Echoes of the Outcast (Cultivation Apocalypse || Monster Hunting)

Description
Blake always thought cultivators were insane. Ten years ago, the Integration destroyed the Earth, and an army of cultivators subjugated what remained. It wasn’t the apocalypse he imagined. During the Integration, he was one of many unlucky souls on a merge border. His body blended with a demonic monster from another world, ending any potential he had as a cultivator. Shunned by the cultivators and the old world alike, he’s stuck working dead-end jobs for uncaring managers—only these managers can split mountains in half with a swipe of their axe. Waiting around for another apocalypse to fix everything? Hoping a legendary technique just falls in his lap? Blake’s tired of waiting. He bets everything on a magic ring and steals it from beneath the cultivators’ noses. It contains the soul of an ancient warrior. And as it turns out, cultivation has changed: it has become boring, rigid, and weak. Cultivators only use mana now, weakening themselves, and they’ve forgotten every legend they grew up with. But there are different vital energies out there than just mana. Now, Blake has everything he needs to shake the foundations of the universe. Posting schedule: 1 chapter per day at 12:00pm MST/MDT (except Saturdays). I might drop down later if I can’t maintain it. Each chapter is about 2k words. - Western cultivation (no system) - Staff + lightning based MC - MC enjoys fighting and is highly motivated, but isn’t a murderhobo - Not a parody, but the MC isn’t going to fit in with the ways of cultivators - 3rd person PoV, 99% MC PoV - Medium-paced power growth - Massive scope and a detailed world - No harem, maybe light romance - Wholesome ring grandpa + pet water deer

- Blake HarryRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0interesting and iron-willed mc with an understandable personality, with good world building (although so far its not been the focus) and amusing characters that have distinct quirks and arent all based on common cultivation tropes, definitely worth reading if you are interested in a somewhat unique cultivation system with a funny talking knight stuck in a ring
- LonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I think what I like the most in this story is that the MC is discovering himself, he is passing through tribulations and ordeals but always thinking about where he fits in this now changed world.
The cultivation stages are quite methodical and you can see that a lot of care and planning were put in making them one organic and cohesive. The MC does become stronger not because of a mythical grade technique, but because of the knowledge of what is now forgotten.
The story has a rich background to the lore of the world and as is common in most cultivation stories, the mc sadly is too weak to receive the massive lore dump. We have clues here and there while he is on his journey.
The style of the author’s writing is direct and easy to follow all that is happening around the mc.
The grammar has some minor mistakes that are swiftly corrected as soon as you point them out, and they have zero impact in understanding what is happening.
Now, the mc is quite likeable. I like to root for him as I am reading, not just because he is the mc. But because he has a charisma to him, he is not that arrogant young master but he does have a spine with his own pride and values he strives for, but at the same time he is humble to know he needs another’s help so he can be stronger and better.
I think the bigger ”shock” to me was the whole lore of the cultivators and now master of the world is what nails the coffin that says “this is a western cultivation story”, saying more would be a spoiler, even if a minor one, so all I can say is to try it!
The story has a nice pace where the MC doesn't spend 10~20 chapters with no progress in his power but at the same time he doesn't trip in a power up at the end of every chapter.
So yeah, give it a read! - tellaris3Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0A solid western cultivation book so far, and it’s been pretty entertaining, and features one of my favorite tropes. A MC who has a ‘weakness’ that can become a strength under the right teacher. He becomes overpowered for his level pretty quickly, but in a way that feels right for the world.
Style: Solid writing and a cohesive style. I didn’t have any moments of confusion and it flowed nicely.
Story: So far so good. I’m curious where the plot is going to go, and there’s a bit of direction, but it’s a pretty normal start to a cultivation story. The world is the most interesting part to me, and it does some very interesting things with the standard system apocalypse.
Grammar: A few minor errors but nothing that makes it unreadable.
Character: Probably the stand-out element for me. The main character is likeable, but his interactions with the others feel the most interesting. They have a rich history, and it feels like they have a life off the page. They’ve got good voices and behave MOSTLY like real people. There are a few cultivation tropes where, so far, the bad guys have been a bit one dimensional.
The worldbuilding is also very good. It feels like there’s so much going on behind the scenes and that there’s a real society here. It’s not exactly ancient China, and just read the story description for a bit of flavour, but there’s plenty of cultivation woven in (and I get the sense that there is still a faction of standard cultivators somewhere in this universe).
Overall, it’s a good story so far. Recommended.
