Description
>>>Books 1, ,2 and 3 are available on Kindle (including Unlimited), Audible, and in paperback!<<<
I guess I'm a dragon now. That's just the kind of thing that can screw up a girl's whole month.
I took a bad fall while exploring a cave. When I got out, I found the world, and myself, changed beyond recognition. We didn't have any monsters back home, unless you count the spiders. And claws and teeth, wings and a tail, horns and scales, all those are going to take some getting used to. So is hunting for my meals and fighting to survive.
But I won't give up. I'm going to fight to live, and to stay myself. The one I share my mind with, she knows just what to do, and as long as I don't go along with her worst impulses we should be fine. And my new body is strong. In fact, it's practically magical, since even a little dragon is a force of nature. I'll figure things out. I'll make a life for myself.
And I'll grow my hoard, of course. Greed is good. Gold is everything.
Draka is a story about making your own place in a world that fears you, for good reasons or bad. It's a story that often takes the long way around, and has been quite fairly described as "meandering" and "litRPG-lite." You can expect slow power progression based on greed and hoarding, a mix of adventure and slice-of-life, and a draconic main character who struggles to hang on to her humanity.
Average chapter length 3000 words.
Updates Mondays and Fridays, with occasional bonus chapters.
And because I've been asked: No humanoid form. The dragon stays a dragon. And that's a guarantee!

- LorixDRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Draka takes the typical, and awesome, premise of reincarnating into a dragon and uses it to explore many facets of the human experience with wonderful writing that goes far above what you expect on Royal Road. It is a story of magic, adventure and found family. Of trying to be a person you can be proud of or just a person at all.
In this story our main character Draka sees herself deathly afraid of being alone, sitting on top of a hoard hidden in some far away mountain. To remedy this, she attempts to approach humanity in hopes of coexisting and perhaps making friends.
Of course things aren’t so simple. Draka is in fact a dragon, a being with potential for unbelievable power. This puts her in a place where she is othered. When she is not immediately rejected as a tyrannical monster, all her interactions are plagued by second intentions and fear.
Thankfully, Draka manages to befriend a family of immigrants and build a small community of mutual understanding in this world that rejects them. Or does she?
To be a dragon is also to have impossible to reject instincts and the magic to turn humans into your thralls. Unlike similar stories, Draka will find herself using these abilities sometimes by necessity, sometimes by accident and sometimes just because she can.
This story will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions where you will root for the lovely roster of main characters as they try to be better than what the world expects of them. You will curse the world that doesn’t give them a chance, admonish them when they betray your best expectations of them and you will feel warm and welcome in the brief moments where they can relax and enjoy each other's company. - GenericCaliburGuyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is one of those series that I just can't get enough of. According to the author they enjoy writing stories about people who aren't quite typical, whilst I don't really get that with their other book on Amazon, Splinter Angel, I definitely get it with this one. I love Draka as a character, she is very intriguing to watch and I just enjoy seeing her interact with people. I'd love to rant on about it, but then this review would basically just be spoilers. I initially found this book on Kindle, and found Royal Road existed entirely because of this author. I like the world, I like the progression concept, all in all I just like the book. Whilst it's definitely not for everyone, if you want to read an interesting book with a dragon as the main protagonist, then this is definitely one worth checking out.
- Bookworm readerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I just adore this story. Draka is my favorite ongoing story on RR.
First and foremost I love the characters- all of them. It's their personalities, interactions and emotions that are the heart of this story. Plus what other characters think, feel and react to how other characters and how that changes due to events and actions. Those interactions are often not positive. They can be deeply troubling as interpersonal dynamics change for the better or worse. The characters change and develop while each feels like a person rather than trope. The MC has lots of flaws while still being very likeable. This is a major part of the narrative conflict. Not the only one, but an important one.
The world building is terrific. It feels like a small corner of a larger world. Where there are things happening outside that influence the story, or events in the story that influence outside. It does that naturally, without dumping exposition. There's enough unknowns, both major and minor, to make the world feel lived in and that the characters can influence and be in turn influenced by.
The pacing is exactly what I like to see. There's sometimes action. There's sometimes contemplation of previous actions and there's contemplation and talking it out with others about how they feel about those actions. It is a wonderful mix. It avoids getting bogged down where nothing happens nor go-go-go escalation where lots of things happen, but doesn't actually mean anything. The peaceful sections are about dealing with the consequences of the action. So there's still plenty of narrative conflict to chew on.
The grammar is close enough to flawless. I've probably noticed less than 5 errors in 150 chapters. I don't count errors that are corrected with 24hrs of release as you can always delay reading by a day and get exactly the same release schedule (2 chapters a week). Even errors that are within that time are minor. The editing is top notch.
There are some controversial things that happen in the middle - KarasaphRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Review at chapter 102, update below:
This series is pure entertainment. Just someone remembering being a human gaining concoiusness as a dragon. The interesting part is how the human and the dragon interact with that one body. The story always reveals some new aspects.
The world is vivid and while looking rather generic, it has lots of fantastic elements and some mysteries that aren't relevant though. The story is very much character and relationship driven. In the end it's an adventure of growth, adjacent to a LitRPG. The first 100 Chapters are almost 100 days as the life as a dragon and it's full of adventure.
People live their lives and Draka just happens to be there. Life continues even without her, the characters besides Draka all have their own personalities, goals and motivations. Draka isn't liked immidiatly and she needs to use a lot of different approaches for different problems. Nothing comes easy, she is well challenged and not invincible. How often did she get close to death? A few times and even now there are enemies she can't fight on her own. A well challenged protagonist with even greater antagonists.
It's very much about growth and how the dragon grows her hoard. The mechanics are well thought out, influence the world A LOT while keeping so many mysteries as we only get to see the world out of Draka's perspective. Considering the powers of Draka, she is among the more unique dragons I have read about. No fire breath, stealth focus and not too huge in size.
Style: The writing, descriptions, pacing and focus of the story are perfect. The author does a great work in delivering a great story that is written exceptionally well. Injuries are still relevant when not healed and not forgotten, things don't come easy and even in a world of magic there isn't a 'one solution fits all' reason. People can do different things and everything is well thought off. One of the best writing I have seen.
Story: Like I said. A story about growth, stealth and human-dragon - BoptodatopRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hello, I have much to say. To be honest, I really shouldn't be writing this review, because I think I owe it to myself to see this story through in its entirety before I leave a review, but the recent events have left such a scar in my heart, that I need to write them down, I need to document what this story has done to me. So that when I come to finish this job, when I finish everything ready and available, that I may remember how this story cracked open my ribs and impaled my heart as I attempt to put into words what this is.
I will not constrain myself to simply going over the different categories, this is an entirely different beast. I will not joke, jest, jape, or any other synonym for entertaining that starts with a j.
The style, is fine-better than fine, the unreliable narrator is chefs kiss, grammar, no issue. The story can be a little bit slow paced at times, but serves well, boom, that's all we need. Now, I speak.
You will bleed for reading this, understand this; you may think yourself ready, prepared to weather the coming storm. You may have read other reviews, thought that "oh surely it couldn't be that bad-"no, I assure you, I thought the same.
You may envision something horrid at my words, but you do not see it correctly no matter what you think. You will not be ready, you will never be ready. No matter what you do think see or hear, unless you're an unfeeling monster or a man with the reading comprehension of an infant, you will be crushed without fail.
that is all I have to say without divulging any further about this work.
Obviously, spoilers.
Spending an entire book, ingratiating us, building these ties and relationships, to feign itself as a purely heartwarming tale of forging bonds despite one's differences, is evil.
I say that in a good way, but it's evil. It's so unbelievably evil.
Because, it works so well.
Every review you see here, that claims the story fell off after the "event" around chapter fifty, that is not somebody finding fault with - BistreBlackRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Draka follows a winding path of intrigue, relationships and action, with weight put on all three to achieve a cohesive and dramatic whole. I love the worldbuilding, the protagonist is fantastic and the supporting cast are all well-rounded personas with their own agendas. One of my favorite things in fantasy fiction is when the protagonist is allowed to make bad judgement calls and act on the information in front of them or to their own emotional logic, and Draka slams that one home with style. Thankyou so much for the wonderful read. 5/5!
- DeathwingminionRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a unique dragon story with dragon mc but with a twist of human and a dragon soul inhabiting togather. So far it has Great worldbuliding, with lovely and enjoyable characters, my favourites are probably the the dragon and the human girl inside the dragon i really like how they interact with eachother and its not just human centertic, there other good characters too and with one girl looking to be a future minion, I mean what kind of dragon doesn't like minion . I really like the magic system and how the adventures and monsters advance and interract with it, this has a lot of potential and i really like to see more about the world. Also i would like that she and dragon to remain the way they are now, because too much humans centertic things will ruins the story for me, Y'know the charm of story like this are the non-human part of it.
Edit: it continue to be better, I really love the mother addition to the book, and would love to see more dragons characters like her. For me they are the most interesting part.
Anyway, Overall It's a great story, Highly recommended to any dragon lovers. - BrilliantDawnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love it. Its a very interesting little deep dive into draka's mind and personality and its played completely straight. The writing is good and appropriately visceral, and the characters are great. The story doesnt hesitate to go dark places (literally and figuratively), and manages its tone and mood well overall. I'm pleasantly surprised!
- BumpRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is quite interesting! I really like the different unexpected directions that it has taken and I am a big fan of Draka! The gamelit elements are understated (which I prefer) and the setting is intriguing enough with some hints of the world and the cultures within sprinkled throughout. The only complaint I have is that some of the dialogue can be a little “American casual” and that it doesnt do enough to expand the sense of a unique world / culture through the dialogue. This is a pretty minor gripe, though.
Overall, I think that this story is quite well written and that everyone should check it out! - LostButNotForgottenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a story about a human who dies and gets put into the body of a dragon. It is also a story about a Dragon who has a human stuck in her head. It is also an engaging and well-written fantasy adventure story.
Grammar: no issues. 5/5
Style: The story is well-written. There are enough descriptions that i can paint a picture in my head of what the world looks like, it has a flow that makes it easy to read and hard to stop reading, and the pacing keeps things interesting without brushing things away too quickly. 5/5
Character: The main character is a very interesting person, mainly due to the fact that she's not quite one person but also not quite two. This is very well executed, and it is one of the main reasons why this is one of my favourite stories on royalroad right now. The side characters are also well characterized, proportionally to their importance to the story. I really like Herald and Mak. The start is a bit slow, but once you get into it and get to meet the main character's headmates, you'll find them quite interesting. 5/5
Story: Draka is not only about its characters. It also takes place in a world and it also has a plot. Both of these are well-executed. The worldbuilding is plausible and interesting, and even if it is nothing too special, it's good enough to merit five stars. The story is also very good, especially once the stuff I talked about in the character section comes into play. Sadly, the story does not always choose to focus on the most interesting things and gets a bit boring in the later parts of the valkin arc. Still, it's very good on the whole and everything past the big betrayal has been great. 5/5
Thanks a lot to the author for writing this story and putting it on the internet for free.
Addendum: One thing I really appreciate about this story is the pacing. Other long stories tend to drag on after a while, but here, the plot is slow enough to always leave a lot to look forward to while still drawing you in.
