- AmasoraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This series is great! Grammatically & syntactically clean, and with depth to every important character. (Update: recent chapters have needed some help with their sentence structure but the worldbuilding and expression are still more than enough to make up for it)
The protagonist suffers setbacks in many places it would seem natural for her to succeed, breaking the standard regimen of "OP MC succeeds at everything and thrashes everyone". Yet, she constantly makes continuous and meaningful advancements; her success is gradual and earned instead of being the machinations of the dreaded Plot Armor. Moreover, her power gain is gentle yet noticable, balanced just right such that she stays in the realm of genius without feeling Mary Sue.
Fun, engaging, and well balanced. Highly reccomend.
Update: Saw another commenter mention the overuse of run-on sentences, to which I have to agree: this series has grammatically incorrect / stylistically questionable sentences quite frequently (Mostly with punctuation related problems). However, these mistakes never seem to be so problematic that they hinder the reader from understanding the story.
While this would, in my opinion, be a problem of sufficient severity that professional publication would need a fair amount of proofreading, by webnovel standards the language standards seem sufficient.
The series would still benefit from a proofreader though. (Would happily volunteer (I should join the author's patreon)) - Ar548Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Emberacale Alchemist is the adventure of a young kobold with a voracious appetite for knowledge. The MC is extra special in the way many bad heroes are - growth comes easy and those around her want her to succeed - but this is counterbalanced by the fact that she is constantly breaking the mold and pushing to better herself and her clan. She genuinely has to struggle to meet the high bar she has set for her self encounters real issues in achieving her goals in a way that is rare to see in Mary Sue stories.
Beyond the story, itself the world building is fantastic. There is plenty of detail that supports the story without sidetracking too much. Some of it is a little tropey, but the tropes are used well enough and interspersed with enough different content that they are still fun.
The fiction has a graceful combination of action/adventure and slice of life spread out over a slow burn story. There are fairly few grammar issues beyond a lot of run on sentences and if you're not reading the second the chapter releases they are corrected relatively quickly as people make edit suggestions.
Book 1 just finished at the time of writing this, and I am very excited to see where book 2 takes the story. - GrumpyCRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Emberscale Alchemist has been a fantastic journey to read so far. The kobold main character has been a refreshing experience to read about. The host of other characters have been interesting and enjoyable to learn about as the story continues to progress. The interactions between the characters so far have had a very natural feel to it as I’m sitting there listening to them chatter.
The writing and story so far has kept my interest piqued and kept me coming back for more. I look forward to learning even more about the world and lore in this world setting as it progresses. The flow of the story so far has been enjoyable and hasn’t slowed for me yet. It’s plot points are intriguing and captivating and keep me wondering what’s going to happen next.
Between the well written sentences and paragraphs. There has not been any time where I’ve had to wonder if I’ve read something right or had to go back and reread to clarify. The structure to each chapter has been well rounded, and it never feels like it’s too long or too short.
In short, I would highly recommend this author for their well written and interesting story so far. I look forward to more of this and whatever they write next. - Bailejo81Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of the better litrpgs I've read recently. MC doesn't seem overpowered and the kobold civilization is well developed. The grammar is solid, the updates are regular, the chapters aren't super short. All in all well worth checking out, adding to the list to read or following. Word counts suck
- FarGarFoneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has great world building. The kobold society feels like a real thing and not just a prop piece for MC to explore. It is different enough from human society to make it interesting.
I like the slower pace at the start. It gives us time to get to know our heroine. Kori is a well written character. High in intelligence but low in wisdom. She both surprises her elders with cunning but also makes the kind of blunders, you would expect from a teenager without experience.
If you are looking for a slower paced non-human story, I recommend it. - GenericCaliburGuyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is one of those books that enthralled me, where I just wanted to keep reading it and needing to know what happened next, which is a rare occurrence for me. It does LitRPG in a way that I actually kind of like, which is rare. I've always enjoyed the concept of LitRPG, but rarely the actual execution, this one does it in a way that I enjoy the execution. This book is strange, because it feels too slow in it's pacing while also being just right. If you're looking for something action heavy, this definitely isn't your book, but if you're looking for a more laid back book that just follows and interesting character and a fair amount of world building, yeah, you'd probably vibe with this book too.
- Blank4455Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have been loving everything about Emberscale Alchemist since the prologue. It hits all the LitRPG tropes you know and love while avoiding many of its pitfalls by having a slowish power growth, real limitations to the MCs ability, and multifaceted characters. The story is certainly slice of life, but contrasts it with well placed drama and intrigue to keep me engaged. Although we are certainly still in the opening arcs, I have confidence that the world will open up for Kori and her clan and am very excited to follow them wherever they go.
- CampaspeLlamicornRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a very enjoyable read. I relate very strongly to Kori, as i think any ADHD reader would. I also relate to her as a parent - I don't often enjoy stories starting with the birth of the protagonist, but this is really well done.
This being set amongst Kobolds makes it feel really fresh. Yay non hunman cast! And Kori's curious nature makes all the exposition needed for the setting flow really well. - HoratioBlanchetteRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Absolutely loving this series. Previous to this story I never paid much mind to Kobolds as a race, and this has thoroughly convinced me that I have been missing out on one of the more intriguing races to be found.
The narrative is captivating and rich, weaving a clear picture of a unique and complex culture, including history that boarders on theology. An interesting read that seems to be setting the groundwork for a complex interesting story. I look forward to seeing where this story goes.
