Description
In a world where mana—the essence that sustains the spirits—slowly fades, the beings Kai once called family are dying. Raised among them in the village of Vander, Kai is determined to uncover the cause of their decline. But as he ventures into a world he barely understands, he begins to question his place within it.
As the mana fades, a primordial evil—long sealed beneath the land—begins to stir. Kai must decide whether to save the spirits he loves or preserve humanity’s way of life, even if it means the world will be consumed by darkness once more.

- AiobaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As both the editor of this book and the author’s brother, I’ve had the unique experience of watching this story grow from an idea into something real. I’ve been there through the early drafts, late-night brainstorms, rewrites, and breakthroughs—and I can honestly say, my brother has poured everything he has into this book.
This story has been a long time coming. He’s spent countless hours shaping the world, building characters, and fine-tuning every scene until it felt just right. It hasn’t always been easy, but his passion and determination never wavered. Watching him bring it all together has been inspiring.
I’ve read this book more times than I can count (editor perks), and every time, I still find something to appreciate. It’s full of heart, creativity, and care—and I’m genuinely proud of what he’s accomplished.
If you’re considering giving it a read, I hope you do. It’s more than just a book to him, and I think that comes through on every page. Whether you’re here to support a new author or just looking for a fresh story to dive into, this one’s worth your time.
I've read it more times than I can count, and I still enjoy it. I hope that you will too. - Criminal GingersnapRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A disclaimer: this author left a review on my book a few months ago. He never asked me to return the favor. This isn’t a planned swap.
Overall: This was a fun read. I’m enjoying the world, its themes, and its people. I look forward to reading more once it exits hiatus.
Be forewarned: It does get morbid and graphic at points, sometimes rather suddenly, but it doesn’t stray into territory that would typically come with a content warning.
Style: Good prose with an occasional poetic flourish. I was impressed by a turn-of-phrase on several occasions and never struggled to understand the author’s intent.
I’ll also note here that I enjoyed the excerpts at the top of each chapter. Most of them added useful context for recent or upcoming events in the story, and the rest provided fun world building.
Story: Very engaging. I’m enjoying the ride and am invested enough in the mysteries to theorize about their answers. I think I can tell where things are headed by now, but the author threw some curveballs in earlier chapters, so we’ll see.
The stakes feel grounded (by fantasy standards) and meaningful. Events make sense in the context of the world.
Character: By the (current) last chapter, I loved all of them. Some characters took a while to grow on me, but I liked the initial protagonist immediately and came around on everyone else as I got to know them better.
Actions remain consistent with established personalities, motivations, and development. Characters who seem relatively flat at first glance get deeper.
Grammar: I found a couple minor errors every few chapters, mostly related to punctuation. Sentences are well-structured with clear meanings otherwise. - DRAGONdoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love this story! The characters are really interesting. The setting is unique. The writing is phenomenal. I've read every chapter so far and genuinely have enjoyed every moment of it. Chapter 12 has so far been my favorite. I can tell there is a lot of symbolism in your writing. Please keep going, I need to see where this story ends up!
- Robyn L WardRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have had the pleasure of reading this book as it has been written. I am the writer's mother and this story has been told over and over in the house. Now, the adventures have come to life with such vivid imagination that keep you turning the pages. Many hours have been put into the writing, editing and development of the book and look forward to having others share in this great adventure.
- TigerWildRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really enjoying the story so far. The writing is excellent. You can tell each word has been carefully considered. The world building and story are handled thoughtfully, but a lot of care has also gone into the way the story is told. The pacing works well and gives the plot room to breathe while also leaving me wanting more. Very excited to have found this one early.
- KRSW_Nax3Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5End of Mana is a beautifully written, slow-burn fantasy that clearly comes from a place of care and passion. The prose is vivid and immersive, and the worldbuilding is one of its biggest strengths — the details about mana, the spirits, and the magic-technology blend make the setting feel alive and unique. The main character is easy to root for and the themes of loss and change come through strongly.
That said, the pacing can feel a bit too slow at times. Some early chapters spend a lot of time on atmosphere and exposition, which is great for mood but sometimes makes it harder to stay engaged if you’re looking for faster plot development. Readers who enjoy thoughtful, descriptive stories will likely love it, but those hoping for immediate action may need patience to appreciate the build-up.
Overall, it’s a promising and heartfelt story that stands out for its craftsmanship and originality. Looking forward to seeing where it goes next!
