Description

>>>Books 1, ,2 and 3 are available on Kindle (including Unlimited), Audible, and in paperback!<<<

I guess I'm a dragon now. That's just the kind of thing that can screw up a girl's whole month.

I took a bad fall while exploring a cave. When I got out, I found the world, and myself, changed beyond recognition. We didn't have any monsters back home, unless you count the spiders. And claws and teeth, wings and a tail, horns and scales, all those are going to take some getting used to. So is hunting for my meals and fighting to survive.

But I won't give up. I'm going to fight to live, and to stay myself. The one I share my mind with, she knows just what to do, and as long as I don't go along with her worst impulses we should be fine. And my new body is strong. In fact, it's practically magical, since even a little dragon is a force of nature. I'll figure things out. I'll make a life for myself.

And I'll grow my hoard, of course. Greed is good. Gold is everything.

Draka is a story about making your own place in a world that fears you, for good reasons or bad. It's a story that often takes the long way around, and has been quite fairly described as "meandering" and "litRPG-lite." You can expect slow power progression based on greed and hoarding, a mix of adventure and slice-of-life, and a draconic main character who struggles to hang on to her humanity.

Average chapter length 3000 words.

Updates Mondays and Fridays, with occasional bonus chapters.

And because I've been asked: No humanoid form. The dragon stays a dragon. And that's a guarantee!

I have read a lot of "monster-reincarnation" stories, and one of the main things that makes these stories intriguing to me is the blending of human and inhuman elements. I was immensely happy to discover that this was executed very well, Draka was clearly a dragon but she had retained some human elements which influence the way she interacts with this new world. or at least that is what I thought in the beginning.
"Draka" is not just one being, you have been warned beforehand,  (more i shall not say)
Now the story progresses further it seems like the dragon and Human parts are still fully there, they seem to be almost like "subconsciousnesses" with us only getting the narrative view from the human subconsciousness. I do not know if this is correct but it seems like the two consciousnesses unknowingly act in unison with both thinking they are truly in control. In a way they are copilots that both see themselves as the ones who take action, in some cases however as we have seen one of the two can intervene to steer actions in a certain way with the other subconscious then seeing this as their copilot taking the wheel. This is something I haven't seen before and I love it!
a warning for everyone thouugh, do not consider "Draka" as one singular person, you will see what I mean soon if you read the book.
there are a lot of mysteries left to explore an amazing world with various species, monstrous creatures and interesting cultures.
the progression feels natural, the characters feel alive and realistic, and the grammar and quality are great, overall it is one of the, if not the best reincarnation story I have read so far.
the psychological aspect too is incredibly interesting, there is change and evolution throughout the story.
I am excited to see where the story will go.
May the gods of Writing be with you.

I love it. Its a very interesting little deep dive into draka's mind and personality and its played completely straight. The writing is good and appropriately visceral, and the characters are great. The story doesnt hesitate to go dark places (literally and figuratively), and manages its tone and mood well overall. I'm pleasantly surprised!

This story is quite interesting! I really like the different unexpected directions that it has taken and I am a big fan of Draka! The gamelit elements are understated (which I prefer) and the setting is intriguing enough with some hints of the world and the cultures within sprinkled throughout. The only complaint I have is that some of the dialogue can be a little “American casual” and that it doesnt do enough to expand the sense of a unique world / culture through the dialogue. This is a pretty minor gripe, though.
Overall, I think that this story is quite well written and that everyone should check it out!

This is a story about a human who dies and gets put into the body of a dragon. It is also a story about a Dragon who has a human stuck in her head. It is also an engaging and well-written fantasy adventure story.
    Grammar: no issues. 5/5
Style: The story is well-written. There are enough descriptions that i can paint a picture in my head of what the world looks like, it has a flow that makes it easy to read and hard to stop reading, and the pacing keeps things interesting without brushing things away too quickly. 5/5
Character: The main character is a very interesting person, mainly due to the fact that she's not quite one person but also not quite two. This is very well executed, and it is one of the main reasons why this is one of my favourite stories on royalroad right now. The side characters are also well characterized, proportionally to their importance to the story. I really like Herald and Mak. The start is a bit slow, but once you get into it and get to meet the main character's headmates, you'll find them quite interesting. 5/5
Story: Draka is not only about its characters. It also takes place in a world and it also has a plot. Both of these are well-executed. The worldbuilding is plausible and interesting, and even if it is nothing too special, it's good enough to merit five stars. The story is also very good, especially once the stuff I talked about in the character section comes into play. Sadly, the story does not always choose to focus on the most interesting things and gets a bit boring in the later parts of the valkin arc. Still, it's very good on the whole and everything past the big betrayal has been great. 5/5
Thanks a lot to the author for writing this story and putting it on the internet for free.
Addendum: One thing I really appreciate about this story is the pacing. Other long stories tend to drag on after a while, but here, the plot is slow enough to always leave a lot to look forward to while still drawing you in.

It's a little sad that it's stubbed but honestly it's a very good book. Fun protagonist, solid writing and world building, interesting premise and characters and unobtrusive LitRPG elements. The fact that we don't get numbers and stats shoved in our faces is actually one of my favorite parts. Sad that it's stubbed but definitely worth borrowing on KU or buying

I got here while bingeing dragon stories, via a recommendation in The Shining Wyrm. This is definitely a cut above the average for royal road in quality, and something i would recommend.
It is an adventure story focused on a fairly small band of characters, so far more focused on local events and politics in a city-state, and the interactions of the main characters, than traveling or large scale events. The setting is pre-industrial, but not derivative of any particular time or place on earth, seeming more central or south asian than anything else, although little of the human culture has been explored so far.
There are extremely light LitRPG elements, that could be considered to be a more standard magic system. No levels, stats, and boxes anywhere.
Style, or prose: fairly straightforward, easy to read, and free of the jarring, unintentionally ambiguous, or painfully repetitive prose found in a lot of amateur works. It is of the quality i would expect in a published work, if not equal to the prose of some exceptional novels.
Grammar: generally good and easily understood. Errors are very infrequent and the author seems to do some editing and correction.
Story: seems to be somewhat meandering in a natural sort of manner, with no clear objective, although there are hints it is leading into larger scale events and connections. So far nothing seems strange or artificial about it, although the variable pacing may not appeal to people who think there are strict rules for such that must be followed, or expecting the pacing of a thriller.
Characters: So far the cast of characters is fairly small, and seems to be focusing on fleshing out their backstories, relations, and growth. The main cast of characters have some fairly major flaws and quirks, to the point of them being their own plot elements, and unlikely to be swiftly resolved and forgotten in tropey protagonist fashion. Individuals are unique and more than a personality trait or plot device stapled to a name, and minor

Ok so I found this series I think around 2 months ago, and I haven't been able to stop reading it since (well until now, I'm fully caught up :cri:). I didn't even make an RR account until I finished because whenever I would open the tab I'd just bury my face in the screen. The way the story is written, the choice of words perfectly tailored to amplify the reading experience, it's great. The reason for the half star deduction from "grammar" is just because of the occasional typo really, if that is at all a fair reason. I'm new to RR and hence the rating system, so idrk. The story itself, it is put together really solid and seems to be planned well in advance, with the amount of times things were said earlier and brought back up later. There is always one of those operations going on in the background, which makes the story all the more endearing. Always something happening, though when it is needed, that thing is calm. Good balance of everything imo, got some action, magic ooo mystery magic, and even some romance sprinkled about. The main character being a dragon was what originally pulled me into the series, because I was looking for good books with dragon mcs. This perfectly encapsulated what I wanted for an mc. The choice to not just give the mc a human-transform ability was great, because more dragon yippee! I like dragons so yeah. Other than the mc though, the other characters all seem to be pretty well developed, with there even being distinct ways of speaking from each. That's another thing- how different languages are depicted within this fantasy world. The general style of speech is unique for each one, and it is executed well consistently. Rarely does there seem to have been a day where the author was slacking off writing. But yeah, I think it's a great read and I highly recommend giving it a go!

This is a particularly well-executed take on the isekai'd into a monster premise. Too many stories use too young of character and they end up either overwhelmed by their instincts or spiral into some sort of self-loathing or depression.  The protagonist here has a real, mature struggle with it, but it's not overdone.
Overall, the story is primarily one of discovery, both of the local area and of her own capabilities.  There is a gamelit/litRPG aspect, but it's very, very light, and if you just replaced it with an angel occasionally descending to give a minor blessing, it's about equivalent.

The work is a great, gripping, if somewhat meandering tale. A bit more on the aimless slice-of-life side for me, but it's compelling enough to more than make up for it. The narrative is believable, the grammar faultless, and the character both vibrant and consistent. I'd take off another fraction of a star for naming a major female character Herald, which is minorly confusing when returning after a pause in reading, but again, the quality more than makes up for it. Read this.

Hello, I have much to say. To be honest, I really shouldn't be writing this review, because I think I owe it to myself to see this story through in its entirety before I leave a review, but the recent events have left such a scar in my heart, that I need to write them down, I need to document what this story has done to me. So that when I come to finish this job, when I finish everything ready and available, that I may remember how this story cracked open my ribs and impaled my heart as I attempt to put into words what this is.
I will not constrain myself to simply going over the different categories, this is an entirely different beast. I will not joke, jest, jape, or any other synonym for entertaining that starts with a j.
The style, is fine-better than fine, the unreliable narrator is chefs kiss, grammar, no issue. The story can be a little bit slow paced at times, but serves well, boom, that's all we need. Now, I speak.
You will bleed for reading this, understand this; you may think yourself ready, prepared to weather the coming storm. You may have read other reviews, thought that "oh surely it couldn't be that bad-"no, I assure you, I thought the same.
You may envision something horrid at my words, but you do not see it correctly no matter what you think. You will not be ready, you will never be ready. No matter what you do think see or hear, unless you're an unfeeling monster or a man with the reading comprehension of an infant, you will be crushed without fail.
that is all I have to say without divulging any further about this work.
    Obviously, spoilers.
Spending an entire book, ingratiating us, building these ties and relationships, to feign itself as a purely heartwarming tale of forging bonds despite one's differences, is evil.
I say that in a good way, but it's evil. It's so unbelievably evil.
    Because, it works so well.
Every review you see here, that claims the story fell off after the "event" around chapter fifty, that is not somebody finding fault with
