctuation. Minimal technical errors.
Dialogue is fluid and well-punctuated, even with fantasy terminology.
Suggestions:
Occasionally misused commas or semicolons in long descriptive passages.
A few moments of tense shifting (present vs. past) that may need review for consistency.
Character
Strengths:
Sri and Ashryn are layered, emotionally complex, and compelling in their conflicting ideals.
Cian/Lyceus is a strong emotional core—his physical vulnerability contrasts beautifully with digital agency.
Zav adds levity and unpredictability that offset the darker tones, espe - An Actual KiwiRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story offers a strong blend of sci-fi and fantasy. I like the premise a lot, the fact that he isn't just transported into the game upon dying but actually stays alive and spends time irl is something most stories of this type don't do.
The writing is vivid and cinematic, and the worldbuilding, especially the cores and the mysterious [Bargain], adds real depth and intrigue.
I also really like and dislike the characters. I like them in the sense that their personalities are most of the time pretty fun, and the author manages to inject some humour here and there.
I also dislike them because characters like the elf and Sri tend to help Cian without much reason, and key events resolve a little too easily, as if the world bends to favor him. This softens the impact of his otherwise compelling struggle.
Still, the core premise is excellent, and the contrast between Cian’s frail reality and his virtual freedom makes for a gripping read. With more natural character motivations and a bit more resistance to Cian’s progress, the story could become something truly special. - serenexorangeRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall Score: 4.5. There are complex characters with complex motivations, and the only reason it isn't a 5 is because the companion character is a little slow to start, but does fill out.
Style Score: 5. It felt awesome to read high fantasy in a cyberscape.
Grammar Score: 5. No discernable issues with grammar or spelling.
Story Score: 5. Such an awesome, impactful, and emotional story. The main character is complex and you want to know more about him. You can tell that he carries the weight of his former life into every decision he makes, which makes it a very fun read.
Character Score: 4.5. All the characters are distinct, cool, and take actions that make sense. The progression and development of characters other than the main character are a little slow, but still very much enjoyable.
Overall, I highly recommend this read if you like fantasy, adventure, and complex characters. You won't be disappointed. I very much enjoyed the complex and grief-loaded decision to
shed his mortal coil for the sake of a better quality of life. You can tell with the writing that he felt disgusted about his normal life, but that disgust was covering up his sadness at his circumstances.
